  1. Fransico, Wonderful job you did there on that F-16! Terry Sumner
  2. Try washing your resing with this stuff.... Hosted on Fotki Works great! Usually can buy it at auto parts stores or even Wallyworld. Terry Sumner
  3. As I said in the other thread. I use a dab of Future right on the model surface and place my decal right IN that dollop of Future. I've done this even of flat coated surfaces, the flat coated over all the decals. It does take longer though as the Future does indeed dry slower than a set/sol combination. The other tips from the other guys are well advised also. Terry Sumner
  4. I've had this happen too. My solution was to put some MicroSol or SuperSol (same stuff) on the decal, the prick it a zillion times with a needle (or the point of a new Xacto blade). This let the Sol get down under the decal to get rid of the air that somehow got trapped in there. An alternative that works very well too is to substitute the Solvent with Future. In fact, placing a decal in a pool of Future works even better than the Set Or Sol sometimes. Something about that Future sucks them decals right down with no silvering. Terry Sumner
  5. The dry transfer is just what the name implies...it's a dry image that you transfer to the surface you want it on. To do so, you can cut the marking out or leave it on the sheet if you have enough room for placement. Then you hold it in position where you want it and rub the back side of the sheet or backing paper with some kind of tool used as a burnisher. A small piece of soft wood works nicely as does a q-tip. You are literally just rubbing the thing onto the surface. It sticks to the surface and comes off the backing sheet when you burnish it down. Don't rub excessively hard as you can dis
  6. A Mattell vac-u-form I won on ebay for $20 in great shape! Terry
  7. Testing testing Terry
  8. It's not airplane related, but I got the September 1963, issue of Model Car Science magazine I won on ebay for 7 bucks! Brought back a lot of memories. And...I've won 4 other 1960 magazines too that are still to come! Terry Sumner

  10. If no can come through for you today, and I highly doubt that, I can get you the F-15c instruction sheet later tonite after I get home from work. I'll check this thread when I get home. Terry Sumner
  11. Yeah..me too! Got 2 of those sets. They're pretty nice and they have p/e with them also. Terry
  12. You're right. Those Aires sets are very thin and mine does have a small divot broken out of the tip. Terry
  13. Here's a photo I took a couple of years ago with a Revell can and an Aires can side-by-side. You can make your comparisons... http://public.fotki.com/tsumner/miscellaneous/burners.html Terry Sumner
  14. In 1/144 scale I doubt that you could even notice any texture. I would think that flat black would be enough. Just think...if the ridges and valleys of the real texturing were even 1/4" high, how high would 1/144th of that be? It would be .0017" ! That's not exactly very discernable.... So I submit that any texture you lay down would be way out of scale... Terry Sumner
  15. Sure would like to see a how-to on how ou did that burning work! Just superb! Terry
  16. Got Eagle Strike Decals' "Furies of the Fleet", parts I, II and III. Also, Detail and Scale number 68, FJ Fury and Steve Ginter's Naval Fighters Number 25, North American FJ-4/4B Fury books. These items to go with the Hobby Boss 1/48 FJ-4 Fury I picked up at Valleycon last week. Terry Sumner
  17. Got "The Modern Hog Guide" and that new "Jammin Jihad" decal sheet for the EA-6B from Afterburner. Excellent book and very nicely done decal sheet and accompaning instructions. Terry Sumner
  18. I saw this model this past Sunday at Valleycon. The photos he submitted of this masterpiece do not do it justice. There has been one heck of a lot of work accomplished on this model! With 1/32 scale, the opportunity is there to do a lot of detailing, but the other side of this is that in 1/32 scale, you are EXPECTED to detail the model. In this case, John has certainly done a marvelous job! Terry Sumner PS Not to mention John is a helluva nice guy!
  19. Yes I have one big tip for you....GET OUT NOW!..While you are still sane. This hobby will consume your life. It will become all-encompassing. You won't be able to to work, eat, sleep or simply live a normal life without thinking about some aspect of this hobby. You will become afflicted with A.M.S. (Advanced Modelers Syndrome). You will accumulate more tools, books, decal sheets, resin cockpits and detail sets than you could ever have imagined. And your collection of unbuilt kits, (Affectioniately referred to as your "Stash") will soon take over every available nook and cranny within your hom

  23. Another good stripper car modelers use is Castrol Super Clean. Which I believe is now simply called Super Clean. You can get it at Walmarts. It's affectionately known in auto modeling circles as "Lake Castrol". Terry
