  1. She's looking good! A bit wrinkleybut aren't we all that were born in the 50's!

A Lt. pilot and I were talking the other day and he said the B-52 was big. I told him

when we'd we'd fly into Guam and park the C-5 you could watch the old D model

BUFF's roll down the runway in a cloud of black smoke and disappear off the cliff

to be seen a minute or so later climbing up to go fly. When my dad was at Edwards

when I was a young guy I'd watch the B-52 taxi out with the X-15 under it's wing.

  2. Happy 4th of July! Today is the anniversary of the Israeli Air Force raid

on Entebbe to rescue the hostages of the hijacked Air France airliner.

The C-130's finest hour! Probably less than a year later I was parked

on that same ramp in Nairobi, Kenya to offload 8 brand new F-5E

Tiger II fighters the Kenyan AF bought.

    Cheers...Ron

  3. I vote for a AC-130E as well...20mm x 2 / 40mm x 1/ 105mm x 1

In the SEA paint assigned to the 16th SOS in Thailand. Or...overall

gunship gray at Hurlburt Field, Fl.

The J gunship is pretty cool though. I walked through one here at

    Kirtland.

  4. It's not called FLIR anymore....now it's IDS (Infared Detection Set). The MC/HC-J carry the

one that's on the predator drone. Also has a laser in it to mark targets. It was called FLIR

    when I flew legacy MC's.

    Cheers...Ron

  5. Got the Talon guide you sent. It was awesome! We have 64-0559 here at Kirtland.

The bottle nose T1's were with the 1st SOS at Kadena when I was out there (1993-1996)

before they converted to the MC-130H.

The flight deck does have the FE seat between the pilots and 2 Navigators sat side by side

on the right side of the flight deck. The bunks were removed. In the cargo compartment

up front by the bulkhead (FS 245) was where the radio operator and electronic warfare

officer sat. Facing forward and they had a black curtain they could pull around them so

it would keep  the light down from the equipment and keep people from seeing what was

going on. The FLIR ball was behind the nose gear and was retracted up into the fuselage

before the gear went down! The hole was covered by the aft nose gear door.

They served their country with honor!

    Thanks again for the guide!

    Cheers...Ron
