  1. I used Hobby Color acrylics for the main camo and Tamiya acrylics for the metal areas at the back. Thanks for the heads up onthe antenna. It must have dropped off. I will sort that out. Many thanks for everyones comments. Ted
  2. Hi Phantom The Eduard Brassin set comes with a F-4J radome as part of the set. This includes the interior detail seen, so it was just a paint job needed. For the FGR.2 I had to remove the pod under the chin, which was simple enough. Thanks guys for the kind comments. Ted
  3. Hi All Just finished this Phantom, my first for the year. It's always nice to get one done. The kit is a Hasegawa 1/48th FGR.2 kit, with some additions. I used the Aires cockpit set, Aires, aux intakes, Eduard Brassin AWG-10 Radar set, which is excellent, Eduard Brassin Ejector seats after ruining the seats that came with the Aires cockpit set, Flightpath ladder setdecals coutesy of Airdoc, with stencils grabbed from wherever I could find them. First the Eduard \Brassin seats I rather liked these, though it took 3 days to get them together. Next the build itself. The Hasegawa kit n
  4. The serial numbers are based on the original Nimrod R.1 fleet, which were XW664, XW665 and XW666, withy another one joining later after XW666 crashed.
  5. Hi All The Blues are a theme I thought I would like to do in November while I was at Telford in November. When it comes to Phantom's special schemes ther is plenty of scope. The 5 below were all built since Telford in mid november. There are more I would like to do, but these 5 will suffice for now. The first 2 pictures show the group together This is the 92 Squadron example from 1991 while based at Telford. The airframe in question currently resides at Tangmere museum, Tangmere being a Battle of Britain airfield. This is the 19 Squadron example. Both this one and the one above wer
  6. If it happens again, I would recommend using an ultrasonic bath, and strip absolutely everything apart, and give it some time in the bath with some suitable thinners. You would be amazed how much gunk can come out of the brush. Just be careful with washers though. HTH Ted
  7. Well Done Ken. I hope mine turns out as nice. Ted
  8. Hi Ken I posted a pic of my props on my build thread. As you know, I had the same problem with broken blades. Basically, I cleaned off the shaft between blade and hub, drilled it out and put in brass rod as the shaft. It is nice and firm now. The blades were cleaned up, they weren't brilliant. I think they'll be OK once painted. I did have a look around for replacement props but couldn't find anything. Ted
  9. If you wish, have a look at my latest post on Britmodeller, to see how I got around the weight problem. There is no way my gear leg will break now Ted
  10. Nice progress Ken. Have you got the CofG sorted? On my model I had to put a lot of weight in the pod to stop it tail sitting. Ted
  11. Hi Ken Nice to see progress on your XC-120. On the Britmodeller site where my build can be seen, there has been discussion about thedimensions of the pods. I have measured them against the Italeri C-119, and I think they are OK. I just tried puttting an update through explaining that, but the site appears to be down. A for the undercarriage I'm having the same thought. I think it unlikely that SAC will do a metal undercarriage set, certainly not in time, but that would have been an option. Good luck with your build. Ted
  12. Eduard do some pre painted sets in the major scales. See here
  13. Hi All I have now completed my entry for the group build. Here are some pic's. The build topic can be found here Thanks for looking. Ted
  14. Hi All I've finally completed these 2 Phantoms, just in time for the Scottish Nationals next weekend. Here are some shots of the completed builds. Regrettably, I thought time was a bit tight to complete the build process, basically, the aux doors aren't too visible in this scale, but are an improvement, and the doors are very thin. The markings are mix and match, as I don't have the correct markings. The sharkmouth on the -E is hand painted, hence the poor quality, as is the 52nd TFW badges. The nose pitot's are the excellent Hobbydecal long nose set, including a nice aoa probe. I would
  15. Hi All I've made a bit more progress during the week. Today I got to squirt paint at the models The first two pics shows the FS34102 going on This was followed by FS34079. These are the common colours of the two schemes. All OK so far. Next was some FS30279 for the F-4G, and FS36081 for the F-4E. I'm pleased with this bit so far. Next up is a pause to allow to dry, then I'll do the radomes, and cover with Kleer prior to decalling. A few more details to add after that. Thanks for looking, comments are welcome. Ted
  16. I found the book I was referring to. I have the 1/48th scale book the 1/72nd scale can be found here It does include 62-12200 as the CCV aircraft. Ted
  17. Hi Jackman Those fairings were to cover the actuators for the canards. My model was not 100% accurate then, as my scratch building skills were not high, but something should be there. I have seen some line drawings on that machine in a book, I'll dig it out and send the info to you when I get home. As for the thin wings on this aircraft, it was the only RF-4C to have them, as it was decided not to change too much from it's F-4B origins. remember that originally, it was only an aerodynamic shape to demonstrate the profiles aerodynamic capability (the USMC RF-4B's actually followed the RF-4C
  18. Hi All Made more progress today, but I have not made any photos of progress. Basically, I completed the cockpits, added seats, and put the canopies on. With other finishing touches on the F-4G, they are about ready for paint. I'll probably not get a chance to do much during the week, so It'll be next weekend. I need to get these finished this month, as it would be nice to have a couple of new Phantoms for the Scottish Nationals. Thanks for looking. Ted
  19. I used the Hasegawa RF-4B as the base kit. It needs to be an RF, as the nose shape didn't change, although the recce windows got plated over. The engines were changed at some period as well. This particular Phantom is my favourite one, and I'm still planning on building it from YRF-4C start to CCV finish. I've done the start and finish, just meed to do the rest now. Just found this photo of the model I built. Note the lack of pitot probes on the tail. These were deleted earlier, possibly for the fly by wire trials. Ted
  20. Unfortunately, there is nothing to help you with the build. Microscale has a decal sheet with the markings for 62-12200. It is 72-137, but long out of print, but be warned. The fuselage stripe is too dark. I built this one some time ago. I built the fuselage as normal, then used milliput to build up the area over the intakes where the canards are mounted. The canards themselves I made from platic card, with a pin for the attachment point. Note that at this stage she still had thin tyres from when she was a F-4B, no bulges, and still retained slatted wings from previous trials. Hope this hel
  21. Hi Pete Nice job so far, can't get enough Phantoms. The pic you posted of the ECM pod has an additional benefit for my F-4E build, as I am putting AGM-65's on my build, but I couldn't locate pictures. I knew they tended to fly with 2 a side, but which pylon was empty? Thanks for providing the answer. Ted
  22. Hi All Another quick update. First of all, to add to the updated auxillary intakes, some doors are needed, so how to construct them? First problem, in 1/72nd scale they need to be thin, so below is the perfect answer. First, take a suitable can. Open it and dispose of the contents (a very important stage, as otherwise you may get a bit wet. Once yoy have your receptacle, decapitate it at both ends.Cut off all the bit's that aren't door and flatten the rest. Be careful, as the ends are sharp, so don't let Dad's do this. I then added some plastic card in the centre which get's rounded o
  23. Hi All First, apologies for a lack of updates lately. I went to a couple of model shows in February, then I've had 4 weeks of sea trials, with no internet, no modelling and no booze, and no booze. I've finally managed to get off the ship and do some modelling. I've been cracking on (appropriate for Easter ) with the F-4E half of the team. First, I repeated my effort with the aux intake. I've decided not to go to any lengths detailing it as in 1/72nd scale it will hardly be noticed. Following this, I glued a few bits together, as can be seen below. I decided to add ARN-101 and TISEO, though
  24. Hi All First of all, thanks for all your replies, they are much appreciated. A special mention goes to Scott. Your pictures are superb, and very useful indeed. Many thanks for them. On to the project. Having seen Scotts superb dealing with the aux doors under the fuselage on his F-4D, I thought I would have a go with this kit. I've never been satisfied with Hasegawa's version especially when Fujimi can do better with their Spey tooms. I decided to have a hack and see how it goes. If it falls apart, I have some spare parts so all would not be lost. The first shows the Hasegawa original.
