  1. Well, at least it’s open… 😅 15 to go!
  2. Exactly, but leave some borders a little recessed so the grilles can rest on those borders and end up smoothly with the skin.
  3. 1 at a time, let’s see if it delivers 😅
  4. Not so happy yet with the appearance of the grilles on the engines. They would give a far better picture if they are open from underneath. Im going to take 1 off and try to make it open underneath to see the difference. At least somebody did it before… 🤔
  5. Dirty Harry in a slender sleek black Jet sounds like a different category 😂
  6. Acc Eduard instructions, the new photo etched grilles should be placed over the kits’ grilles, by filling them first with putty. However, they don’t align with the surface, and are just a little higher. I found this thread of another build where original grilles were cut out so that nee ones could be placed inside, and align with a smooth surface. Worth a shot? https://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/235027443-i-couldnt-resist-sr-71a-blackbird/page/2/
  7. The moment you discover that the front control stick is still tidy attached to the box with parts, and the canopy is glued in place … 🤦🏼‍♂️ Anyway, it could not have been seen after all so no big drama.
  8. And started with interior of the massive engines, thanks also by watching the techniques via this YouTube:
  9. Putting her a slender black primer dress on 🤩
  10. Phoenix is very appropriate in this resurrection!
  11. She will have gear down, front gear has to be installed but first to be modified. Main gears were already glued in strongly 30 years ago, so did not want to break those.
  12. Short update: both tails are on, and filled the gaps with putty. Also the canopies and the windscreen have been glued on, after being masked. The gaps around the canopies have also been filled with putty. Next is a first black primer to discover any deviations and correct where needed, before really doing the right color on the Bird.
  13. Found and used an old fin from my stash, corrected to fit. Just rescribing to get the right fit.
  14. The right tail fin misses a piece at the front, let’s see if we can correct this.
  15. Both engine bays re-attached. I thought I could correct the fit of especially the right engine bay, the fit is so terribly bad. Looks like I have to start filling differently, with stretched sprue and a lot of putty. Anyway, the Sled gets her shape back.
  16. And the repair joint for the right tail works and fits as well:
  17. Getting her back in shape: glueing the fuselage in several steps together again.
  18. Decided to build the Night Hawk version! I see the a little like a Phoenix, resembling the resurrection of the kit!
  19. Somewhere down the years, one of the tails and its connecting part to the engine got broken. Repaired with a new plastic part and two metal wire parts.
  20. Part for part glued back on place, stronger, tighter, better.
  21. Ah great… the version I intend to build didn’t have the OCB in the nose, hence on the Afterburner decals they advise just to cover the seems for this AND the 4 clear window parts that are shining now as ice cubes…
  22. Working on the star tracker. The opening has been enlarged, but still using the original piece as it can have a function of the internal lense that is inside. Trying to replicate this, and think it might work quite well. Just need to cover the interior with a black sheet so that the lense even stands out better.
  23. Phantoms need to be dirty, cos they were workhorses. You captured it! Wonder when the Greek would but this bird through the car wash 😅
