  1. If using soap only, Dawn dish soap. Takes any and all oils off. Related story. The windshield mirror won’t stay glued in place on my 1990 F-250. Reading online it said to clean the glass and the part glued to it with Dawn dish soap and not alcohol, glass cleaner or acetone. They all leave deposits. Dawn rinsed with clean hot water won’t. im going for the 5th attempt this week at gluing it back on. Even the pros failed.
  2. Got one and I’d be all over a set of decals for that VMFA-311 F-35C posted in the pics.
  3. I’ve gotta agree. I’ve enjoyed all the 1/32 Phantoms I’ve built and a lot more to go. I am a little disappointed in the intake design so I turn to aftermarket to fix it. Yea, there are a few other inaccuracies that could be corrected, but unless you’re a Phantom Phreak you would probably never notice. Also have the 1/32 Corsair and Spitfire kits I need to get on. Apparently Tamiya feels the market is no longer there for 1/32 after low sales on the Mosquito kit. But my understanding is they over engineered it to the point of taking the fun out of the build. I wish they wo
  4. Follow this link to my build on LSM. I posted some pics of the real thing where the dots are very visible. https://forum.largescalemodeller.com/topic/19681-italeri-f-35a-splinter-scheme/
  5. Wholeheartedly agree! I cannot tell you how much interior detail I’ve either put in parts bins or the trash bin because I know it will never be seen again. I just finished up the 1/32 Star Trek Shuttlecraft. Great concept. 1st release sans interior. Second release with interior. Also interior kit available separately for early buyers like me. I did not want the interior.
  6. Oh wow. And I thought modelers came up with the black basing technique. I always thought the first A-10’s were green. Here’s a Tomcat I painted using the black basing. Of course I wasn’t going for the heavy patterning like the A-10 above.
  7. Just finished this one last night. I kind of eyeballed the colors. But looking at the kit box, I would call it a dead ringer. Of course with Model Master gone now, the Gary Kerr recommend colors cannot be found. And I shoot lacquers now too. Light gray was 10:1 ratio of FS16440 and RAF Sky. Kind of a light green/gray color. Dark gray was also a 10:1 but using Mr. Color C13-neutral gray and C318-radome tan. ….Just if anyone is curious.
  8. You nailed it! Painting one like the studio model and not how it looked on film is a challenge. I never realized the details until I saw it in the Smithsonian. I’m painting my 1/32 Shuttlecraft right now. Now that I’ve switched over to lacquer paints, no way I could find all those enamels Gary Kerr recommends. For the main hull I went with FS16440 and British sky (green) at a 10:1 ratio. Looks good to my eye.
  9. Growing old sucks. The alternative sucks even more. My heart goes out to Jim. I’ve seen the horrors of what strokes and bad health can do to people first hand. Sometimes life really isn’t fair. I had all kinds of plans of working on vintage and classic cars again after retirement. Not gonna happen because the attempt would cripple me.
  10. TOS Pilot episodes had some differences from the production ship. And yes, spikes on the bussards was one of the differences. I think the exterior of the bridge on the saucer was shaped differently as well. Here’s an eBay link that shows the extra kit parts. https://www.ebay.com/itm/125956365191?chn=ps&mkevt=1&mkcid=28 Since SNW is pre Kirk, it makes sense they would follow the pilot episode Enterprise design.
  11. Nothing. Just checked his website and still closed due to problems with his hands.
  12. I keep waiting on it to land in my back yard.
  13. Wow. Those never made it to market? I wondered why I never saw them for sale. I built the 1/72 Saturn V along with the Space Shuttle and stacks and almost preordered them as well.
  14. Tan Models also announced the Spey Phantom and an F-111 in 1/32 A year ago the Trumpeter 1/32 Devastator would have been a 20 year running joke. But damned if it didn’t finally happen.

Fixed it for you. I love me some Zacto stuff, but it seems lately he’s been inactive on the forums, no new products and discontinued a few others.
  16. What an honor! My GP is the Flight Surgeon for the SC ANG and gets back seat time in a D model F-16. I built him the plane he flies in. He keeps it in his office but talked about putting it in the Officers Club on base. But I know the feeling. It was tough to let it go after all that work.
  17. Lots of negative reviews on the shape of the nose on Trumpeters offering. I have the Trumpeter C model and I will say the RAM panel details are highly exaggerated. I’m going to attempt at sanding them down a bit before building.
  18. I’ve been hoping for a 1/32 kit for decades. Maybe with 3D printing now, I may finally get one some day.
  19. Thanks! Nice pics. Keep ‘em coming if you have more.
  20. How about a hypodermic needle? I use 18 ga on my 1/32 builds. I flatten then taper end and insert a wire inside it.
  21. Yea, I get it if Joe citizen designed and implemented it after being hired to do it. But if military personnel do it on military time, shouldn’t it belong to the military? Just like when I spent 29 years working for the state. It was clearly stated that if I designed a widget to make my work easier on company time, it belonged to the University I worked for, not me. Hell, I designed all kinds of TV and camera mounting systems, but they belong to the university, not me. So does the military get to hold a copyright on aircraft artwork?
  22. Steve, I remember that 💩 show. Big stirrup in the aftermarket too. No longer “Wright R-1820” radial engine on packaging. Just 1820 radial engine now. Tamiya got the permission for the F-16, but not the Thunderbirds apparently?
  23. So I guess they hired it out? Not military guys doing it? Interesting. Makes me wonder about the Shaw Viper demo plane now. Wasn’t the whole deal with the Tamiya 1/32 Thunderbird kit over the same thing? I had read somewhere that a private organization that supports the Thunderbirds group got a copyright on the paint schemes.
