  1. Hi, With the 1/144 sheet being on the horizon as well, I bought a new Academy B-47. This boxing carries serial 12618 and is titled "306th BW(M)". To my surprise, there is an extra sprue in there with parts for an RB-47H. Do any of our RB-47 specialists have an Academy kit with these parts? I'm curious about what they think about these parts. In particular, I'm wondering about the nose. In my mind, the RB-47 had a longer and more bulbous nose. The Academy RB-47 part is more bulbous, but hardly any longer (I think, not having cut them from the sprue yet).
  2. Hi, Glad to see it's still on. I have the conversion set to build an F4H-1. By a strange coincidence, I had been thinking about this one yesterday, just before I saw Dutch's inquiry. Cheers, Stefan.
  3. Hi, Yeah, struck me as a bit odd as well, but I carefully cleaned up the parts and they went together quite well. I haven't had much modeling time recently, but I did see this announced om Britmodeller SH32082 AH-1G Cobra ‘Early Tails over Vietnam’ Hi-Tech Kit 1/32 - rendery Hi-Tech obsahu (specialhobby.net) It's a reboxing of the ICM Cobra by Special Hobby with all sorts of update parts. Lots of stuff that has been discussed earlier in this thread, like the HUD, the XM-158's and the minigun. I think better looking hoses for the ECS too. I obviously ha
  4. Hi, Now that I may have given some of you the bright idea to replace the minigun in the nose turret with the Master set for the Vulcan, I must warn you. It was simply beyond my ability to assemble that. The parts are really beautiful, but I just couldn't get them alligned and into the tiny round bits with six holes in them. Cheers, Stefan.
  5. Hi, Dutch. I know...Paul Fisher and I are FB friends. I have the Fisher set. That's a lot of bottles! I take it that the 15 KS-1000 bottles are bigger and that there are fewer of them. I'll have to look into how they are arranged on the B-47. Cheers, Stefan.
  6. Hi, Kursad. Are these the ones that are in the Fisher B-47 JATO bottle horse rack set? I don't know of any other 1/72 JATO bottles. A 1/144 version of this sheet would also be very welcome for me. Cheers, Stefan.
  7. Hi, On tuesday, I had the opportunity to visit a model store. I looked at the Master barrels for my minigun in the chin turret. They don't do miniguns, but I bought the M61 Vulcan set in 1/72 (AM-72-039) and in 1/48 (AM-48-037). In both scales, these barrels are a bit too long, but I believe it is possible to install them further in the turret so that only an appropriate length of barrel is visible. Back home, I checked the diameter against the ICM part and I found that the 1/72 set will provide the best match. I will post a picture once I get it assembled.
  8. Hi, I'd also love to have the USMC A-4's and F-4's in 1/72. Hobby 2000 has been re-releasing the Fujimi Skyhawks and I'd love to put AOA decals on them. Cheers, Stefan.
  9. Hi, Interesting picture indeed. Andrew, I (obviously) agree that we know they left Oceana with the flag design and came back with the black tails. The exact time of the change-over is a bit unclear, but my gut feeling says it happened over a period of time during the cruise. However, if it's Subic Bay, it does not neccesarily have to be May or June 1965. I'm sure you know this as well as I do, but the time of the cruise did not involve continuous time "on the line". There were periods in port, Subic Bay is very close by but even port visits to Hong Kong were
  10. Hi, Ray and Rob, thanks for the info. I'm not sure how I'm going to handle this on my model, but it's good to know. 11bee, I find some of the armament a bit underwhelming. Rob mentioned the XM-158 rocket pods in the first post in this thread. The other rocket pods are pretty decent. The 7 exposed tubes of the XM-158's should be separate tubes in this scale. While I'm happy that we get the choice of chin turrets with one or two apertures, I'm not too happy with the miniguns. The tips of the barrels are very poorly defined. It almost looks like
  11. Thanks, Kursad. That IOSS scheme sounds promising, I hope it goes well. This B-47 sheet is once again pure awesomeness from Caracal. Cheers, Stefan.
  12. Thank you very much, Ray. It's a good thing that I mentioned it here before I started cutting. Another thing makes sense to me now: I had seen that such a part (although smaller than in the ICM kit) was present in the Revell AH-1G. That one does not have the vent on the port side. I figured that the Revell researchers might have looked at different Cobra's and mixed features. I did a test by spraying thinned Tamiya X23 clear blue on the inside of a spare canopy. From a distance it looks pretty cool, but it isn't easy getting an even layer on the inside. So,
  13. Hi, This is part A5 from the kit. I believe that the bit that I circled in yellow is part of the ECU. As I'm building an early Cobra without the ECU, I'm going to remove it. Cheers, Stefan.
  14. Hi, This is going to be another awesome package from Caracal. Kursad, As we are now past the 1st of July and the new rules are in force in the EU, do you plan to continue to sell directly to customers in the EU? I believe you had to stop selling directly to UK customers when they got their new rules earlier this year. I have received a package from the USA after the 1st of July...I had to pay, but that was always a possibility. Cheers, Stefan.
  15. Thanks, Ray. I'm not a smoker myself, but I find it quite interesting that the AH-1G came with a built-in ashtray. It's a bit like all the smoking that can be seen in the movie "Once upon a time in Hollywood". Cheers, Stefan.
  16. Hi, I think you'd be OK with the Academy kit. There may be some detail differences in the cockpit, but I don't know as cockpits aren't really my thing. I do not think that the cockpit of a late "B" differs substantially from an "N". Nothing as obvious as the large square PTID that was in late F-14B's. If you want a really super awesome F-4N, you could wait for what Hypersonic Models makes to convert the Tamiya F-4B. I gather that Jeffrey (Hypersonic) is looking at making such a set. He found that the Academy intake antenna's are lacking in length and could be better sha
  17. Hi, Bill. I don't have one (yet), but I believe that parts 7 and 8 on this sprue have this fairing. Top of the sprue, just left of the middle. sprue5.jpg (1024×768) (britmodeller.com) I gather that there are many alternate parts in the box, just not the ones for the Falklands version. Cheers, Stefan.
  18. Looks nice, Floyd. I had been planning to do almost the same as you: a first build that pretty close to out of the box and some with more aftermarket later on. I also picked the Playboys decal option from Fireball Modelworks for the first one. I'm planning to use 4 XM-200 rocket pods and the bunny with the black background...and ignore that there are no rivets on the underside of the tailboom. I'll do some experimenting with Tamiya X-23 on a spare canopy for the blue glass look. Cheers, Stefan.
  19. Hi, I forgot about the ECM antenna's on the underside. I believe you should leave off Tamiya parts N30, N31, N33 and N34. So, don't open up the holes for them either (step 16 in the Tamiya instructions). Here is an incredible source of infomation about the evolution of the ECM fit on Navy Phantoms: The Phantom Phacts: EW Luckily for the VF-84 builders, 1965 wasn't that complicated.🙂 This also affects the tailcone. The kit instructions use part B6 which has subtle representations of antenna's. Part B5 has no such things, but the hole in B5 is shaped a bit d
  20. Hi, Bernie. Good to hear from you! So weird to think that the 2019 show in Antwerp was the last one for a couple of years. If they have one in 2022 and I'm still around, I'll be there. I've glued these doors shut on a couple of Academy kits. Cheers, Stefan.
  21. Thanks for the info, Jeffrey. Good that I haven't started cutting up my part B2 yet.😄 Cheers, Stefan.
  22. Hi, Jeffrey. I think I saw somewhere that you were looking into what could be done about part B2 so that something other than attaching the centerline tank could be done. Would you consider something that allows us to have the hatches around that attachment point closed? It's all very lovely what Tamiya gave us with parts A1, A10, B1, B2, B3 and B4, but I think that these are closed when the engines aren't running. I'll definitely build at least one in a "engines running" configuration, but I'd also like one without pilots in it, canopies open and the ladder down. I'
  23. Hi, For a 1965 VF-84 B-model (and the decals that I'm aware of are for 64-65), you need a "slick" cap for the tail, Mk 5 seats and leave off the antenna's on the spine. I test-fitted the Academy fin cap: the length is perfect, but it is at least twice as wide as the Tamiya fin cap. Luckily, there are aftermarket caps (Flying Leathernecks). I'd use Tamiya parts P26-27 under the radome. I think that's the right shape, although I believe that the real contents of that housing were not the same in 1972 as in 1965. Use the unslotted stabs. Do not install the trunni
  24. Hi, The ICM AH-1G arrived here last week. I'm very happy with it. There is some awesome knowledge and skills here. I'm not that much of an expert, but I have been interested in the AH-1G for a couple of decades. I have the Revell kit and the Cobra Comany upgrades and Werner's Wings vac-form canopy. The ICM kit may help me get started on building a couple of Cobra's...with all the rare and no longer obtainable bits, I was always a bit hesitant to start building. The "not much of an expert" bit is not false modesty, until I saw this thread I had no idea about the blue
