  1. Boy it's being a while with life and then covid life and then post covid life. Now with this life of increasing inflation and dwindling income, I still enjoy the hobby except at a much, much smaller scale, no pun intended, to the point of not being able to build any kits other than pre-covid paused builds. Stalled due to time and hacking them up to make them more accurate. Well more accurate in shape than in the number of rivets. 😄

I hope everyone is doing well and I just wanted to update on myself and say 'Hi and I haven't completely abandoned the hobby. Well not yet.". 😄

    Cheers everyone.

I saw this and thought of all the people hoarding toilet paper.

Yes, well put. Some of these idiots are trying to profiteer from this and are the ones buying all the toilet paper, sanitizing wipes and hand sanitizer. Thankfully some reseller sites are doing the right thing and blocking these these sellers for marking up prices by 500%.

Not to make light of the situation but it reminds me of that Seinfeld episode.

  3. Hello Everyone,

It's been awhile since I have been in the ARC forums but things in life seems to create a pausing effect in our hobby but I still enjoy an interest in aviation. I'm asking if someone could please help scan some missing pages in pdf at 150 dpi (seen this as minimum for a public library scanner) , I'd really appreciate it. The titles and missing pages are listed as follows:

    Monogram Close-Up 02, Junkers 288 (pages 1 & 2)

    Monogram Close-Up 13, Aichi M6A1 Seiran (pages 23, 24, 25 & 26)

The Horten Flying Wing in World War II - The History & Development of the Ho 229 by H.P. Dabrowski (pages 35 & 36)

    Thank you in advance

  4. I'm glad to see Tamyia producing some 1/48 scale modern tanks like the M1 Abrams and JSDF Type 10. But I'd also like to see them produce a 1/48 scale Leopard 2, British Challenger and other Cold War and recent modern tanks. Does anyone know if Tamyia has any new modern 1/48 scale tanks in the works? Tanks in advance.

  5. I watched the 50's movie "The Giant Claw" and an unlikey star of the picture, to me, is the Avro CF-100. There was other stock footages of the Northrop F-89 Scorpion and North America F-86 Sabre but seeing stock footage of a CF-100 in a movie was something I didn't expect.

  6. After seeing Shawn "phantom" Weiler's what-if Avro CF-105 Arrow Mk.2 on ARC's main page and with the recent search for the free flight models in Lake Ontario, I thought I'd pass on some other related news, albeit 3 - 4 months late.

There's a group in Alberta building a scaled down flyable Avro Arrow. Here's the link to the news article.

  7. Parts being snipped out of the sprue seems suspicious but if the sprues are still in the clear plastic bag with the factory sealing then that would be different story. Clear sprues missing from kits do happen. It seems Monogram's 1/48 F-101B is notorious for it because I too had the same problem but I bought mine as a factory sealed NOS (New Old Stock) from a shop that was closing when the owner decided to retire.

At the time the Monogram name was longer and it was just Revell. Luckily, Revell reissued the 48 scale Voodoo and with 2 emails, 1 to CS and another to Operations as per CS reply email, I got the clear sprue in two weeks. Revell provides great service and it only costed me time and scans of the receipt and instructions. I have been bitten too where I never got a reply like when I bought a factory sealed NOS 1/72 scale ESCI F-5A Freedom fighter that was missing the sprue with the nose section.

Not to make light if the subject but is it this guy who's been returning Trumpeter kits without the clear parts? These are the only characters I know who'd be so low to do such a thing and the ruin the hobby for the rest of us.

  8. Utterly sickening. That guy is a low life who can't figure out that when he steals he is not only stealing from the shopowner and his family who depends on his income to put food on the table but he's stealing from the rest of us. I'm quite friendly with the few local hobbyshop owners in my area and am alway appauled to hear about thieft at their stores. When this happens you'll see prices increase to cover cost of either or both more staff or more security.

The worst case scenario is the closure of the shop which is what happened to one shop owner, a good friend of mine, who was kind enough to sell loyal customers items on consignment. He allowed me to do this so I could build up funds to get some of the latest tooled stuff that he 'd order in for me. It was more digusting when these five finger discount shoppers even stole consigment items, even my stuff, which started happening too many times. He finally stopped selling kits after some of his resin stuff where going missing. I sympathized with him but could understand why he eventually turned the store space over to his wife who turned it into a women's clothing store.

I hope that the kit that thief stole is missing an important sprue or a brick the size of that kit fall on his head. Boy, I hope some bad karma is going to kick him in the arse for it.

BTW, is that the shop owner or just other customers who were in the isle with him moments before he moved the kit to the stack just before the enterance / exit?

  9. I think Justin PM Bieber, oh yeah it's Trudeau, should just get Defence Minister Harjit Sajjan to dust off the remaining CF-116's and put them back in service so that Justin can use the money saved to get the extra help his American Idol wannabe wife Sophie Gregoire Trudeau giving her free time to mingle with Hollywood A listers.

Getting a little serious, I heard the US Marines don't want anything to do with the Super Hornets because they're waiting on the F-35. Maybe Canada can do a Operation Peace Wings 2.0 with the US and swap the legacy Hornets for the Super Hornets. Yeah like that would ever happen. Best thing Canada could do is ask the US for help in unloading their legacy Hornets and use the cash to help pay for some of that interm Super Hornet. Yeah another unlikely scenario. Maybe it's better just to solder on with the legacy Hornets until UCAV's come into military service.

It'd be nice to see the Super Hornet in Canadian military service and not just because I have a Super Hornet in my stash being built as a Canadian what-if at the moment. But does Canada have the capability to afford such expendatures on both the Super Hornet and F-35? It's like the Diefenbaker government having to spend funds on the CF-105 Arrow, Bomarc and DEW line. Something that didn't happen. Just hope Justin doesn't pull off a dud like Dief the chief did with the Bomarc.

Hell, I think it's time to call Bob Diemert and get his Defender in production as an interm fighter. For your enjoyment:

  10. I never got to see Mr Hockey play live other than in the HNIC 1980 All Star game and a few of the Hartford Whalers games that were on Saturday night aka Hockey night. Great ambassador for the sport of hockey and most likely only one. He will always be the greatest player on the ice to me. RIP Gordie Howe "Mr. Hockey". :crying:

  11. The only allegiance I've ever had is to my family's finances. Squadron, brick n mortar store, eBay, I don't support any of them unless they're the best deal in town. Online prices I only look at with the shipping included. Otherwise the price is just a smokescreen. Squadron seems to have let the times pass them by. Others like Sprue Bros have picked up the mantle. There will always be something.

I'm in the same position as BIG and have to agree about looking at both the price and shipping cost with online sellers, ie you'll can always find a kit for $1 with a shipping of $100 on ebay. I haven't bought from Squadron since the 90's but even then it was rare because something on sale with the shipping would sometimes be the same price as getting one from my LHS which I now rarely do because of personal finances or lack of it.

Many make very good points. It is after all a business and in free enterprise it's survival of the fittest but then again if they go what shape would the hobby be in.

I can't say what to do but whatever happens is the natural course of life.

  12. After being given his 1985 Autobiography written by himself and Leo Janos, I read from front cover to back and was truly impressed by his accomplishment given his limited academic background. His life is something that would not happen in this day because of his limited education. However, it shows back then that one's abilities was much more important and valued than your pedigree. Another thing I got from Yeager is how humble the guy is. He could have really cashed in, especially after "The Right Stuff", but didn't. After reading I thought if he never got the breaks and opportunities he did because of his limited academics, how many more months or years it would have taken finally break the sound barrier.

  13. Thought I'd share this because it seems so fitting of the season. The background story is my small niece went to see the Disney on Ice Frozen show. 2 days later she fell while playing with this light up wand they sell at the show and broke it. I fixed it and while messing around with my camera and moviemaker, recorded a video on the process of repairing the wand and it's electronic parts. Lucky it was a simple solution. Hope you either enjoy or find it interesting. Advance apologies for some fuzzy zoom in's, it's a cheap camera.

  14. Ditto. Big thanks to all those who organized, ran and participated in this fun event. That was scary on Friday nite and I was lucky to be in the chatroom long enough for Corsair to return and let us know about his Dad.

I missed last year's one and the 2nd day of chatroom shenanigans made up for it. It was a Festivus miracle minus the aluminum pole, airing of grievances and feats of strength  . Thanks for the fun guys  .

  15. I'd love to have a 1/48 Fantan. I'm absolutely shocked Trumpeter hasn't done one already, being as it's one of the most important Chinese types of the past 40 years.

It's also why I'm so baffled they haven't made one. Being their first indigenously developed aircraft that helped lead their aviation industry to where it is now. Hopefully, Trumpeter will finally take notice to the importance of the Fantan and immortalize it in an injection plastic kit.
