  1. Sorry for the delay...No internet access for a few days. It's a single seater 'A' variant. Thank you

  3. Also, what color did you use for the main body?
  4. Wow! Incredible work. Would you happen to have a scan of the instructions? I started mine about 6 months ago, and it all came to a halt when I lost them. It's my first armor build and I was thoroughly enjoying it. Seeing yours makes me want to resume. Thanks
  5. Compared with pics of the real thing, the kit details are quite sparse. The instrument panels are outstanding but the tub and sidewalls are soft. Ordinarily I wouldn't sweat it, but with that big canopy so much is visible that I think it deserves the detail an aftermarket set would provide. Yes it is the easy way round but I've never been any good at scratch building.
  6. It occurred to me that age could be the case as I am using mostly paint which is several years old. I just figured oils had a longer shelf life. Thanks for the input. So is terpenoid what you guys use? If so, any particular brand ? I really do need to cut back on my 'flocculation'.
  7. Hi all Have any of you heard of plans for a resin cockpit set for the 1/48 Airfix Gnat? I saw that, I think it was Pavla has a 72nd set, so I assume there must be a 48th in the works. Just wondering if there had been an announcement by them or any other manufacturer that you've heard of. Thanks and happy modeling
  8. Oil washes used to work great for me for accenting panel lines and other detail. Well, after about a five year hiatus I'm using them again, and I'm not getting the results I once did. My method hasn't changed...a dollop of oil paint and add terpenoid till I have a coffee like mixture. I load up a brush and touch it to the clear coated detail. Two things are now happening that never did before: 1) I'm not getting a good wicking action, I have to, for the most part brush the entire panel line. 2) The wash itself has particles of, I assume paint once it's in the panel line. Any ideas where I'm go
  9. Normally I don't use any kind of clear coat on a natural metal finish. I swear by Alclad II, and decals will confirm to it very well with no clear coat. For masking, Tamiya tape works really well, but for me 3M Blue Vinyl tape can't be beat. It's very flexible, adheres well, and won't leave residue. I believe it comes in 1/2"-.25" sizes.
  10. Thanks. Got mine today and have been doing some heavy sprue fondling as well as some initial clean up of mold seams etc. This is a beautiful kit. I had no idea this one was even out there. As I said, I have the Airfix, HB and Italeri kits and was originally asking which was better. Turns out neither. Now that my LHS is gone I'm not privy to all the talk and gossip of new releases and the like, which is why I value input from my fellow ARC members more than ever. I'm thinking of doing a WIP with this to put some pressure on me to actually build. Haven't actually completed a build since my wife
  11. And if that explanation fails, it is not extra work, instead it is the complimentary skill improvement :rolleyes:/> I like that
  12. I want to do a desert pink scheme as well. Built Hasegawa's 72nd years ago and used Humbrol with good results. I read that all of the main landing gear are split down the middle? Wonder what reason RG could have for doing that. Sounds like a lot of extra work unnecessarily.
  13. I knew you guys would know the scoop. Had no idea that kit existed. Thanks for the input. Heading to HobbyTown tomorrow for some supplies, so hopefully they'll have one in stock. If not, I'm sure Sprue Bros will hook me up. Thanks again.
  14. Sorry if this is a tired, dead horse subject, but I value input from my fellow ARCers, and am looking for opinions on which kit to go with for a Tornado build. I have the Italeri IDS and ECR, as well as the Hobby Boss IDS kits in my stash, but I'm willing to buy another if there's a better kit out there. I know there are a lot of parameters when talking about "the best kit", but overall what do you think? Thanks and happy modeling
  15. I have ordered some MEK and Plast-I-Weld. Thanks to all for the suggestions. I'm going to look into Weld On 3 as well. In my experience, Tenax dries too fast, and Plastruct doesn't melt the plastic as well as Ambroid. In the meantime I have been using some Mr. Hobby Mr. Cement Deluxe which I had on my workbench. I have been very impressed with it. It gives the good ooze of styrene at the join that I liked about Ambroid. Tamiya Extra Thin Cement is a distant 2nd.
  16. Ok. Thank you. I'm about to order some. That's one of my favorite things in modeling when I'm gluing a joint and I get a good ooze of styrene. Best 'filler' there is. Ambroid was always the best for that. Thanks again.
  17. Air-Craft...I ordered some Plast-I-Weld. Thanks.
  18. That's a different look...Does it 'melt' the styrene enough to where melted styrene oozes between joins? That's what Ambroid did well. Tenax and Plastruct seem like they dry to quickly.
  19. Ah. This is one I have never tried. I'll check it out. Thanks.
  20. I live in Georgia, and in the summer the humidity is awful. I have used my oven for drying models for years. Works great for me. Besides good temp and low humidity there's very little dust motes etc floating around. After painting or varnishing I put the model in a shallow Tupperware container, pop it in the oven and shut the door. Just don't forget it's in there and have your wife bake it.
  21. Ambroid Pro Weld liquid cement has been my go-to glue for years. To me no other liquid cement comes close, and I'm down to what little is left in my last bottle. It seems to have completely vanished from availability. Does anyone know what the deal is? Or better, know where I can get some? Thanks
  22. Hi all I posted this over in the Spares Forum but figured this forum would improve my chances. I would prefer Hasegawa, but anything will do. I can sell or trade. I have quite a bit of 1/48 ordinance if there's anything you need. Thanks and happy modeling !
  23. If so I want to compare notes with you. In particular I'm not sure how much casting block to remove from the part on top of the fuselage. Instructions are fuzzy on this, and I don't know if I should remove the entire stub or leave a lip. Thanks in advance Cheers!
  24. shadoweng-Are you ready to ship the box? I guess just send it to whoever is closer to you between me and WilliamG.
  25. Whether it's from a Japanese or Eastern Bloc company, I've always enjoyed it when the translations in kit or detail set instructions go awry. Here's the best I've ever seen. It's the description of the Hyper Cut razor saw from the Japanese company Hobby Search (Which I highly recommend checking out if you never have). - Cut and stripes carved tiny member, member of the fine that was not possible until now become possible, Usage has spread to much. I made it possible to cut surface until clean cut. - 0.1mm in 0.1mm width is also the same as the thickness of the saw cut width, cut the dressi
