  1. Hmm. USUALLY, the 4xx nose number squadron is trimmed in orange, but that may be the standard in the gray/white era. Might want to check with Furball on that.
  2. Oooh, I think I just wet my pants a little there!
  3. Saw somewhere that it is scheduled for 2016, but not a month. I would say with the photos of test shots and boxtops, it should be close. Let's take bets: my money is on February.
  4. Hmm. I wonder if it will come with an S in the name on the box.
  5. I should think that trying to "scale down" a full-size "metallic" paint to any model scale would be either noticeably out of scale or unnoticeable.
  6. A suggestion: How about several red-and-white stripes decal strips for the pitot boom? There may have been different types (as they were on the F-102) with varying pitch or possibly barber-pole types as well. They would be a nice bonus to any sheet.
  7. Nope. I followed the color profile in Squad/Sig's Century Series book. Yeah, I know, it might be in error, but I like it.
  8. Here's the Hase rebox with the 318th markings modified slightly. I wanted to do the one with the commander's (?) stripes on it and changed the serial.
  9. Major drool! Wet spill in aisle 72!!

No matter what version you need, you're best to start with the Hasegawa kit. It is the best in the scale. Yes, you'll have to make some mods to it as it is nominally an AD-6 out of the box, but then so are the other brands' kits. Might as well use the best.
  11. I like what I'm seeing there and am surprised at the close coupling of the announcement and the sprue shots. I think that means that we should see the kit available shortly. Can't wait!
  12. Not sure that it fixes the fin shape though. Still waiting for kit manufacturers to see the light.
  13. I used Floquil Reefer Orange (overcoated with gloss) as well. The X-1 in the late '40s was definitely NOT international orange (that's too red). I describe the X-1 orange as being "pumpkin orange." Any orange will look good/brighter/more intense in daylight/strobe, as it does here. All 1/72 (Tamiya and Special Hobby):
  14. I would be very interested to know: How many of the 1/48 XB-70 kits are produced. How many get sold. How many of those that get sold actually get built.
  15. Not sure, but believe it was a McDoug invention and first applied to the early F-15s. May have just been a case of making the insignia look more modern, and some of the stickers were applied to F-4s. Don't know of any other types that got 'em.
  16. Ikar, whose 1/72 conversion did you use? RVHP? Maintrack?
  17. I don't know if they ever corrected it. It was, as you said, too long and pointy at the front end. Pat Hawkey did his own fix for it, but it was difficult. Is C&H still in business? Who would carry their conversions?
  18. I believe the old C&H conversion is proportionally challenged. It would be nice to see a new Tub conversion -- in both scales!
  19. It should be, but I'm not up on the latest regs.
  20. Cheesus, people! Just build and enjoy! Is this a model-building hobby or an "I know better than you" beeotch session?
  21. A lot of "fighters" were designed for one purpose, but morphed into others. The F-100 was designed to be an air superiority fighter, like its predecessor, the F-86. The F-101 was originally going to be a long-range bomber escort (A and C models), but quickly changed to reconnaissance (RF-101A/C/G/H) and interceptor (F-101B/F). The F-102 and F-106 were designed and served as all-weather bomber interceptor. The F-104 was designed to be a short-range super-fast point defense day fighter, but further developed into a limited strike fighter. The F-105 was designed as a very-fast, low-level delivere
  22. One word: Airfix Airfix has just announced a new 1/48 early P-40, and if their recent kits are any measure, this should be the best early P-40 available in any scale. So save your money (it shouldn't take much) and wait for the new Airfix kit. Oh, and you might want to take this over to "Props" as this is "Jets" in this department.
