Hey Pete, So THIS is the one you were telling me about on the phone. Very cool. When I read the title of the post Jeff Dunham immediately came to mind with Jose' Jalapeno On A Stick . You'll have to bring this one home to Rochester so Tom can take some pictures with the burner lit. Very impressive. Cheers Mike

Tamiya /32nd scale F-14A Black Knights edition
Skyking replied to geedubelyer's topic in In-Progress Pics
Hiya Guy, Well it looks like you came through afterall, just as I figured you would. I'm hardly an expert, as I am sure 99% of the people that will see this are as well, but it looks convincing to me. Filling in the lead edge as Chuck suggested shouldn't be that difficult though. Good to see progress on it again. Cheers Mike -
Looks great Pete, up to your usual high calibre building standards. Did Ground Control give you clearence for Buffalo so I can see it in person this weekend? Cheers Mike

Hi Frank Thanks for the comments. They should be pretty visible under the paint. I sure hope so. If they dissapear after all this work I'll not be a happy camper. Hi there OM. Long time no see. Thanks for the comments. Well I got MOST of the fuselage done. I still have to do the fin, and the underside of the wings. I can then mask off the yellow, shoot the aluminum, then I'll spray yellow on even more rivets and apply to the top of the wing. In the background you can see that I've begun riveting the floats also. Yeegads this is pain the pitot tube. I've gone cross eyed trying to keep

OK. I surrender. Simply stuning Pete. I dare say this is your best yet. Need a box? Cheers Mike

Hi Pete, Chuk, Ummm Chuk, I think it'll be happening a lot sooner, more like the 300th..lol. Seriously it's not all that bad, just a few things to watch out for, which I'll try to cover here in case anyone else wants to give these decals a go. Here's a shot of a portion of the sheet. I got the sheet of .008", with three different pitch spacings, and another sheet of double row rivets. The sheet size is about 3" x 4.5", and are covered with a single layer of carrier, so you will have to cut out your strips to separate them. The carrier film is very thin, and will stand up to handling with

Hi Pete, Wow that Vacuform brings back some memories. Good to see it being put to good uses again. Maybe I should take note of that and put a bug in the judges ear Pete. Seeing as this'll be going up against my Devastated in Major Conversions I'll need all the help I can get..:). Although in all seriousness, I don't think it'll matter a hill of beans. This is one awesome bit of conversion modeling. I'll be honored to place behind it. Coming up for BUFFCON or NOREASTCON? By the end of April I'll have 55 bottles of Abby Amber ready to be opened. I am bottling it today.... just in case you n

Pierre's Felixstowe F.2A - FINISHED after 17 months!
Skyking replied to Scalephantomphixer's topic in In-Progress Pics
Looking great Pierre. If it'll help any, I have used guitar string for valve gear on engines of this era. The nice part of it is you can leave the wire core in the middle sticking out as a "pin" to insert into a predrilled hole in the cylinder head. Much easier than trying to tack a spring onto a flat surface. Cheers Mike -
Hiya Guy, thanks for stopping by. yes you read correctly..lol. I will do the wings after I get the fuselage painted. My reasoning is I have to mask the wings to apply the aluminum lacquer, and I'm afraid I will pull up the rivet decals with the tape. I will mask the wings, spray the aluminum, remove the masking, then I will paint the rivets while still on the sheet and apply them, then seal everything in Future. At least that's the plan for now. They are VERY easy to apply, but what takes time is scootching them around with a brush to make sure they are all straight in line and not looking

Tamiya /32nd scale F-14A Black Knights edition
Skyking replied to geedubelyer's topic in In-Progress Pics
Interesting approach to your intakes Guy. Is that an epoxy putty you are using? If you use a wet finger you can do a lot of smoothing before hand and save some sanding. I'm not sure if I would have squidged it or smooshed it though. Depends on the application I guess. I prefer smooshing as I've found I have better control than squidging, or perhaps my squidger is of poor quality and doesn't give the same results as yours. In any event it looks like it's working well for you Guy. And yes I have plans for a future jet... Just haven't made up my mind yet. Would a Turbo-prop count? I have a Micro -
Pete you just prooved once again why you are one of the best. Set that against an outdoor backdrop and you would fool more than the Iranians. It doesn't matter what kit someone started with or how they get there, all that matters is the finished model. I see many a Best Aircraft in your future. Cheers Mike

It's been a few days since I've posted anything of any substance, and all I can say is Wow to all the other great builds going on. Between Pete's Viper, Guys Tomcat, Pierre's Felixtowe, a host of others and now Chuk's Me-210, I'm a bit embarrassed to post pictures of this slug, but here goes. I was hoping to get it finished before a show in Buffalo next month, but there's no way that'll happen, not with what lays before me, as you will see in a moment. I've got a splash of color on it. The tops of the wings have been painted with Model Master Chrome Yellow and allowed to set for 6 days befo

Wunderbar! Der Kartoon Master ist zurück. (with apologies to true Germanic speaking people. you just never know with Babble-Fish) Looking forward to it Chuk. Who's the female character? She's pretty hot! Cheers Mike

Pierre's Felixstowe F.2A - FINISHED after 17 months!
Skyking replied to Scalephantomphixer's topic in In-Progress Pics
Pierre I have been watching this for some time and you have certainly done Glenn Curtiss proud. I've done a few Curtiss flying boats in the past, but this simply blows those feeble attempts right back into the water where they belong. Your wood work simulation is outstanding, and the attention to detail is mind numbing, especially in the light of this being 72nd scale. I tip my hat to the Master. What a wonderful example of the true model makers art. Cheers Mike -
Hi there Chuk, Holy Bumps Batman, I never knew these existed. Thanks for turning me onto them Chuk. I just ordered two sheets and I think these will be just what the Doc ordered. I messed around with a riveter tool and various other methods and just wasn't happy with the results. This should be just the ticket. Thanks again Chuk. Cheers Mike

Looking great as always Pete. I noticed the fall leaves in your last picture. That remodel job took you some time didn't it? Will you be making it up for Buffcon or Noreastcon next month? I saw a source once for thin plexi, in the range of .020 and .030. If you don;t have a source I'll see if I can dig it up for you. I'm sure your vacform could pull it with ease. Cheers Mike

Hi Guy. Just checked in and saw an update on your Tomcat, and all I can say is wow. Love the fans. It's the little details like that, that seperate replicas from models. Very impressive. Cheers Mike -
Here's your fix Holmes..lol. Sorry it's been a while. I got side tracked on a few other projects, but now that they are finished I can focus on this turkey again. For those that may have been wondering what happened to this, (and for those that could care less too..lol) I've been able to get back to it after a couple of smaller projects and the Brooklyn, and I can focus on it again. The floats are finished and painted, and I've got the beaching dollies made, they just need to be painted yet. They are made from various strips of .040 plastic sheet, and some road wheels I got out of the spa

This is my "closet hobby", 1/32nd scale slot cars. I am in the middle of redoing my basement into my man cave, and eventually I will have a 16 x 5 table with my representation of Watkins Glen International set up. In the mean time I have been collecting cars and other goodies so that I'll be ready to go when it's set up. The GT-40 is my all time favorite race car, clinched when I was able to nab a ride in the Mk II Gulf #6 car at one of the Vintage races at The Glen many years ago. Going 180 MPH down the long back straight with your butt 6 inches off the ground should be a mandatory right of p

Hasegawa 1/24 Ferrari 250TR "Testa Rossa" Completed

That looks most rightous CC. One can almost hear the snarl of the exhaust and the whine of the cam drives and gearbox. Beautiful job. Cheers Mike -
Bingo. Thanks T-Bone. That was it. By the way, it was a self inflicted screwup on my part. Because my Badger 150 is a siphon feed, I keep my needle backed out a smidge so that I don't have to pull back the trigger for a fine line. The Iwata, being "gravity feed", you can't do that, because it will work as designed... "gravity" ... will feed the paint and it'll dribble out the opening. Now that I feel totally stupid because I didn't figure that out sooner... :). Oh well. Nobody said you had to be a Rocket Scientist to build models. B) Thanks for the replies guys. Cheers Mike

I've been using a Badger 150 for as long as I can remember and have always been happy with it. A couple of years ago at a local show I won an Iwata CR Revolution with the color cup on top. As my 150 was working fine, it has sat in my tool box since then. I got it out yesterday when the Teflon Seal on my 150 went south, and I needed to shoot some primer on my Dev's floats. I used Alclad's prethinned primer, which my 150 shoots without any issues at all. I loaded up the color cup, and after a few seconds it started spurting out big blobs of paint. I double checked my primer, gave it s couple of

Thanks Mike, Rob. yes Mike I'll do the same as I did with Saratoga. It'll be a glass case with a mirror back panel so both sides can be viewed from the front. Not sure about Maine Rob, but Olympia is a definate. I want to do the Brooklyn first though, and that won't be until later this summer or fall, once I get my cave done. Thanks for the comments guys. I appreciate it. Cheers Mike

Indian here's what Trafford Doherty, Director of the Glen Curtiss Museum had to say: Cheers Mike -
Thanks for the comments guys. I appreciate it. This has been a very enjoyable build, and your feedback and comments have been most welcome. No not really Mike. I'll admit I am somewhat picky in my subjects, perhaps to a fault. My main interests have always been Early US Navy or World War One aviation or ships, so I really don't pay much attention to anything outside that arena. My suggestion to you though is if you are tempted, yield to it. When you build a model of a subject you are really into, the odds of it looking great go up exponentially. Your Roto-Dynes are an example. Here's the f
