This is FANTASTIC! Thanks sharing this. The bad part is that you are motivating me to build this kit, which I really don't want to :).

Sorry to hear about your loss. I flew with VP 17 from 1990-1993, I never found decals for them. I looked!!

Hi,
basically the kit goes together well. There are just a few things to watch out:
- Main Landing gear: The legs are slightly "toed in" if installed as is. You can try to bend them into the correct position.
- Cockpit: A bit simplified (and not entirely correct?). Red Star has announced a replacement as a future release (or you build the canopy closed and don't worry about it).
- Exhaust: Extremely simplified compared to the real thing. Red Star resin item is almost a must.
- Nose/Shock cone: The diameter is too big at the back and blocks basically the whole intake. It is not really visible as long you don't look down the intake.
Well, that were my observations. Experts may find more but I was otherwise pleased with the kit. Definitely one of the better efforts of Trumpeter.
Cheers
Markus
Thanks Markus

As anyone built one of these? And if so, how was it. Seems like that kit has been under the radar.

That's fantastic! What do you use for the base in your photos? It really looks like an airfield tarmac.
Particle board that I painted. Thanks for the comment and question.

AS a former 144th viper crew chief (84-316)I dig it!! I am sure General Flaugher (Ret) would dig it too.

Nice build, really like the scheme you chose.

I keep waiting for Hans-Ulrich Rudel to come walking into the scene to climb aboard. Well done! As an aside, how did you find the kit? I have been really into 1/32 lately and the Stuka is on my list of "wants". Great work again!
:cheers:/>
Don
Hi Don,
Thanks for taking the time to write. I got the kit on Ebay.

Dang! Besides being a nice model and paint scheme, the photos add almost perfect realism to the scene.
The only thing that caught my eye was the antenna wire, seems a little thick and bows upward toward the mast.
Second look, nighttime exhausts look too clean and uniform in color. I see some subtle weathering here but I think more is needed.
Thanks for your reply and copy all.

I don't know if I have the adjectives for this. Truly this is one of the best I have seen in any scale! Your patience to stay with this project is admirable. One question, what did you use for your exterior wash? Again this is amazing. Thanks for sharing.
