  1. I'll add to that, it will have better stealth (all aspect), better radar and sensors, it will be flight testing without any problems in 1/4 the amount of time, and it be able to outmanuever anything in the west. We are definitely doomed.
  2. No, I wouldn't say stupid, I don't get abstract art, I don't get what the artist is trying to portray - it goes way over my head. That doesn't mean a person is stupid, they may not have the correct predisposition to appreciate it. Abstract art to me is is a bunch of shapes and colors, yet other people love the stuff, which is fine by me. I don't tell people not to go and save their money, I expect adults to make their own decisions you may or may not like it but that is up to you to decide and you will not know unless you go. cheers
  3. This movie does seem to be polarizing, people either like it and realize there is more to the story than what is explicitately shown, or the movie goes way over their heads. I would recommend to see it and then visit the Cavolorn Prometheus explained link I mentioned earlier. Also realize this movie is the first of a possible 3 movies, so some answers will not be explained for a while. cheers
  4. I didn't watch the video but if it was involving Toyota - was it possibly unintended acceleration? - Too Soon? cheers
  5. Welcome to Canadian procurement SOP. cheers
  6. In the seven point action plan (in response to the Auditor General report), Seven Point Action Plan they call for a F-35 secretariat, now they are calling it a National Fighter Secretariat. Probably to make it seem more transparent. It doesn't really matter the higher up in the RCAF have told us we are getting the F-35 unless something drastic happens to the program soon. It is a pretty much done deal. cheers
  7. A very upbeat article about the progress of the F-35 as of late: Pentagon's best kept secret From the Article: "The reality is that for the third straight year flight tests are ahead of schedule, the cost to build each plane is falling fast, and international partners are so enthused that new customers are getting in line for the F-35 on a regular basis (South Korea will be next). So how come you don’t know any of this? The reason you don’t know it is that political appointees have decided they can score points with Congress by attacking their own program, and national media
  8. That link is only good for one thing it may direct the reader to a knowledgable article: Prometheus Explained Might have to go watch it again. cheers
  9. I fully agree, no one does a spaceship - planet reentry like Ridley Scott. The comments I heard around me where, "wow where did they film this?" "That's awesome" - in referance to Prometheus's final approach through the mountain pass. There was a large amount of work in trying to make ship seem functional, and realistic. Overall I thought it was a great movie, as long as you know a few things going into it: (spoiler alert) Like someone mentioned the planet they go to isn't the same one in Alien/Aliens. LV-423 vs LV-426. The derelict ship in Alien is not the same as in Prometheus, so i
  10. The tractor props as they are called are shaft driven from the 2 main engines, at high speeds the main rotor is uploaded/slowed down and the wings as small as they are provide up to 80% of the lift. Slowing of the main rotor counteracts the problem of retreating blade stall at high speeds. cheers
  11. More like lack of flight hours during the year might be a contributing factor. cheers
  12. Some good news, all versions of the F-35 are safe and the US will continue with testing. Panetta Annoucement "The F-35 joint strike fighter is key to maintaining domain superiority, and the military remains committed to the program, Panetta said. “But in this budget, we have slowed procurement to complete more testing and allow for developmental changes before buying in significant quantities,†he added" -Panetta A good article about Japan's selection of the F-35 and possible further buys.... F-35 Japan cheers
  13. The article only mentions a possible delay for the F-35, the big cuts will be in the numbers of troops for the Marines and Army. In another part of the article it mentions that ships and aircraft will be a priority and the the F-35 is the biggest program the US has. cheers
  14. First Landing of the F-35B on the USS Wasp. Nice to see the flight test program moving along quickly. This is be a great capability for the Marines. Cheers
  15. Careful dude, GG with start calling you a fanboy, if you bring insight into this conversation. And in other news Taiwan is planning to request the F-35. Taiwan F-35 Cheers
  16. I'll probably be called a fanboy again, (seems to be GG's favourite thing), but here is a correction to that story. Engines are included in price actually. Enjoy.
  17. A RCAF at an AFB that will be flying a "Navy fighter" within a year....... A better comparison to the Super Hornet would be the F-35C with a payload of 17,000 to 18,000 lbs, (about 5000 internal, 2x 2000 bombs plus AAMs) not 2,000 lbs as it was suggested in your post. But again these are max loads and most likely will not be used in real life, especially for the Super Hornet as every weapon added to those high drag pylons further reduces its range. Not to mention the damage to some weapon components from sitting unstreamlined in the airstream, but that is another story. True neithe
  18. McDonnell Douglas originally designed and built the Super Hornet, Boeing only took over MD after this process was done. But to compare a Super Hornet (which is an essentially new aircraft but heavily based on the legacy hornet) to an all new fighter which has to accomplish 3 different missions is not quite suitable. Even the very low risk Super Hornet - which the US Navy originally never wanted due to its limitations- was and still is encountering problems. Such as faulty wing components, and a serious design flaw that was never fixed, that being the weapon seperation problems. During test
  19. Wow, this "critic" - and I use the term loosely, missed the whole point of a Transformers movie that being to target boys and young men and entertain them for 2 1/2 hours. With a recipe of action, a hot actress, explosions, cars and car chases, and an rapidly moving Sci-Fi story, Transformers 3 with a $500 million take in 9 days is already a huge success. This "critic" is just ****** he will never see that sort of money or fame. Great movie to see on the big screen! Not quite good as #1(close) but way better than #2.
  20. It was pretty good, didn't know what to expect. It definitely has some moments and lines. Seeing the F-35 flying around was cool but in a unrealistic situation. cheers Mark
  21. 971 was the number of flights conducted not total flight hours, as this May 20 Avleak article mentions: Click Here Couldn't find the total recent total flight hours lately but with over 970 flights the total hours are probably closer to 1,500 flight hours. AA-1 was the first production prototype but it was not a weight optimized version so it was not representation of the current lighter F-35s. Weight being a prime concern for the B-model and it's ability for vertical landings with carried weapons. cheers Mark
  22. Don't know what exactly you are trying to say here, but the $16 billion I am pretty sure is in current Cnd. $ (2011) $29 billion according to a PBO report which has a very sketchy method of figuring out a cost of a fighter (by weight), that report used a 2010 base year, and to realize how overestimated the report was in 2010 a F-35A should cost over $200 flyaway cost (according to the PBO), in reality the A model is $121 million. So only about $80 million off the actual price, doesn't hold much potential for any of their other figures to be remotely close. That is a very simplistic cal
  23. And a twin engine design would have even higher intial and service costs. As Neu has said pretty well, looking at the bigger picture. The F-35 gives Canada a nice chunk of industrial benefits and tech know-how, interoperability with our biggest ally, and of most importantly an aircraft that will be in production for decades to come which will guarantee parts supply and upgrades, unlike some other current aircraft. What would you suggest as an alternative?
  24. MCAS Yuma to begin construction for the new F-35 facilities. MCAS Yuma I might have to make it a point to visit the In-laws when they go down for the winter next year. cheers Mark
  25. All I have to say is: GO RIDERS!!!!!!!!
