  1. i keep mine in a shoe box in my desk drawer... i pull out what i will need for each project and set them aside... probably explains why i have 2-3 bottles of the exact same thing... but it works for me... sometimes :D
  2. i used a combination of BBs and fishing weights... all from wally world... i got 1500 BBs for $5 USD i think... some fun tack (yellow blu-tak) and some CA... but thanks for the info!
  3. thanks guys... istvan... i'll try that next time... it was an enamel flat white, and yes i do clean it after each color... i think it may be the WAY that i cleaned it... needle out the aft vs out the fore end... thanks again! PS... it was BOYD 'header white' that i am using to build a 67 chevelle... thought id try a car before jumping back to planes... does it matter if its a paasche VL? for the cleaning method mentioned above??
  4. try aluminum foil covered with tissue paper (like comes in a gift box at christmas) soaked in white glue either painted to the color you want (white maybe?) and dull coat it press the foil over the shapes you want to cover, to get a positive 'stencil' then soak the tissue paper... then lay it over the foil and allow to dry... 24 hrs or so... paint, weather, and dull coat... apply to desired surfaces with CA i did it for the ballistic curtains in my tomcat and it turned out pretty well... although you cant really see them... I know theyre there hth TB
  5. what did that cost ya? I LIKE!
  6. thats incredible! are you going to have your mail forwarded there? VERY nice job on the finishing...
  7. i too have a compressor that i got with a nail gun at home depot... i got the 4 gal dbl-barrel... added a water trap from paasche and have had no problems (other than previous posts... whch are MY fault)... wally world and tarzhay are good places too... alos, try pep boys (if you have one)... sometimes they have good deals too... with a compressor, you wont have to go to the gas station to fill up a tank... just make sure to drain it after each use to prevent rust on the INSIDE of the tank(s)... thats what makes them fail (after several years) my $ .02 hth... and good luck... let us kn
  8. another one for you guys... after spraying a different model with tamy gloss white, i thouroughly cleaned my AB and turned to my GB F14 to finish its dull coat... lo and behold... white specks from the AB... ***?!?!?! i cleaned and cleaned and cleaned with laquer thinner and windex and 91%... and tried again... STILL white specks... i was a neesy-hair away from stomping both the kitty AND the AB into a million pieces... i used the color cup for the AB when i shot the white... and for the dull coat... but i ihave been reluctant to touch it again... in fact i havent touched styrene in ov
  9. Hey all- its been a while since i posted... quite busy here... roofing the house and blowing things up (literally)... i am a rock blaster but after MUCH searching, i finally got a jar of MS 500... i have read LOTS of things here that touch on the subject, but none that really EXPLAIN its use, purpose, and/or application... i have 2 of the new academy bugs and i want to start on them soon, and if necessary use the 500... i am researching its uses etc for future reference... could someone please tell me what its for, what it does, how to apply it, and what to use to clean up afterward? i go
  10. Hey all- i no longer have anyway to down load the pics that i take of my entry... which means i dont know how to submit it... if anyone can help, i would appreciate it... if nothing else, i'll send the data card to the moderators... i REALLY want to share my bird with my friends... but i am at a loss as how to do so... PLEASE HELP!
  11. i mixed some tamiya green with tamiya blue... seeing as how i remember thrm to resemble the old coke bottle glass color... it came out pretty good... thinned with alcohol (91% inspirational)... then dipped in future for clarity good luck!
  12. or... if youREALLY want a static model... try to set it on an engine test pad... like we did in the USN... had to take them to the hot pad for a/b testing.... chocks, chains, canopy up, maintenance crew inside... the whole 9 yards... that may resolve some of your wiring issues as there is always GSE around a testing jet... good luck... your piece is simply... AMAZING... one of these days i hope to be able to do something like that...
  13. good morning... is there a secret to getting the gunze clear flat (as a final coat) to be toally dead flat? the lasttime i used a flat cote was testors rattle can and it was excellent... but i'd like to try gunze... any suggestions??
  14. nope... they were some sort of boron composite... but painted... on some of the way early models, i think they may have been a shade different, but when i was crawling on them as an AE in the 80s, they were painted the same shade of haze grey
  15. also... its still in gloss cote phase...
  16. heres my GB entry... ALL wings, stabs, and tails are loose for progress pix... what do ya think?
  17. yup... as one can tell from the CONSTANT leaks and jammed daily/weekly doors... once up to spedd, the heat from the friction would close everything up with german torque... GOOTENTITE...
  18. Hey all- Before I start my accurate SBD5 i will ask for your advice about preshading... as in colors to use... and in topcoat colors... preferably pacific theatre... i REALLY dont want to ruin this one, as looking at the unassembled parts shows LOTS of great detail of course it will be weathered to show wear and tear... so any and all info (plus pix if possible) will be greatly appreciated! thanks for your time and endless advice... as always... its priceless
  19. they were used in conjunction with the flaps in order to increase lift at low speeds
  20. i painted mine w/MM as well.... but the 1st coat was too brite... i thiink i used aluminum... so i fingernail scratched it off, leaving some of the residue beihind, then i sprayed with MM steel... and finger rubbed it dull... it came out OK... as for the real deal... they WERE shiny, especially after the line rats VVLd them... but up close, they were beat up with the amber colored protective film worn off in places... in the worn places, the NMF was dull... like steel, but lighter... like aluminum... getting the finish i got was a total accident... but i am quite pleased with it... i betM
  21. the one and only one i got... the Hase 1:48 bicentennial changed to a VF31 TARPS with CAM decals... probably not accurate, but im going from memory as i have no reference books... ive had more trouble with the weathering (fingerprints and smears) than with the intakes, buti got it glossed and 90% decalled over the weekend... if all goes right and i have internet access at my new job, i'll be able to submit the entry... if not, it'll just be on display at the house... but i'll post pix if i can when i am done...
  22. does anyone know if this is an UNFINISHED kit? i have only found one here in the states that is one of those cheezy ones that just need the wings attached... but i am looking for a kit to build for a friend on mine that flies them... any help would be very much appreciated!
  23. i use the yellow stuff called fun-tak... here in the states can get it just about anywhere... wally world grocery store, office max, office depot... etc i think what you have now may be the same thing... just a different color
