1. That looks very impressive and I love the weathering. Those desert birds became grubby very quickly.
2. All very valid points Gabor, well made and explained. Like you say, they seem to have ignored what the scan info altogether. You would have thought they would have learned a lesson after their laughable MiG-15. One thing we can be sure of, Hornby would not release a train with this many errors! A great opportunity missed by Airfix. Let's hope Eduard release one in the future.
3. That does look good John. Does this mean that a Cheetah 'D' conversion set will be here soon?
4. Thanks for the advice guys, very informative. As I'm not one for modifications I think I will just keep my eye out for the Fujimi kit. Thanks again for your help.
5. Not being overly familiar with helicopter modelling I hope one of you guys may be able to advise me. I am considering doing the Imperial Iranian Air Force as a project and one of the major Iranian types was the Bell AH-1J SeaCobra. What are my options for building one in 1/72 scale? As far as I can figure only Fujimi have modelled the AH-1J in this scale and they seem as rare as hens teeth! Am I correct in thinking the AH-1T was the upgraded version and if so how easy is it to back date? Any help or advice would be appreciated.
6. I found a good review of an Authentic decals sheet on a Russian site. NOTE: No blue circle around the fuselage star. No serial number also! Would the white number 4 be displayed on both sides of the nose? The only image I have of the starboard side shows the kill markings but the engine panel that would hold the number has been removed.
7. What a great site, some wonderful images on there.
8. I have obviously opened the proverbial can of worms here! I found this site very useful: "http://vvs.hobbyvista.com/Markings/P39/color_mark_1.php" I think I will do as Netz says and stick to the pictorial evidence that I have to hand. From the few pictures in the book I can conclude that there is no circle around the star, just a red star with a white outline. It looks factory painted so I will assume the aircraft had red stars in the six usual positions. I can also discern that the panel displaying the white number four is of a different colour – although it could be a
9. The pilots look great sitting in that big office. Keep the images coming as this is an unusual build - I know I won't be doing one any time soon.
10. Thanks guys. I have to agree with Rick. There are no wing guns & if I recall correctly Mariinskiy mentions removing th egun pack increases the rate of roll. So that would indicate a P-39Q, I was hoping to narrow it down to a P-39Q-20 or whatever. Netz - those animations are great. The other question that I had was about markings. This artists impression indicates a blue circle around the red star: But this photo does not show any variation from the OD colour. Don't get me wrong, I am no rivet counter but as I am only doing one soviet P-39 I want to get it correct.
11. Can anyone help me identify the model of this P-39 Airacobra. It was flown by Evgenii Mariinskiy I believe the photo was taken between mid-1944 & early 45. I think it is a P-39Q but I am no expert. Any help appreciated. If you are interested in the Eatern Front air war Mariinskiy's book 'Red Star Airacobra' is available as a free ebook for Kindle or kindle apps. Just look it up on Amazon. Well worth a read. :)
12. Thanks for the info guys. As long as it looks like a Mustang when completed I will be happy. I will just build it and practice a NMF finish.
13. Just a quick question for all you Mustang experts. I have been given an Academy P-51D and am wanting to know if it is any good or are there any glaring mistakes that I should be aware of. Thanks.
14. I need to fill a sparse cockpit tub. Any figures will probably do, I can convert.
15. It looks pretty good to me. What kit is it?
16. Managed to get this one completed: I had to use decals from the new Airfix 110 as the kit decals dissolved in water! They were dated 1983 so I can't complain. Here it is next to a 109 I recently built as part of a 24 hour group build. I will try to take some more pictures if the sun ever appears again.
17. I managed to put some paint on the 110 & remove the masking. The canopy needs cleaning up but hopefully I can progress this quickly now. I must say, the difference in greens is very slight.
18. Sorry for not progressing on this one. I have been away on holiday for a couple of weeks only to come back and find the ceiling had collapsed in my modelling room. I have retreated downstairs whilst I carry out repairs. Fortunately no models were damaged beyond repair so I will try to crack on with this ASAP & definately intend to complete before the deadline.
19. Can anyone advise me on the external differences between the AD3 & AD 6?
20. Does anyone have or know where I can find images of Spitfire Mk V bomb racks? I am interested in the wing mounted pylons (if thats what they are) below the cannon bays. Any help appreciated.
21. That's a lovely finish you have there. A very interesting build threat to follow. Thanks for sharing.
