  1. If you're taking the shortest route as indicated on google, with a little diversion you could hit the 8th AF museum at Barksdale LA. Then there's the Memphis Belle in Memphis.
  2. Good catch John, let me just say that, being the guy who managed the official paint scheme drawing files at OC-ALC from 1977 to 1988, buck tankers weren't officially supposed to have white cowls.
  3. Tankers were NEVER painted 'in the field'. They were only painted in the depots; Tinker AFB and at contractor facilities in various locations. The directive to switch between corroguard and ADC gray happened between 77 and 81. The nacelles were always ADC gray possibly B-707 gray to begin with. There were a very few special purpose EC's & RC's that had white nacelles, but never buck tankers.
  4. Sorry for the delay as Turbofan posted above my paints are the Xtracolor enamels.
  5. One of the decal companies did a line of paints that matched the AF-1 paint schemes. They ARE NOT FS numbers! I'll look it up at home later today.
  6. Glad he's safe, plane is rebuild-able with enough money. The Ryan WAS a fighter plane in the 1930's movie "Divebomber" My link
  7. Wow flashback to my twin training. I got my ticket in a twin Comanche the only airplane to have it's VMC arbitrarily raised by 10 MPH to cut down on the single engine accidents it was having. One training departure over the open flat lands of Oklahoma my instructor cut fuel to an engine and the airplane yawed. So as trained I pulled the throttle back on the side that was yawing. Got real quite in the plane, he'd killed the right engine but he stomped on the left rudder. He looked at me with a grin and said; "Quiet isn't it?" Teaching me to verify which engine actually died before I removed
  8. Yes, they are. As one of the few of the huge crowd that helped buy the VC-25 fleet, many of your comments are valid, at the same time many of you cannot possibly understand the HUGE political, mulch-agency, cluster flop that goes into trying to even plan how to buy these planes. STORM has got the average tax payer handle on it; he's right there a a gazillion what-if scenarios and requirements loaded on these planes from micromanaged fourth-tier offices that you have no idea actually exist until someone says;'Hey let's buy the Pres a new plane!' Almost endless stink'n arguments from folks
  9. This is now the third aviation accident where the aircraft is clearly fully stalled, as if the pilots we're training have no concepts or practice at the very basics of flight. Tragic.
  10. Straight from Sir Frank Whittle’s mouth at a lecture at the USAFM a long while back. While testing the first jet turbine they were using an electric motor to start a gas piston engine which in turn spun the turbine up to speed. The gas two-stroke was the short straw in the starting chain. It constantly broke down or wouldn’t run at full speed. One day while the degreed engineers were tinkering with the little gasoline engine, trying to get it to run consistently again. The humble shop floor sweep dared to ask the engineers a question; “Pardon me gentlemen, maybe you could explain why you’re
  11. A tough conversion followed by the two hardest paint finishes; polished aluminum and day-glow. OUTSTANDING sir. From a guy who used to look after this bird from the depot.
  12. Yes sir, I'm talking hovercraft. But since it technically doesn't 'fly' I can see your point. Ok back to wings+skis or floats.
  13. Being and avid 1/144 airliner buyer, I'm not aware of Minicraft doing a Caravelle. So is this kit possibly Mastercraft?
  14. I've just figured out why I don't do more group builds. I keep forgetting to take and post pics while I'm working. The good news is I AM working. Wheels painted cockpit padding painted, new wheel arrived from a friend, and a coat of future went on everything to even out the finishes.
  15. Some 'air'craft have skirts, no wheels and they float would they qualify, along with being full of eels?
  16. Vince, you've got a TARDIS go back and pick one up when they first came out.
  17. I wouldn't let it go for any less than $400.00 The next larger kit of the 172 is this one http://www.oldmodelkits.com/index.php?detail=23121&searchtext=172&erl=Nichimo-1-20-Cessna-Skyhawk-172-S-2002
  18. I did a google for G scale Japanese commuters and drew a blank. I think I have to go with the trade show models guess above too.
  19. JR would the wheels out of a 1/48 Kinetic F-5A work for your T-38?
  20. CorsairMan The Glenco molds are based on the old old oooold Aurora/Merit molds. The wings were pretty much self aligning. Not much of a challenge on these kits.
  21. First update, after lying in open boxes through one move and a couple of relocations in the stash I'm only missing ONE WHEEL and one machine gun. We'll see what we can do about substituting.
