  1. Hey Phantom, Post some pics if you can - would be cool to have a look see B) Regards, Cougar
  2. Hi Scott, Thank you for the heads up - Much appreciated B) Hi Jennings, Will do :) That's quite possible - In this link it mentions that the aircraft were sourced from Israel. Hi Terry, PM sent :) Regards, Cougar
  3. Hi Jennings, Would I have to modify the Airfix/ Heller kits wings? That's correct... I don't think the SAAF ever undertook an engine upgrade on their Boeing 707's. All the photographs I've come across show the JT3D engines. At any rate, the aircraft have been retired now so information should be easier to come by. I believe the configuration was one wing tip drogue pod per wing and one under the rear fuselage (Not sure where though). Do you have any information on the two types you mentioned above? I don't mind doing the scratchbuilding - If I'm successful it serves a dual purpose as
  4. Nice looking model, Nicolaas Regards, Cougar
  5. Hi Guys, This is becoming an interesting thread... I was not aware that there were so many differences between the two aircraft. Hi MiG31, My intention with the Boeing 707 is to build a Boeing 707-328C as used by the South African Air Force. If I was to guess I suppose this would make it the -300/ -400 wing? I'm busy collecting a couple of Kfirs (Italeri and Tamiya) which I plan on converting into Cheetah aircraft but instead of building each aircraft and then displaying it on a base I've been thinking of creating a diorama with a couple of Cheetah's plugged in to the Boeing 707, taking
  6. Hi Jonah, The problem I'm running into is that I cannot find any Boeing 707 kits on the market any more. I know Heller made one but I haven't seen one around for years. Regards, Cougar
  7. Hi Guys. Would it be possible to convert the Italeri 1/72 KC-135 Stratotanker into a Boeing 707 tanker as used by the RAAF, SAAF, IAF, etc? I know the engines are different and the fuselage on the Boeing 707 appears to be a little longer but what else, externally, would have to be done to the model to make it accurate? Please excuse me for posting this thread in the Jet Modeling forum as opposed to the Airliner Modeling forum but seeing as the subject is of a military nature I thought it would be better placed here. Regards, Cougar
  8. Hey Greg, From what I understand the hanger is no longer there and the area is now used to store shipping containers? Regards, Cougar
  9. Hi Alan, Thank you for the information RE the portholes on the bomb doors  I came across the photograph of the Congella Sunderlands that you posted a couple of days ago and I'm fairly certain that the photograph was taken post World War Two. Two of the aircraft in the photograph, 1702 RB-K and 1715 RB-P, were delivered in November 1945 (Source: Flying Boat by Ivan Spring). The Sunderland in the photograph I linked to above (1710 RB-D) was delivered in June 1945. From what I understand, 262 Squadron RAF was re-designated 35 Squadron SAAF on the 15th of February, 1945. Prior to that,
  10. Hi Alan, Thank you for the link to your build - Brilliant work My intention with the Sunderland is to build it into a post war Mk. V that was used by 35 Squadron of the South Africa Air Force during the 1950's. I'm also chucking the idea around in my head of creating a diorama of a section of the Congella Flying Boat Base that the Sunderlands flew from. I have a couple of questions RE your first post... Could the centre porthole not be filled in and the other two left or are their locations incorrect? Is it possible that some of the Mk. V's retained their upper turret or could these
  11. Hi Guys, Does anybody know if there is a conversion set that converts the Airfix 1/72 Short Sunderland III kit into a Short Sunderland Mk. V? Regards, Cougar
  12. Hi Guys, Does anybody have or know where I may find a set of line drawings for a Lycoming R-680 Engine? Any help would be greatly appreciated Regards, Cougar
  13. Hi Guys, Does anybody know what happened to the Brown B-2 replica that was built in the 1970's? Regards, Cougar
  14. Hey Doc, I'm not sure what's available in the States but I normally use the plastic card that you pick up at a hobby shop. I created my own vacuum forming machine a few years ago out of pine and masonite wood. It was just a simple wooden box with a perforated wooden top for the air to escape through and a hole to accept the pipe from the vacuum cleaner. A frame was built to clamp a sheet of plastic and then heated in the oven until the plastic started to sag. Once it sagged, you just quickly take it to the vacuum forming machine and drap it over the stage and vacuumed. Just an ordinary house
  15. Hey Eric, It would be interesting to run a poll on this site to see what percentage of the members here actually prefer Humbrol to the other brands of paint out there (Tamiya, MM, Vallejo, etc). Hey Neo, You can use your toolbox, what I usually do is leave the brush to lie horizontally on a piece of paper towel. Something I've also started doing recently is using a pair of interlocking tweezers and clamping the brush into the pair of tweezers while dangling the bristles into a solution of lacquer thinners for five minutes or so. You don't have to do this with smaller brushes but I've found
