  1. Hi Guy No it's actually the paint itself. Tony explained that a particular resin was left out of a production run that causes the paint to not cure. I seem to have the luck of the draw of getting more than one bottle. I should have this kind of luck with the Lottery..lol. Eh not so much a disappointment as it is aggravation. I know it's not the end of the world. Heck when I post pictures here of something I just show the finished result. What you don't see are the piles of scrap from parts or components I wasn't happy with. My T4M for example, had 2 1/2 sets of wings before I got a set I
  2. Wow. All I can say is "wow". Great stuff Chuck. Hope the missus is on the mend. Cheers Mike
  3. Looks great even before your masterful weathering Pete. Between you and Guy the Viper is well represented. Cheers Mike
  4. Hammina hammina hammina oradit rt wer'pw wriorp nlkdf   (babbeling like an idiot in the corner) Lovely Guy. Thought I was looking at the real thing for a second. Cheers Mike
  5. Well Holmes I'm afraid the pictures will have to wait a bit yet. I spent most of the day Saturday rebuilding the kit interior, accurizing the floor, Instrument panels, radio gear etc. When it came time to paint the floor assy and fuselage interior, I used Alclad aluminum. Unfortunately, and this is the second batch of Alclad that has done this to me, the paint refused to dry. After two days it's still tacky and it shows fingerprints at the slightest touch. With all due respect to Tony, he did replace the defective stock I had the first time, but unfortunately the replacement bottles he sent a
  6. Wow Holmes you must be psychic. As a matter of fact I am back at the bench now. All the Honey-do stuff is done for this winter so I can do modeling again. I am working on 4 projects at once - a first for me - and at this moment it happens to be the Devastator again. I've also got the Trumpeter Saratoga in the works, and also will be cutting wood soon for masters for a Hall PH-1 in 48th scale and a Boeing Model 40C in 32nd, my first venture into the Land of The Big Scale. You know DB, I have thought about that actually. The only thing holding me back would be how to replicate the corrugated
  7. Stakken or one of the other "R" planes... but hard to tell from the shape of the master alone. I'll have to look through my copy of "The German Giants" to get a better idea. Interesting builds. I have drawings for an HP 0/400 in 32nd scale for a "someday" project. Cheers Mike
  8. The Master has begun. I am going to now take a hammer to all my previous efforts of biplane flying boats, cut up all the masters and take up knitting, as they will be severly put to shame. Cheers Mike
  9. I am gathering references for two budding flying boat projects, and I think you may be able to assist me on both. They are: Hall PH-1 Naval Aircraft Factory PN-12 When you have a free moment could you drop me an email to mr1057@frontiernet.net . Thanks Louis Cheers Mike
  10. Hey Pete LTNS, I think there may be therapy for that Pete.. Seriously I appreciate that coming from a builder of your calibre. PM inbound Cheers Mike
  11. Gato that is a very intriguing technique. The filler you are using appears to be a two part polyester autobody filler similar to what we refer to as "Bondo" here in the US. Does it get very hot during the cure process? I've thought of using a similar technique, but inserting blocks of basswood inbetween the profiles, and sand till I get to the profile. Your method seems to be a lot quicker and with less mess too. I'll be following this one. Cheers Mike
  12. Lindberg's Jenny has one. It's kind of lumpy in places, especially the valve gear, but in outline and size it's pretty good for 48th scale, considering the age of the kit. As John mentioned. the 16th scale Jenny from Model Expo has a dandy, and if money is no object, there's a 1/4 scale version that actually runs... for a mere $5,550.00 and change. Check it out here. Engine's and Things advertises one, but you take your chances with that one. I have not ordered one from previous experience with other engines from them. I can't comment on Olimps/ 70tooth scale kits and what they have, but fr
  13. Boy I'll say. That's an understatement of huge magnitude. After your last few scratchbuilt works of art I'd say you are way past ready OM. Interesting subject. As a fan of Curtiss products and Mr. Curtiss himself (way underplayed by history in my humble opinion) it's good to see examples of their aircraft being used by countries other than the US, even if they had less than stellar results. Cheers Mike
  14. Hi Tom, :P I never noticed the rudder. I was focused on the fuselage shape, aux struts form the lower wing and landing gear, cabanes and overall shape. Also now that I look closer, the cockpit openings on the original are not as deep. It's official. I'm an idiot..lol. I still don't think it's a PT-3 though. Cheers Mike
  15. I believe it's a Myers OTW, built between 1936 and the start of WW2. Only about 100 were produced. This restoration's upper wing is a smidge different with no aelerons, and the fuel tank appears to have been moved. Cheers Mike
  16. I have to admire your patience Pierre. I've been down that road and it's easy to loose interest, but you've stuck with it to build what I think is the nicest Swordfish, and possibly one of the best if not THE best biplane models I've ever seen. Adding the diorama base just adds another dimension to the effect. Cheers Mike
  17. OldMan, I have to admit, form a personal point of view, this one is your best effort to date. It's a lovely little model of a wonderfully whacky airplane. My hat's off to you sir. Cheers Mike
  18. Grey Ghost that has to be the best all time left handed compliment anyone ever gave me..lol. Thank you, that made my day. Cheers Mike
  19. Ahhh Chuk, you fell victim to the same thing I did regarding Vector Engines. They are true works of art and dead on for accurate dimensions, and there lies the rub. Kit engines are generally a bit smaller in actual scale diameter to compensate for the thickness of the plastic of the cowl. Vectors are spot on, so the kit cowl is now too thick and won't fit over the engine. I found this out the hard way on my SPAD A-2 project some time ago. Now one must make a decision... vacuform a new cowl or grind out the cowl, or tops of the engine like you did. Something to keep in mind for future projects
  20. Love the bulkhead and panel detailing Randy. Not too often you see a 'copter done up with all the interior goodies. Just a question, is the sound unsulation the quilted material or just padding stuffed in all the nooks and cranies? Years ago I had to add some to the cargo area of a C-130 I built for someone. I used thick aluminum foil and then embossed the quilting into it with a straight edge on a soft surface. I cut it to size as needed, stuck it in place with some contact cement and painted over it. It's still in place after 10 years with no problems. You just have to be careful working
  21. Hi Guy,, Seriously cool update as always. Love the touch with the vents... nevawouldathunkit. Oh I feel your pain there, but... it's nice knowing "it's in there". Cheers Mike
  22. Greeting OM. Thank you for the link, that's a facinating site. I had a bit of a hassel with the frames but got it to display and it was worth the effort. Yes... too many too I think. The kit comes with 18, but I wanted to do the entire wing, so I've ordered another 3 of each of the aircraft 6 packs, and I have to get more of the GoldMedal aircraft PE sets. I must be crazy. Cheers Mike
  23. You know Timmy this has got to be one of the best examples of the scratchbuilders art I have ever seen. Words simply don't do it justice. All one can do is stare in stunned silent awe. Simply the best. Cheers Mike
  24. Greetings OldMan, glad to see you are back at the bench again with yet another esoteric and facinating subject, and wonderfully executed as well. Cheers Mike
  25. Simply lovely jono. Well done. Very realisticly weathered too. These aircraft took a beating in the north Atlantic sub patrols. Cheers Mike
