  1. That looks like it was taken at Finningley for BoB day September 1979. Scrambles report here seems to confirm that. HTH Ted Edit Would love to see some more. Ted
  2. I know there were 2 Tornadoes in AMARC in '99, they belonged to the Luftwaffe training unit based in the States. I have photos somewhere, but digging them out may not be easy.
  3. Here is my contribution to this topic. The first 3 are E-3's, and the last two I thought would be of interest. This is NATO's special scheme from 1999. This next one is 8 and 23 Squadrons anniversary bird, with different colours either side of the tail. The third is a French E-3F, I don't think one has been posted yet. The next is a French Hawkeye. Finally, some history in the form of a Shackleton AEW2. Thie Radar on these are even older as they were originally used on the Royal Navy Gannets. Ted
  4. There was also an FG.1 from 111 Sqdn, famously known as Black Mike, which still is at RAF Leuchars.
  5. Here is a shot that shows the FS34092 Euro scheme. I couldn't find an F-4 in that scheme so I'm posting this one as a demonstration. I have seen A-10's in this scheme.
  6. The YF-17 was simple enough to build, a bit basic. That was done in my earlier days as a diversion from many Phantoms. The main gear needs careful alignment but that was the only major comment I could make. Ted
  7. Just to say that the people who come down on these kits maybe should try buiding them. Sometime ago I built the largest resin kit I ever tried. see here While I would be the first to admit they were not the easiest builds, the important points are I enjoyed building them, and they stretched my model building abilities a lot more than a tamigawa kit ever would. I even learnt to mould resin myself. Do get one of their smaller models first though, as that would give you some idea of how they go together. i have built some unique models not available elsewhere, including an F-88, F-90, F-93, B-
  8. Afterburner Power Taken on a dark morning at Volkel.
  9. Hi Phantom You were on my list of people who would comment on the 4th and 'G'. I had hoped to catch people out with it I have to admit. Ted
  10. They're both Hasegawa kits. You can always rely on the Japanese for some spectacular sharksmouths.
  11. Firstly, thanks for the nice comments. I deliberately left stores off the F-4G to match that particular aircraft to a photo I have seen. A bit of history is called for here to explain this. Some of you may realise that the 4th TFW never operated the F-4G, but this photo here appears to be just out of modification, so probably never carried weapons in those markings, and I didn't want to risk doing something not right. My next plan is a Nevada ANG F-4G, which was never operated by them, but they did get paint on one before it was taken away from them. Ted
  12. There was another kit from long ago, by a British firm called Dynavector. As memory serves, they did vac form kits with some white metal parts. Can't help any more than that unfortunately.
  13. Personally, I never prime resin, cockpits will be OK as they don't take so much handling, as long as the cleaning is thorough (which you have done). I have even painted whole resin kits without priming.
  14. Hi All, I have drifted away (temporarily) from my favoured 1/72 scale with a pair of 1/48th scale Phantoms. Photos taken at yesterdays model show at the Glasgow Kelvin Hall, a cracking day out. First up is a 501st Hikotai RF-4EJkai done out of the box except for a pair of resin seats. The other is a F-4G in 4th TFW markings, with added decals and ejector seats. I hope you like them, comments are welcome. Ted
  15. One good book is by the Aviation Workshop Publications Ltd, called on Target Spotlight 2 Blackburn Buccaneer. Website here It has lots of plans and walkround photos, so it should do what you want. Details on the book here
  16. Hi All Heres a few Tigers I bagged from the recent NTM10 at Volkel. This was extremely well organised by the Volkel spotters group, well done all. A splendid time was had by all. First up is the Austrian Saab 105 in a (typically) gorgeous scheme. Next is a pair of Turkish F-16's, a -C and a -D. The Norwegian AF had this striking F-16 tail. The home team put up this F-16. Additionally, they deserve a prize for the most impressive take off I have seen for a long time. The German Air Force had this pixellated Tiger scheme, which has the added benefit of being a pretty good low l
  17. While spotting at the end of the runway at the Tiger Meet at Volkel, this air ambulance EC-135 departed behind the TM aircraft that were then departing, so we got a good angle on him as he departed on a mission of his own. The chap in the left seat was really looking around for unexpected arrivals as he crossed the threshold (sensible fellow). Ted
  18. Just to show the difference in weather between the twospotters days at Volkel, I have included some of my Gripens for your interest. Ted
  19. I have the identities of the 4 aircraft converted. They are 65-0657, 65-0660, 66-7635, 66-7647.There is a photo of 66-7647 in the Aerograph Minicraft on the F-4D, by rene Francilion, but it is the same picture you have above, additionally, there is a couple of pictures of 65-0660 on airliners.net, which is now at the Maxwell AFB air park also see here I have a book called Detail scale aircraft draings by RV Resin see here which has a drawing in 1/48th scale, but only a side view. The model I made I converted using parts from an F-4G kit, and faired in with milliput. the markings were home m
  20. I built this variant in 1/72nd scale some time ago. I know there were 4 airframes involved, and they were purely test beds for the F-4G. I will do some hunting around tonight and see what I can find out. I do have the serials used somewhere. Ted
  21. I have here 3 shots of Begiums display F-16A FA-110 taken at Leuchars air show. I apologise for the quality, but they were taken directly into the sun, as can be seen from the first shot. Enjoy. Ted
  22. Hi All Many thanks for the kind comments, it's nice to be appreciated. I have sorted out some more pictures. The Royal Danish Air Force brought 2 F-16B's to the show, here is one. The German Air Force, as well as the excellent F-4 Phantom, brought along this Recce equipped Tornado. the badge on the side is from the German detachment in Afghanistan, where a lot of brave people are doing an excellent job. This aircraft is from a local museum, being a Royal Navy Vampire trainer. The USAF didn't send much this year but they did send this AFRC B-52H all the way from Barksdale AFB, Lou
  23. Very nice Stephen, good day wasn't it. I had a feeling you would be there.
  24. Part 2 I got this shot of a Tornado GR.4 doing a high g run There were as is usual these days some classics to fill the show, although they can be very interesting. First up is the F-86A, which I believe is the oldest flying Sabre in the world. Always a nice sight. Next is a rarerly seen Vampire in the markings of the Norwegian Air Force. The Swedish Air Forces historic flight was there with an SK.60 and a J29. The J29 was the first time for me, and may even be the first time at a UK airshow. Finally, what must be the largest warbird in the UK, the Vulcan. Thank you for look
  25. Hi All I went to the RAF Leuchars air show yesterday. Here is a selection of photos from there. When I arrived it was raining hard, fortunately, it stopped fairly quickly and a good day ensued. I hope you enjoy the photos. Unfortunately, we are on the wrong side of an east-west runway, so we were always looking into the sun. On with the pics. First up is an F-4F from JG-71, with a small 50th anniversary sopok on the rudder. A rare visitor at UK airshows is the French Air Force C-130H 6 Squadron stood up at Leuchars yesterday, with 4 Typhoons on view, one of which is here. They
