  1. Well folks, I've finally got this guy back on the bench after finishing off several 48th scale TA-4J and F-5F adversaries. The wings are together, and in the process of having the lost panel lines rescribed. Tonight I'm hoping to have time to sand the fuselage down more and get the wings on. I did spray some black paint on the seams to highlight any imperfections, found many that needed attention. I had a real bad problem with "ghost seams" along the windows, but have hopefully addressed that problem. The next one of these that I build I will definitely use super glue only on those troublesome
  2. What a beauty! Great work! I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with your EC-135 😉 Fred.
  3. Thanks Thadeus! I would agree completely.... it's hard to beat an F-5 in an aggressor scheme 👍 Fred.
  4. Awhile back I had Greg at Gatorzmask cut some masks for me using the Twobobs instruction sheet as a pattern. Two of the three masks are show in the pic. The last time I looked at his site, it was for sale, so I don't think he's in business anymore. However, an alternative can be found here: http://www.advmodprds.com/am48-319.html I just picked up a bunch of these masks from owner Jim yesterday, who just happens to live only a few miles away. How handy is that?! All for now, Fred.
  5. So here's the decals that I'll be using. Fred.
  6. Thanks Thadeus! That kit goes together so well that I should have the first one ready for paint in a few days 👍. Regards, Fred.
  7. Cool video Jeff, thanks! Some good ref's on helmet colors too. Thanks, Fred.
  8. Here's the aftermarket that I'll be using on these builds (pic 1). I will replace the heads of the resin Aerobunus seated pilots with those from a Hasegawa F-16, as the Aerobunus figures show the faces of the pilots, and for jets about to launch from a hot and sunny runway, they need their visors down. Admittedly I don't know much about helmets, and the time frames that they were used. I'm assuming that the heads supplied with the Hasegawa F-16 kit would be correct for a 2005 era Tiger? Does anyone know for sure? I'll also be using the Quickboost auxiliary air intakes. The kits co
  9. So here's kit number two: This one is going to be built using one of the now very old Twobobs sheets that I helped provide references for some 20 years ago. That's how long I've had this Tiger on my "to build" list 🤣 Having most of the landing gear doors closed, and airbrakes tucked up into the fuselage for take off will help simplify the complex masking job that awaits me on this build. This version of the AFV F-5E is a great version to pick up if you can find it. You can build any version of the E from this kit, except for a few minor cockpit variations. Externally it has everyth
  10. So here's the first kit that I'll be using in this build. I have actually already started both kits last year, so the kits pictured are from my stash. This is just to give you an idea of what I'm starting with. The first kit is the Sundowners version, which has the duckbill nose cone, and wing root leading edge extensions (LEXs) of a later built or upgraded F-5E (pic 1). All of the first two groups of Navy F-5Es and Fs had the round nose cone and no wing root LEXs when first delivered in the mid-70's, but upon going through depot level maintenance in the early 1980's, all came back with the du
  11. Hi everyone, Well now that my long term "Adversary Twins" build thread is complete, I've decided to tackle two more adversaries: two VFC-13 Saints F-5Es. To make things a bit more interesting, They're going to be configured for take off, and placed on a very cool base that my buddy Tony made for me last year. Here's a pic of the base with two of my previously finished Saints F-5s on it. The base is a copy of the take off end of NAS Fallon's runway 31L, which is the main runway there. I had wanted to build a pair of the AFV Tiger kits in take off mode for some time, but I had original
  12. You're correct Bill..... 761578 is indeed an F-5N. I plan on doing two F-5Es. There seems to be some interest, so I'll go ahead and do an "In Progress" thread. I'll get on that this weekend, and will post some pics of the two Tigers that I'm going to build. Take care, Fred.
  13. Hi Dutch, I'm on a roll with the 48th scale aggressors, so I'm going to keep it going while I have the mojo. I still have 2 AFV F-5E's, 2 Hasegawa F-16's, a Hasegawa F-15C, and a Kinetic CF-5D under construction. I'd like to whittle these numbers down a little more before I start an entirely new project. Also, fishing season is coming up rapidly, and my bench time will drop considerably. I just don't have nearly enough free time to do all of the fun stuff that I want to do! I know, cry you a river, right?? 😆 However, inspiration has stuck, and I have decided to buil
  14. Thanks for your kind comments everyone! On to my next project..... 😄 Fred.
  15. Alright guys.... I'm calling this one done! I took some outdoor pics, but they look awful, so these indoor on the bench shots will have to do. I used a pair of Pavla resin seats on this second build, and I suspect that they are just a tiny bit oversized. I had to file down the sides of the seats to get them to fit, and it looks like they're just a bit too tall. If I use them again in the future I'll have to remember to cut and file them down a bit before I paint them. I was worried that the grey would be too dark, but the Testors dullcote knocked it down considerably, and I'm quite happy with
  16. Hi everyone, I got the decals on last night. The Fightertown decals went down beautifully as expected. I'm hoping to finish it off in the next day or two. Fred.
  17. Hi Bill, Yeah, it's always hard to tell colors from a picture, and the one that I posted of this jet wasn't the best lit. The decals called for 30117 for the brown, so I went with it. I did knock it down a bit with some camo grey though. I'm happy with it. Take care, Fred.
  18. Great job! I always enjoy seeing these not often built subjects, and especially done to this level. Beautiful work 👍 Fred.
  19. For me it would be AFV's 1/48th F-5E/F kit. They build up quite nicely, and quickly too with few difficulties. I've built 10 already, and have 2 more going now, plus 14 in my stash. I also like Hasegawa's 48th A-4's. It not the easiest kit to build up, but looks great when done. I've built 9 of them, and am painting number 10 now. I also have 13 more in my stash. It's true... I love aggressors 😂 Fred K.
  20. I've been waiting patiently for a new tool 72nd F-5E/F for decades. All hopes of the Dream Model kit being it were quickly dashed when it became apparent that it was nothing more than a poorly done cash grab before the Wolfpack kit shows up. No doubt the Wolfpack kit will be excellent. I hope we see it very soon! Fred K.
  21. There you go.... problem solved! Fred.
