  1. It wouldn't like as bad if the OP hadn't gone back after the fact and edited his post to correct 163 to 134! If I were you, I'd go back and edit your post into a random cat fact.
  2. Understand about the memory being the first thing to go. Seems to be happening to me too. Much rather have my memory shrivel first. To further the discussion. I got the AH-1S diagram I was looking for (see diagram below). The vent on the port hyd comp door is listed an outlet for the ECU. Same as the AH-1J, T, W. Point is that vent was added when the ECU was added. I don't know when the ECU was added but when was the Revell kit made? 1968? I've seen plenty of AH-1G pictures without the vent (see picture below). Perhaps Revell's feature (or lack of) is correct for that era. As Fl
  3. The hole on the front of the doghouse on an AH-1G is for vent ram air for the cockpit. The hole on the front of the doghouse on an AH-1J, AH-1T, AH-1W, and even an AH-1Z is for vent ram air for the cockpit (and is technically part of the ECU system although the majority of the ECU itself does resides in the hydraulic compartment). I find it very odd that the hole on the front of the doghouse on an AH-1S is not vent ram air.
  4. That wasn't one of the pieces done by Charles Butler. I had his AH-1Z pieces and referenced them for the shape/dimensions but I started over on that particular piece. The shape of the bottom was correct - bounced off drawings and measurements from the actual aircraft. It is almost symetrical with the top. The Archer rivets sized almost right on with the kit ones and went on easily. I just should've spent more time smoothing the whole thing before I put them on. It was designed so that the kit exhaust stacks fit inside the shrouds. Or if you have the Eudard set you could use those.
  5. I've posted a bunch of pictures of the tri-color scheme. I can't post a link but google "HH with Fireball decals." (include the quotes). It should be the only link that comes up. If that doesn't work PM me.

  7. Two things up front before I enter another contest: 1) Welcome aboard LCpl Underground! You are correct - the Italeri 1/48 is definately the best out of the box. 2) There may be a newer AFV boxing but the AFV boxing I have is not NTS. The only NTS I've seen is the pseudo NTS from Academy - the later boxing with the boxart of the Cobra with the Snake along the sides. Good point. I was somewhat embarassed to read that thread. However, I've lost the ability to edit my own posts (maybe because of posts like that) so that is how it stands and I still stand by it. Lucky for you guys I don'
  8. I personally know of a couple of cases in UH-1Ns where they have worked. I recall one UH-1N being brought down by wires in France in the late 80s but I think it was before the WSPS was installed. True story Cleveland National Forest just north of Camp Pendleton CA in the mid 1990s IIRC. A UH-1N was doing recon with the doors off and some grunt observers in the back. There was a grunt LT sitting by one of the doors. A wire hits the windshield breaks it and then goes up and hits the wire cutter and snaps. The loose end of the wire slaps the Lt on the thigh and wraps around his leg a time o
  9. This happens to me from time to time. Make sure your address bar says: http://www.aircraftresourcecenter.com and not: http://www.aircraftresourcecenter.com/new
  10. Isn't the Italeri 1/48 AH-1W kit basically a conversion of their AH-1T kit and just as available?
  11. Thanks for all of the photos Ray. Would love to see some pics of the AH-1T at the Mid-America Air Museum in Liberal, Kansas. I didn't know any Ts survived (without being made Ws). Wonder if it is a maintenance trainer?
  12. Does it have the flatplate canopy too? I heard several years ago that AMARC was getting rid of their AH-1Js. If true and you could get a hold of one that would be a good source for a nose, blades, canopy, etc). None of the noses I've seen on the civilian Cobra (USFS and WA DNR) look like the original.
  13. AH-1J and AH-1T have the same mainbody (forward fuselage) except AH-1T has an extension (12"?) right behind the canopy. AH-1T and AH-1W have the same tail and mainrotor. AH-1T nose could look like AH-1J or AH-1W depending on if sight is equipped. Stubwings ends are different on all three. Biggest difference between an AH-1T and an AH-1W is different intake and exhaust and the AH-1W foward fuselage is wider (buldged) around the ammo bay. Not many walkarounds of AH-1Ts so use AH-1J walkarounds for front half (main fuselage) and interior and use AH-1W walkarounds for tail and rotors.
  14. Ran across this old post and couldn't help but laugh. Gave up on the block of wood and a dull knife huh Joseph?
  15. She's got the look! Seriously, I hate how the basic kit gives you an empty cavity. That and the typical helo kit flaw of no tranny. Think WWII prop kits could get by without adding a radial engine face behind the prop? Why is it that most helo kits don't have transmissions? Anyway just noticed I've flooded the entire front page. I'll be quiet for awhile unless I have something substancial to add
