  1. The F-16's in the Aggressor role at Eielson AFB in Alaska are fully combat capable. They just don't have a combat mission. However the other Fighter squadron at Eielson is deployed and the aggressor squadron has taken over the armed intercept mission. Probably not the whole squadron but a detachment.

    Hi Craig,

What's the shelf life of Alclads once opened? I've never tried them out, but OP stated he had tiny fractures on his Alclad.

    Cheers,

Gwen I have bottle of Alclad that are over 10 years old and while I can't guarantee every bottle will last that long, as long as you keep your bottles tightly sealed they will last a long time. I do like there metallics but not a big fan of some of there other products.

  3. Not super uncommon. they could have been in a transfer from one unit to the next, Usually the losing unit will remove any distinctive markings. Or they just got back from the depot and was repainted. The tail codes and squadron badges are usually applied at the unit level. They will probably put them one the next time it goes in the hangar.

  4. Don't know about if it flew in or not. But most like ly it was never operationally flown. The reason I say that is that no 77 models were updated with LASTE or any of the other mods that were applied to the newer jets. In our unit we did the same thing with our two 77 models, one we made BDR trainer and the other was a load crew/ICT trainer.

  5. I always found the MiG-23 intriguing. My particular favorite is the MLD variant with all the C/L launchers on the top of the fuselage and the more ogival nose cone. Also one of the traits of the "lightweight Flogger" is the sit of the A/C as in the aircraft sits more level on its gear whereas the earlier versions have a more "tail low/nose high" attitude. I have read that the MK versions have longer MLG strut causing the tail to sit higher, but I have never had the opportunity to measure the two different versions. If either Clearprop or ICM gets that "stance" correct I'll buy one in both scales!

  6. I do a section of the model at a time. I actually do it upstairs on the kitchen table so I can have the TV on for some background noise. When I get a little tired/frustrated I get up and leave the table for a while. It will take me several sessions but I think a full set of stencils does make the model "pop" a bit. Just use Qtips and tissue paper and make sure the decals is fully down on the surface use a good solvent to insure that they fit over the details. Keep a eye out if you accidentally dislodge a decal that you put it back in position.
