  1. I'd be interested in joining. Anyone know of a set of Iraqi MiG-21 decals in 1/48? I want to do one of their early aircraft. Percy

    Parafilm

i've found that the best way to work with Parafilm is to use multiple layers (2 to 3). In this way the paint will bond with the top layer, but leaving the bottom layer still soft. I then use a sharpened toothpick to start the removal but then it usually pulls up easily. A sharpened toothpick seems to work really well because it is sharp enough to pull up the Parafilm but soft enough it won't damage the plastic. Percy
  3. Ahh, momories of home... thanks Sean. :-) I've spent a lot of hours in those West Coast Air Twin Otters flying to and from Vancouver...
  4. Done! Thanks guys for hosting the GB, it's much appreciated! Percy
  5. Gary, it should be as simple as pressing the download button, but you have to have the Google Video player already downloaded and installed (link ususally included on the right side). When you download the video it downloads a small link that you double click to play. it then downloads the entire video into your "my documents\My Videos\Google Videos" folder. This video was about 81 meg. I also downloaded the P-47 training video... hehehe What shocked me was the difference in how the two planes stall. The P-47 is a nice gentle nose drop that the pilot easily recovers from, however the
  6. Thanks for the kind words guys, much appreciated. Now on to my second entry for the gb. :-) Percy
  7. Okay folks, I have finished my first of (hopefully) two subjects. This is the Italeri 1/48 HAP Tiger built OOB. I decided to paint it as the prototype in all black since it took less time than the 4 color camo French schemes. I didn't want to paint it solid black so I solicited help from a friend of mine and here was his suggestion: paint the model gloss black (I used Tamyia acrylic). Once this dries you can decal directly on top. Once done with the decalling add two drops of grey to the flat coat (yup, that's it, only 2 drops). When you spray the tinted flat coat it lightens the blac
  8. Wooohooo!!! I'm done! Here's a pic to prove it, and once I see this working I'll post more pics in the Finished GB thread. Percy
  9. I'm not sure if it's the same as the Heller kit, but it wouldn't surprize me at all. So far the fit has been reasonable with the only challenge area being the canopy. I've had to sand pretty much every seam but not much more than I would for a lot of kits (and I'm sure some of it is self-induced... :-) It's definitely not a Tamyia kit, or even a newer Hasegawa, but I'm not complaining too bad. Percy
  10. I'm not sure what scheme I'll do yet... I'm considering the overall black becuase it's fast, but I love the French multi-color schemes... It's mostly coming down to what I have for references. Percy
  11. And now a few more pics... The fuselage and most major components assembled and everything laid out neatly. I had painted the rotors white so I could paint the tips yellow before noticing that all reference pics show the main rotors as completely black. Oh well. :-) However the rear rotor tips are indeed red, while the blades themselves end up close to olive drab. Looking into the cockpit. I polished the canopy using Tamiya's polishing compounds (Course, Fine & Finish) and finshed off with Tamiya Modeling Wax and it is a thing of beauty... More to come as work continues... Perc
  12. Well it's been a long time in coming, but here are a few pics of my current group build. It's the Italeri 1/48 HAP Tigre. Some parts off the sprue and some basic painting done. The cockpit in progress. More pics to come... Percy
  13. I've had a VL for 10 years now and really like it. I find that I can do pretty much everything with it and it's almost bullet proof except for perhaps the tip. When I'm done a paint session I disassemble to the point of removing the needle and the tip and giving it a good cleaning with lacquer thinner. Other than that be very careful of the tip (especially the #1) as they will bend easily if not treated with care. I use the #3 needle almost exclusively as I find it's got a great range. I have done freehand camo with highly thinned Tamiya paint through the #1 needle and also sprayed metali
  14. Well being that love choppers and only have about 43 in my collection I should really enter... I'm going to start by doing: Italeri 1/48 HAP Tigre Testors 1/32 HH-43B Huskie If I can finish these two I'll see about digging into a few others. Percy
