  1. Outstanding! Cannot believe this kit hasn’t been rereleased.
  2. Great thread! I have the old 1/48 DC-130 kit with drones in the stash. Unfortunately I’ve never been able to get my hands on the old Cutting Edge DC-130 nose for it.
  3. Wish I could make it. Already have family commitments that weekend.
  4. Good job! When I finished my new build area after the move I made a pact with myself to only build one at a time. I’ve only broken that rule once because of supplies on backorder and I couldn’t sit still waiting. After each build, I do a total clean up before the next kit is opened. Becoming organized has me enjoying the hobby more than ever. I use to spend 20-30 minutes digging through drawers and boxes looking for small items that I now have at my fingertips. I built a plywood window filler with a dryer vent door for my booth vent. I finally got around to installing some
  5. Ok, I do have them. Funny thing is, I bought them for the E markings. PM me your address and I’ll get the Navy test decals off the sheet sent to you. Scott
  6. Microscale maybe? I think I have it. I’ll check tomorrow.
  7. That’s great. I’d consider it an honor if a museum took my work to be put on display.
  8. I built a display case years back, but never fully populated it with shelves. One of my projects for this winter/spring is to build new metal supports to hold the glass sheets. Hopefully adding 6 more 22” X 42” shelves. I have to see what the latest glass pricing has peaked at. My last 4 shelves set me back $150 each and that was probably 4-5 years back. My first few shelves were $90 each. But I’ve often wondered what I’ll do when it’s full or that time comes. I’ve thought about ROTC programs or VFW posts that want displays.
  9. Yea, I didn’t catch he was using MMP. I tried it once and tossed out what was left over. Tough to spray and took forever to harden where it wouldn’t scratch off the model if looked at wrong. I was constantly cleaning the tip of the airbrush.
  10. I have no problem shooting both through my Iwata HP-CS That being said, there are different techniques for different types of paints. Just practice with reduction, dry times, how heavy you can apply, first coat “adhesion” coats for enamels, etc. I just decanted Tamiya TS-15 gloss blue for a Blue Angels project. Iwata would not spray it adequately with the .3 tip. Now my Grex with a .3 and fan tip hosed it on quite nicely.
  11. Yes, I’m a “bigger is better” lunatic that builds 1/32. I’ve built quite a bit I have in my display case. But I also have small kits to build too. Like 3-1/48 C-130 kits. Already built one in 1/72. Also have 2-B-17 kits in 1/32 and 1 B-24. But I’m all over the place. 1/144 C-5 built, 2 kits to go, 1/72 B-36 hanging from the ceiling, 1/72 Saturn V in the corner of the room and 1/72 space shuttle stack in the other corner. Usually if I can get it in 1/32, I’ll pass on the smaller scales. If it’s a subject I really want though, I don’t mind mixing it up.
  12. My wife reading the display at the Smithsonian
  13. Great research finding all this info. It was so cool for the original 33” model to pop up for sale online and now getting returned to the Roddenberry estate. It would look great in the huge display case at the Smithsonian next to the big one. Somewhere I think I have a short mic gooseneck like that. I know I have two longer ones I use as stands to paint models. Thinking about replicating my 1/350 kit with the same base.
  14. Once again, another example of why I say if you see it, buy it. Even if you don’t plan on building that subject for years down the road. We’ve lost so many cottage industry hobby providers. DMold, Rhino models, Fisher, Cutting Edge….Thankfully BiggTim picked up AMS to keep it going. And it looks like Mike West of Lone Star Models is planning on his retirement sooner than later. Edit: I forgot to mention Zacto Models has gone radio silent as well.
  15. Just had to add this…. if anyone needs any Model Master Yellow Ochre acrylic, shoot me a PM. I think I still have some stashed away.
  16. I ordered a kit off eBay from a seller in Japan last week. It was originally scheduled to be delivered tomorrow via FedEx, but it’s been sitting in the same spot now for 5 days in Japan. I’m guessing it’s some sort of customs facility? But I’m curious to see where all it travels once it hits the states.
  17. If using soap only, Dawn dish soap. Takes any and all oils off. Related story. The windshield mirror won’t stay glued in place on my 1990 F-250. Reading online it said to clean the glass and the part glued to it with Dawn dish soap and not alcohol, glass cleaner or acetone. They all leave deposits. Dawn rinsed with clean hot water won’t. im going for the 5th attempt this week at gluing it back on. Even the pros failed.
  18. Got one and I’d be all over a set of decals for that VMFA-311 F-35C posted in the pics.
  19. I’ve gotta agree. I’ve enjoyed all the 1/32 Phantoms I’ve built and a lot more to go. I am a little disappointed in the intake design so I turn to aftermarket to fix it. Yea, there are a few other inaccuracies that could be corrected, but unless you’re a Phantom Phreak you would probably never notice. Also have the 1/32 Corsair and Spitfire kits I need to get on. Apparently Tamiya feels the market is no longer there for 1/32 after low sales on the Mosquito kit. But my understanding is they over engineered it to the point of taking the fun out of the build. I wish they wo
  20. Follow this link to my build on LSM. I posted some pics of the real thing where the dots are very visible. https://forum.largescalemodeller.com/topic/19681-italeri-f-35a-splinter-scheme/
  21. Wholeheartedly agree! I cannot tell you how much interior detail I’ve either put in parts bins or the trash bin because I know it will never be seen again. I just finished up the 1/32 Star Trek Shuttlecraft. Great concept. 1st release sans interior. Second release with interior. Also interior kit available separately for early buyers like me. I did not want the interior.
  22. Oh wow. And I thought modelers came up with the black basing technique. I always thought the first A-10’s were green. Here’s a Tomcat I painted using the black basing. Of course I wasn’t going for the heavy patterning like the A-10 above.
