  1. thanks everyone! looks like its a D/G for me... i'll let you know what I get once I get this queen off my bench... ill keep the list of aftermarket goodies saved too!
  2. I think i'll go with the D or the G... its always been one of my favorite aircraft... they just look mean... i'll see if there are any aftermarket goodies to choose from for either of them... thanks, Leo!
  3. Hey everyone... its been a L O N G time since I posted anything on here... life gets in the way sometimes... I would like to get a Stuka kit and was wondering what the overall consensus was for 'best OOB kit out there' I would like to use some PE and some resin, so your thoughts on that would be most appreciated as well would you please post your opinions? I have some experience with Hasegawa and Trumpeter and Testors, but not much else... Resin is totally new to me, but so far, I like working with it (I used and Aires in a 1:32 F4U)... and while the detail is phenomenal, I cant say as muc
  4. I've started back, but have a busy sched (excuses...I know) I will tRY to get it done in time... I have until June, so maybe i'll be ok i'll keep you posted.... should progress pix go on this thread or in 'in progress'? I SHOULD be getting my 1:1 engine back this weekend... looking forward to finally dropping it in the frame, so I can set the tub and make some progress
  5. i LOVE those masks! i dont know if i'll submit, but mine is the trumpeter 1/32 F4U... THE KIT: got the aires cockpit, engine, and a bunch of eduard stuff, and other fiddly bits... i have NEVER worked with resin before and know nothing about it, but i wanted it to look as good as possible THE DETAILS: i was trying to make it for my dad for his birthday as its one of his favorite aircraft (besides the P 51)... i spent alot of time on the engine, scratchbuilding and when i did the dry fit, the kit cowl doesnt fit right... its too small or i have too much crap on the engine... THE STAL
  6. My prayers are with Matts family in their time of need... i just wish there was something that we could do.... fellow modeller
  7. Hey Oliver, i just cautght this thread today and its AMAZING... your work, technically accurate or not, is, in 2 words, freaking unbelieveable. i have seen some outstanding work on ARC by so many modellers and yours ranks right up there near the top... with luck, patience, and perseverence, i hope to ONE DAY be able to make things look as 'real' as yours do... it is truly amazing. 2 questions though... how in the world did you get the federal government to allow you to actually own your OWN huey and how have your neighbors reacted to having you disassemble and reassemble a 1:1 huey in y
  8. Looks great Steve... i LOVE the weathering... i hope to get that quality on my 1D.... TB
  9. here it is... alll wired up, stained and ready for dull coat... now its on to the cockpit
  10. YES!!! thanks Mickey!!! TB
  11. dude... thats freaking INSANE!... but its most definately Sierra Hotel in my book... very, VERY cool... :) TB
  12. Hey all- i have been looking for the tools that people use to make circles or loops with wire... i have found the ones at micro-mark (looks like a pencil, with a conical end) but id like to find the one that the armor people use to make the grab handles and such... more SQUARE than round... i know its out there, i just cant find it.... anyone know what i am talking about? THANKS :) TB
  13. maybe its just 'one of those kits'... you know sometimes it all just clicks... and sometimes its a fight, no matter how hard you try... i think it looks GREAT!
  14. thanks... i think theres going to be alot of masking in the cockpit... and i plan to start it in a week or so... i want to get this closer to finished before i start
  15. ok all... heres the progress so far... if any of you saw this in critiques, you know i was TERRIFIED of this resin as i have never worked with it before... but it looks to me like its coming along OK, and im very pleased.. thanks to CorsairMan for all of his reference pix... and thanks to everyone else who offered opinions and help... its paid off well so far.. please, let me know what you think... im WAY open to comments and suggestions the wire is 0.5mm copper (phone wire) and the push rods are .025 rod from evergreen... the beige color is a test to see what color i want to do the ign
  16. that bad-boy looks GREAT! and your pix are most excellent... i like the dio just the way it is... i guess the coloring on the bushes and such would be determined by geography and season... green would add to it, but NOT having more green certainly doenst TAKE from it... i think its fantastic... what is the oil dot method? ive never heard of it before MK
  17. thats how i set it up at photbucket... else they take too long to load...
  18. ok... new camera... new pix... i promise... no more until i get some more work done
  19. my references so far are: CorsairMan and i google a bunch of stuff... i found a bunh of really good pix of the engine there, saved them on my computer, and open them up when i need a look... if anyone out there has the PW R2800 Double Wasp, jus google 'PW R2800' under images... it workd great for me thanks for the kind words... more detailing to follow... and more pix too... maybe with a new camera!
  20. heres where i am now fellow ARCers... do i need to move this to in progress? let me know what you think, please! im feeling a whole lot better now that its starting to look like something other than a bag of broken parts! once again, please excuse the lighting... im gonna go look at a new camera today... maybe a digital SLR... gonna need one anyway right? :D
  21. wow... thats pretty amazing testimony... imaybe theyll make a x-reference sheet or something one day...
  22. what are your opinions on Vallejo paints vs MM, Gunze, Polly Scale and the like... i heard that Gunze is getting out of the paint business (from my LHS) and i LOVE testors, but i think theyre a little thick to shoot striaght from the bottle... Tamiyas are good from the bottle, and i like Polly Scales too... but i see tat Vallejo has a HUGE pallete to chooose from... any opinions?
  23. most excellent! i really like the staining around the exhaust... way cool markings too!
  24. PBoilermaker- i find ALL of it scary... i know its zap for glueing, and wash before painting and that stuff... the directions for the engine are HORRIBLE... and the cockpit has a lot of extra material that needs to be cut off... i AM happy to announce that i got a saw attachment for my rotary and that i jumped into the engine with both feet last nite... CorsairMan has been spoonfeeding me details and such ( thanks very much, CorsairMan) quick rundown... crankcase is a custom mix of RLM 72 with some black (pretty close if not too blue) cylinders are A/C interior black, over that is burnt i
