Very cool! Thanks for sharing! Those John Player Specials are still about the best looking F1 cars ever.

If you're going in early August, the Thunder Over Michigan show at the Yankee Air Museum is a great event. This year it's the second weekend in August. Thunderbirds and a slew of warbirds, and they do a great job of keeping planes in the air most of the afternoon without interruption.

I was so psyched when AFV Club released a 48th Mig-28 though.

Ditto what Aaron said. Scuttlebutt at the AMPS Nationals was that the M1A2SEP kit was "definitely" being reissued and the M1A1AIM kit was "most likely" being reissued. Timeframe was "soon". I do know two friends who picked up one each at the show. I think they both paid about $50 each for them, that seems to be the non-ebay price as far as I can tell. Curtis

Looking for 1/48 modern Japanese weapons

I think either Skunkmodel or Hasegawa recently did a set of JSDAF weapons. -
A Black Walnut Urn for my mom's ashes...
Holeshot replied to terrysumner's topic in General Discussion
So sorry for your loss. I lost my mom last month to a brain tumor; it sucks. That is very nice work. I'm sure your mom would be proud to have her ashes kept in such a beautiful box built by her son. Curtis -
Extreme weathering, no paint, just rust and streaked mud
Holeshot replied to USMC6094's topic in Armor General Discussion
PLENTY of resources for what you're looking to do. A few to start: Check out MIG Productions and AK Interactive, both have similar products, books, and instructional DVDs to get you going. (They backstory is that the guy that started MIG lost the company in a divorce and took his knowledge and connections and started AK, so AK probably has the more cutting-edge stuff at this point.) I like the Track-Link forums for tank stuff, but there are plenty of others who hang out on Missing Lynx, Planet Armor, or Armorama. There's a Weathering magazine out that's on its 4th or 5th issue now--it's av -
Great work. It's such as shame that those 1/9th bikes from Protar and now Italeri are so toy-like. In such a large scale, they could be amazing kits OOB if the manufacturer put any effort into it.

One word: YOLO!!!! This will be my third trip out there from Jersey...11 hours each way. Always a great show with lots of rare warbirds. Where else are you going to see 6 Skyraiders?! A P-51, F-86, F-100 Heritage Flight? Have you seen the list? http://www.yankeeairmuseum.org/airshow/aircraft-list It sucks that MAM pulled the Me-262 and the Mosquito, but there's plenty of other rare worthwhile stuff to see. I'm looking forward to it. Curtis

Need help for keeping track of my model stash.
Holeshot replied to gunnermo's topic in General Discussion
Made up my own too using Google docs. It's easy to do, searchable, and--best--since it's on the cloud you can access it anywhere from your smartphone. -
It's tough to trust restorations, but here's two shots of the landing gear on Kermit Weeks' Tempest V currently being restored:

Here it is at El Paso Int'l in open storage... http://goo.gl/maps/xaETV

Wow sounds terrible. I'd have Pearl Harbor, the WWII in the Pacific museum, and the Punchbowl on the top of my list and go from there... Safe travels! Curtis

I *believe* you can use acrylics to tint them. You can also paint the underlying surface in shades of brown too. Good luck, Curtis

Two things you may not know about Simple Green
Holeshot replied to lesthegringo's topic in Tools 'n' Tips
Simple green makes a great wheel cleaner to get the brake dust off your rims too, but it DOES attack aluminum so make sure to rinse it off VERY well. -
Yes, it's the old Italeri kit. It's actually not bad for its age, but if you want a NICE Sherman, you can't beat the Tasca ones.

When does an AFV & crew become a dio?
Holeshot replied to The Loggie's topic in Armor General Discussion
The official AMPS criteria for Dioramas vs. Vignettes begins on pg. 13: http://www.amps-armor.org/ampssite/Documents/ContestRules/AMPS_Rules_for_Show_Judging_February_2013.pdf Basically, a diorama must tell a story, a vignette does not tell a story but incorporates the model, scenery, and perhaps figures. Nice work! Love the Spad!

I'm not sure. I honestly don't know too much about them other than the basics, and they look kinda cool. I build the toy-like Skif kit a while back and then the "early" Trumpeter kit when it first came out. The Trumpeter is kit is pretty nice and goes together nicely. For what it's worth, the early kit gives a choice of two muzzle breaks with correspondlingly different towing pintles. Curtis

I just use an oil paint (from the tubes) and turpenoid wash right over the Tamiya white, you'd be fine. A mix of paynes grey, lamp black, burnt umber, and raw sienna makes a nice grungy dirty grimy wash. Good luck, Curtis

Google Kermit Weeks' blog and/or look him up on Facebook. He's restoring to his to flight at his Fantasy of Flight museum/theme park, and I'm pretty sure he has posted some pics of it through the course of the restoration. They just did the first engine runs last week, I would think it will be airborne again soon. Cool plane! Good luck, Curtis

I'm glad I saw your post, I made room reservations the other day for the original June dates! I guess I'll have to update those! I guess they're hoping to give the sequestration thing more time to work out and hopefully still get the T-birds in town. Curtis

There's the rather ancient Revell CH-53 kit in 1/48th. Rather primitive by today's standards, but unless you wanted to try to backdate the Academy CH-53E's it's your only choice AFAIK. Curtis

Yup "Six Shooter" gun conversion. It replaced the Genie rocket with an M61 Gatling gun and ammo drum. Somebody needs to make one of those in resin (TWO MIKES ARE YOU LISTENING?), the only one I've ever seen was from Missing Link about 20 years ago. Curtis PS, I think that shot was from the book "Super Blue", which had quite a few other sweet pics in it too.
