2 x 1/48 Caldwell Spitfires (Mk VIII and Vb trop)
jrallman replied to Andrew Doppel's topic in The Spitfire Group Build
no problem at all, just keeps the GB forum a bit cleaner and makes it much easier for someone looking at your build in the finished gallery to go back and see your full work all in one place rather than have to jump from one thread to another to see the full build. Thanks and great work! -
Hi all! I am very glad to see the progress in this GB and some of the amazing builds that we are getting. Three quick notes about finishing your builds, two of which are in the GB rules and are just repeated here, the third is just something that has come up. 1. When you are finished with your build, we, the moderators, will place your build in the finished gallery. The gallery is an intentionally closed thread so that it will contain only the visual display of your finished work. For discussions and compliments, use the original build thread for each build, which is linked from the gall

I dont know specifically about Wildcats, but a few pics in some books at home of other planes also had the crosses on top of the wings.

I took my boys to see them last summer when they came to Pittsburgh. Awesome to see, and for my kids they were like 65 year old historical jundle gyms! My oldest was 4 then and loved pretending to be a waist gunner.

most likely your scheme will be RLM 74 and RLM 75 on top and RLM 76 on bottom, but as Dave said, it does depend on which scheme you are doing.

Another rendition of their Fw 190 was planned from the beginning. They plan to release a Dora later this year. That shouldn't change their plans for a MiG or Phantom.

These aren't for the 1/72 109E, but I think it is still nice to see these pipes on a model, because they sure do look nice!

Gotta have a buddy for my Hellcat!

I am venturing a guess that the canopy is still masked and that it is not blacked out but just painted over the masking, and that the prop is not on because he was painting and didnt want to get blue on the prop. Just a guess. -
I have found that fit depends on the model you are building. For example, on my I-16s, the exhaust pipes come out from the cowl, so it doesnt matter what the pipe looks like inside the cowl. However, on my Bf 110, the exhaust pipes sit in the recess normally used for the kit exhausts, so some trimming was required because the stub attachement for the moskit exhausts was way too large to fit into the recess on the kit. I used a dremmel with a very thin cutoff wheel, carefully pressed the exhausts into blu tac with just the part I wanted to cut off sticking out, then slowly bit by bit cut off

Already responded to this in a PM, but as a general note to anyone, you can change or alter your planned build at any time. This thread is more to just let each other know what you wanna do so we can drum up discussion as need be, not to have each build set in stone. As long as you have time to build it, you can enter what you like that fits the build criteria. Thanks!

fantastic look, nothing more realistic than actual metal. I grabbed as many as I could find when they were going out of business but even then I wasn't able to get too many sets.

I'll throw down a second for the Pro Modeller washes. I am really bad at both oil and acrylic washes, never turned out right, but the Pro Modeller washes looks good every time, are really easy to wipe up with a damp paper towel or qtip, and if I screw up, just wipe it clean and go again.

Back to the Future

From the information I have been able to gather, it looks like the Black Sheep island hopped from one base to the next as they advanced across the Pacific. It wasn't until late '44 into '45 that they were carrier based, but this would have been after Boyington had been shot down and captured. Looks like, absent evidence to the contrary, that his plane would not qualify for this GB.
-
Still listed as "coming soon"
-
I think based on that we would need to find a bit more conclusive evidence that the plane being built flew off a carrier before it would qualify
-
Fixed. FYI to all, to avoid these issues, please put all information about your build that you want to be included in the gallery into your build thread. If it isnt in the build thread, we can't put it in the gallery.
