  1. Thanks David...I finished it up this morning. I'll have some glamour shots of it soon! Joe
  2. Thanks guys...here is another update. Just a bunch of small items remaining. This one is nearly done now! All colors except the bare metal are from the White Ensign Models paint line...decals are from the kit. Happy Modeling all! Joe Youngerman
  3. Nice work so far...great looking camo! Joe
  4. Thanks guys...Arseny, I used White Ensign Models paints...the interior is a mix of wood primer and ALG-5 metal use primer. The exterior is AMT-7 (belly) , AMT-11/12 on the top surfaces. The white spinner and rudder were also painted with White Ensign Models superb enamel paints. These colors are highly accurate compared to most VVS colors from other manufacturers. Here is another quick shot of it glossed with Future and the weathering and decals applied. Still have the exhaust louvres, radio mast, pitot tube, wing position lights, and a few gear doors to add. I also will add a flat coat and
  5. Hi all, Here is a quick update...I have since added decals and weathering and will have it done this week...more pics to follow. Vectors 1/48th La-5FN Joe Youngerman
  6. Thanks...I'm in the final painting stages right now...more pics to follow soon! Joe
  7. Hello again guys...here are some follow up shots of Vector's new La-5FN kit in progress. The fuselage halves are joined and the one piece wing has been attached. The horizontal stabs have been added as well. I still have to do a little more surface clean-up and extra detailing but it's taking shape for sure. Fit has beeen good overall so far with no major issues at all! Hope you like it...painting begins soon! Happy modeling all!! Joe Youngerman
  8. Thanks Space M, So far the fit of parts has been suprisingly good. I had expected more issues really...my only real squawk so far is the instruction sheet. It's vague in some areas and one is left to figure out some parts placement on your own. The fit of the wing to the fuselage is no problem...a little filling, sanding and shaping but on par with an average injection molded kit. I'll post more pics soon. Joe
  9. Thanks Victor, Glad you like it so far...since taking the photos I have got the fuselage halves together and the horizontal stabs attached. I don't usually build 1/48th but am doing this one for Derek Brown. It's a great kit...which is good as it's my first all-resin kit. More pics to come! Joe
  10. Thanks Daniel...glad you liked it! Joe
  11. Hi all, Just a couple progress pics of my Vector La-5FN resin kit...available at "Buffie's Best" web site. Though it's an entirely resin kit the parts detail and fit is superior to many injected molded kits. The cockpit detail is great...though you'll need some reference material as parts placement is tricky with the basic instruction sheet provided. I added a few details but most of it comes with the kit. Hope you like it so far... Happy modeling all! Joe Youngerman
  12. Looks great Kelly! Too bad you didn't have it ready for Nats this year! Joe Youngerman
  13. Thanks Greg, I really do need to get down to that museum...I live south of Atlanta so it's not too far. I'll check it out when I get there! Derek Brown is working on another "Buffie's Best" CD about an on going Zero restoration that looks great so far...this and several other models will be featured on the CD as well. He tells me it should be out in about 18 months...should be an excellent resource! Joe
  14. Thanks Daniel...glad you enjoyed it! Joe
  15. Hi all, Just some glamour shots of my very recently completed 1/72 scale A6M3 Type 32. I added new inboard gear doors from PE, thinned and detailed the others. Brake lines from fine solder, new nose guns from alum tubing, new sliding canopy section from Squadron Vac, new exhausts from Moskit, mostly new cockpit from Eduard PE and scratch built parts. And finally the cowling was thinned, improved and pushrods were added to to the engine cylinders. No tail hook or radio mast were fitted to this a/c so they were discarded. The markings are a mix of painted Hinomarus, kit decal stenciling, and
  16. I have a comment T-Bolt...Beautiful Model!! Really well done overall...nice subject, great finish! Joe
  17. Thanks Matt...while not quite "stock", I agree it still falls short of a truly accurate Type 17 but I do like it...fun build really. I will send some of the new pics I took today...thanks! Joe
  18. Thanks guys...David, yes, it is very small and will actually fit in the palm of your hand! Joe
  19. Hi all, Just a few pics of my Hasegawa I-16 Type 17 in 1/72 scale. I cut open the entry door and made a new one from scratch...got rid of the scribing for the starboard door as the type 17 had none. I replaced the belly exhaust pipes with new ones from plastic tube and drilled out the others. I added several cockpit details and a gunsight. Gun barrels were drilled out, gear doors thinned and the retraction cables added to the main gear. Decals are from the kit but the wing stars were left off as this a/c did not have them in 1942. Happy Modeling all! Joe
  20. Thanks guys...Ken, thanks for the name history on this little Rat, Donkey, Fly...good stuff! I did know the Russian name but somehow "little donkey" just seems wrong for a fighter plane's name! Joe
  21. Thanks Matt and "the Rat"....yes, Squadron's books tend to have some gafs in them every time though they are getting a little better...the photos are the biggest help usually. I have heard the ICM kits are more accurate...Hasegawa's has several shortcomings for sure! Your VVS site is great! Keep up the good work! Joe
  22. Thanks Matt...I used your site, Squadron's book, and a couple others in my collection. I agree the 28 is likely not silver but I don't believe that it's white either. Even in the B&W photo in the Squadron book it's obvious the number is a darker shade or hue than the belly color...which is a known quantity. I think it's likely that it was light gray but have no way to be sure. The silver was what Hasegawa guessed at and I just used it. They also show stars on the wings top and bottom but this a/c clearly had none in either location so I tossed those in the spares box. :D I need to get mo
  23. Thanks Julian...yes it's a homely little a/c for sure! Glad you liked it though! Joe
