  1. A buddy of mine was in missiles. A lot of the sentiment noted was true. Amazing how much of it is automated. One of the issues he noted was the career field itself where you can't jump between missiles and the space field (or another career enhancing field- he was able to do this.). Of course, there are a lot of military career fields like this (though not quite as important.).
  2. This will give you a good run down of the active shops: DFW Hobby Shops MAL is a neat interesting little shop. Wild Bill's is a neat place. Never know what you'll find there. As previously stated, Arlington Hobbytown has a good plastic selection. The Hobbytown in downtown Dallas (75 and Mockingbird I think) is pretty good as well for plastic.
  3. I was there late 80s with a 4/4 Cav down the road. In the Fulda Gap, the main unit covering that was 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment. Their 4th Squadron (Aviation) would probably be there first. They would have three scout troops (N, O, P) (6 OH-58s, 4 AH-1s) and two attack companies (Q, R) (I think it was 8 AH-1s). I think their airfield was in Fulda; same as their regimental HQ (but not 100% sure). I used to know the details, as our border camp linked up with theirs near Bad Kissigen. I wouldn't think the a/c would have too much marking. Maybe some black sabre outlines, but I'm guessing. Hop
  4. Berkut-Thanks. Told you I was ignorant of Migs. Wasn't aware of two different versions. Figured the Indian/new Russian ones were repops of the original (MIG-29K), so I guess my answer is Yes (both). Also should have stated up front, interested in 1/48.
  5. I've caught a bug for Russian Naval a/c. The SU-33 is fairly well covered (or will be with the new one coming out). I'm also curious to do a Naval Mig 29K (Russian) and SU-25UTG(?). I figured both will take a lot of work to convert, so which kit would be the best starting point and what needs to be done? Not afraid of a lot of conversion work. (Not a MIG guy so blissfully ignorant.) Any feedback appreciated.
  6. Ben, You're the man!!!! Thank you very much. Appreciate the reminder about the intakes, though I won't get that far over here. May be able to join the front fuselage and the exhaust keels after rescribing. Regards, George
  7. Trying to get some modeling done overseas. Have the ability to do a little more than rescribe like I thought. If anyone has the instructions and could scan them for me, I'd appreciate it. Thanks in advance.
  8. Since I tried to 'backdate' the Nimitz, I had to scratch/modify a couple of the a/c. The 1/1200 kit comes with F-18E/Fs, EA-6s, E-2s, and SH-60s. Not a full wing. I modified some to make the C-2, SH-3 and A-6. I also added some F-14 silhouettes in the hanger bays. I do need to go back and add the 'ramps' on the front of the cats for the cables.
  9. Here is one I did. I kept on adding good ideas from a simple one. Aircraft are 1/144 TU-22 (AMT) and F-14A (RoG). Ships are 1/1200 Nimitz (RoG) and 1/1250 Spruance (Hobbyboss). I had to scratch some of the little a/c as the Nimitz comes with modern. Added a helo to the Spruance as well. Fun little project.
  10. Updates on DFW stores: - Hobbytown (Walnut Hill/75- Dallas)- Just ran into this one by accident. Unlike the comment from above, I thought it was a decent store. Typical HT prices, though they have a good selection of kits. Looks like they do consignment as they have older kits (though may be a little higher priced). Good selection of tools and supplies. They have a "discount room" in the back right that may have a couple hidden gems. - Hobbytown (Colleyville)- Moved. No longer off Hall Johnson. They moved further south a few miles off of TX26(Grapevine Hwy) near Lowes. Same comments from
  11. Working on mine right now. I received some intell from someone who worked ahead on a small GB we're doing. Do it my the instructions, I don't think there is a new way to smooth the seam. Here is what I am doing. First attach the outer fuselage/intake piece. Next insert the intake and glue it in snuggly. You get a step, but just throw some putty and super glue (what I used) and sand away the seams. Still working but fairly smooth. Intake ramps should go on after the intakes are smooth and painted, then mate fuselage. As long as you measure and mate things snug, it should be no
  12. Not when I visited it when it was closing. I think I went there one time about a year before that and do not recall it either. That pic looks older.
  13. Chris, I just got back from there. Didn't know you were there. I have a feeling I know where you are. I will be back there in a month or so. We'll need to connect. Found the same as Chris. I couldn't find anything in Dubai either. My lesson learned is to bring some stuff to work on (scribing, etc).
  14. Tell the young man to go to the Inspector General. They will find out the right answer for him and help him read the fine print. I did that numerous times while I was an IG. Found several cases of recruiter fraud, as well as several cases of young folks not reading their contract. Promised and contract are two different things.
  15. Learn something new every day! Those pics your provided show the difference well. Thanks!
  16. Are we talking these? I thought all Ns had the IR sensor under the nose. Most of the ones I look at are from VF-201 and VF-202.
  17. Sweet build! You set the bar high!
  18. It is a little gem, though confusing and disorganized. I took a buddy over there. MALs is not too far away either. Neat little store. All local DFW stores are here. http://s362974870.onlinehome.us/forums/air/index.php?showtopic=102832
  19. Bump for a good cause! Gonzalo- PM sent. Need addy. Thanks,
  20. Had a large Bismark (think it was Lindburg). Filled the hull with gas, floated it in the river behind my house, dropped match "bombs" and had a viking funeral! Sunk it a few times!
  21. Here's a good pic of the topside:
  22. Even better were their aircraft hiding in piles of sand! Wish I could find my pics of those.
  23. Here's one from my travels...
  24. No, that is "trickle down economics" that is so villified by some.
