  1. The most obvious mistake of Hobbyboss MiG-17F, is the wrong shaped windshield and its frame, just same as many other Trumpeter/hobbyboss aircraft model kits.

Please refer to below photos(copyrights of original authors), and I believe it is quite obvious for anyone's eyes.

One of my friend Keigi who passed away last year, built HB MiG-17F back to 2009.

You can also find other minor errors from his modification trace on pictures.

Unfortunately he was not able to rebuild the windshield at the time being, but it was well acknowledged by many Chinese modelers, since we have tons of J-5s in China which is one of the most familiar fighter to us since childhood. 🙂

    Just my 2 cents.

  2. Hello everyone

It has been a while since my last post.
This work I want to present to you, was finished during Shanghai lock down in 2022.
Although the number of works completed in last year is only two, which is the lowest score in terms of quantity, I am now comforting myself with the two works that I am very satisfied with in terms of quality.

One of them is this "Downed Bald Eagle" F-16CG Block 40 US Air Force 555th FS Commander's plane.

The base kit is Tamiya's 1/48 F-16C/N "Aggressor", modified to Block 40 F-16CG.
Aftermarket parts include Fabscale's F110 nozzle, Orange Hobby's metal and resin AIM-120B missile, Eduard's resin GBU-24 bomb, AN/ALQ-131, AN/AAQ-13 and AN/AAQ-14 pods, Master metal dischargers.
The AIM-9L "Sidewinder" missile is by AMK parts.

Well, the key feature of this work is the background and its history.
-Reproduced the aircraft of Mr. David Goldfine, commander of the 555th Regiment of the US Air Force stationed at Aviano, Italy, which was shot down in "Operation Allied Force" on May 2, 1999.
He was rescued immediately after being shot down, and after that he was able to rise to the rank of 4-star general.

The mounted armament is the position at the time of the mission that was shot down(not quite sure since I did not find exact reference from Internet), and the painting is also based on the advice of a former 555th regiment official, recreating the moment of the last takeoff before being shot down.

Another interesting thing was that a friend in Serbia sent me some of the wreckage of this plane, so I custom-ordered a wooden base and exhibited it together with the work.
I am very grateful to him for his kindness.

By the way, the wreckage of this shot down aircraft is still exhibited in the museum in Belgrade, the capital of the Republic of Serbia.

For modelers, it was a great blessing to be able to make friends on both the American side and the Serbian side through modeling.
That may be the true charm of scale models.

    Thank you for watching.

No, GWH is wrong in its dimension in terms of length and wingspan. The B-52H's fuselage was extended rearward after the phase IV upgrade program by 1m. Look at the diagram below.

    B-52H_upgrade.png.4410f6b65c849bcb9ce4e8a230ceaf8b.png

Then, the correct fuselage length of B-52H in the 144 scales would be around (48(fuselage length prior to Phase IV upgrade)m+1m)/144 = 34cm, which is closer to the Academy's.

Also, the GWH kit's wingspan is longer than it should be. The nominal wingspan you find on the web, 56m, i.e., 38.9cm in the 144 scales, is for the flight position. In the landing position, the wingspan is shorter than the value since the wings are drooped (This video shows how the wings move upward as the bomber takes off.). The GWH kit's wingspan is about 39cm, and the Academy's wingspan is shorter than that by about 1cm. Both kits depict the bomber in the landing position.

There are more issues with the GWH kit, including incorrect details in the front landing gear bay and the fuselage shape. All the problems are also present in the Modelcollect's 1/72 scale kit, from which the GWH kit was significantly affected for some reason.

    Thanks for explanation.

I simply compared the kit size with data from Wikipedia, and found GWH kit size is closer to the data in 144 scale.

The academy kit has longer fuselage and wider wingspan compared with GWH, so I though its scale is wrong(according to Wiki data).

Or maybe the Wikipedia data could be wrong......
