  1. Hey Don,

I may be able to hook you up with some of the Benchworks stuff.  I know I have some seconds and stuff for personal use.  I spent many hours helping/learning how to cast that stuff with Sudds.  He was definitely a character!  I can remember casting exhaust cans the night before a show or contest.  He always marveled about how many people wanted his resin.

    Send me a pm.

  2. The vertical fin on all of the Trumpeter/Hobby Boss two seat F-105s is wrong.  Doesn't matter which scale you pick.  The vertical fin on the F-105F/G has a broader chord than the single seaters.  It is also taller.  Monogram got this right on their kits.

  3. Tamiya has been using that type of decal for the tire markings in their F1 car kits since the late eighties.  They actually work really well and there is virtually no extra decal film with their process.

I have a 1/48 scale Hasegawa A6M2 kit that has a version of those decals.  The problem is the protective wax paper stuck to them in several places making a several of them unusable.  That is the only Hasegawa release I can remember with those type of decals.

  4. Been searching with no luck for the weapons loads carried by VF-32 F-14s during the January, 1989 shootdowns of the Libyan MiG-23s.  Does anyone have good information on the configurations of both VF-32 jets during this encounter?

    Thanks,

  5. A friend of mine's son is an engineer with Boeing in St. Louis. He told me many years ago the reason for the angled pylons on the Super Hornets. Without going into a lot of detail ( classified info ) he said there was a "perceived " separation problem with a certain store/weapon that is not widely used. The pylons were canted as a quick fix and most people involved were not happy about it. Make of it what you will, but that is what I was told by someone in the loop. Fifteen plus years later and the program winding down, I think the Super Hornet operators have accepted the drag penalties and range reduction.

If you look at pictures of Super Hornets in OIF and OEF, you'll notice that they are flying with some of the pylons removed.

  6. Thanks for doing this sheet. The CO bird is the last jet I launched and recovered before retiring. I sent the info for that bird to some other guys for a potential decal sheet but they ceased production. I know you have worked with them in the past and would be pleased if my info helped you out.

Thanks again for producing this sheet. Now I can build that model of the last day I actually worked for the ANG.

  7. That is unexpected but very welcome. It will remove a stalled project from my shelf of doom also. Now I won't need to finish the kit bash I started with the Heller kit and the Hobby Boss kit. Anyone need any Mirage parts?

  8. Need to be careful with programs you already have installed and their compatibility with 10. I just got a notice from Quickbooks that the 2014 version I use for my business will not work with Windows 10. Glad I didn't try it out when I first started getting the free update notices.

Food for thought: When has Microsoft ever given a new operating system away for FREE? Makes you wonder about what is really going on...

On the advice of a buddy who works in the computer business I'm sticking with 7 as long as possible.

  9. Hey Don,

If you have any of the Hobby Boss 1/48 scale A-7 Corsair kits there may be a solution. The tanks in those kits are horrible and don't look like right for anything but I discovered a use for them. I was looking for the same solution for a 1/32 scale Skyraider and discovered that the 1/32 scale Trumpeter A-7 tanks could be modified into the 150 gallon tanks. Remove the straight center sections from each tank and splice the tapered front and rear parts together. I matched these up to drawings in the Ginter Skynight book and it looks like it will work. The Ginter book on the Skynight has a whole section about the external tanks and the drawings for the 300 gallon tanks match up well with 1/32 scale Skyhawk tanks. That's where I got the idea to look at the goofy A-7 tanks for a solution. The front and rear halves matched the 150 gallon tank drawings perfectly. The 1/48 scale Hobby Boss A-7 tanks have the same weird profile as the 1/32 scale Trumpeter tanks so it should work. I have a couple of two-seat Hobby Boss Corsairs and could hook you up with a tank.

    See ya,

  10. We watch it at my house because we can do it together as a family. I have younger kids and we don't have to get them to leave the room or explain certain situations that you don't really want to be talking about with a seven year old. I'm by no means a prude and watch a lot of off color comedies on my own ( Archer, Always Sunny In Philadelphia, Tosh.0, Workaholics, etc...) but there are even some of the mainstream network shows that I am uncomfortable letting the kids watch. It is amazing how many network shows are full of jokes about genitals during prime time. Duck Dynasty is pretty clean and you develop an interest in the characters after a while. We watch Deadliest Catch as well, but mainly for the people on the show. Everyone knows that they are going to catch crabs ( no pun intended ), yell at each other, and deal with adverse situations but after ten seasons, get attached to them as people. Scripted or not, they are still people and not full fledged actors.

  11. If you start with the Tamiya Thunderbirds kit, you already have the small intake and the lighter weight landing gear. The instrument panel is significantly different for the F-16A compared to the F-16C. You will need the smaller vertical fin base that the F-16As and Bs used. There are also some panel differences on the top of the fuselage around the vertical fin base that you will need to re-scribe. The F-16A used different main wheels from the ones that are in the T-Birds box. Sierra Hotel Models has some early style F-16 wheels in the works but they are not available yet. Dr Pepper resins has a set of early wheels but he is ceasing trading very soon. There are also some differences with the ECS exhaust duct on the lower fuselage in front of the left wheel well. The horizontal stabs were NOT smaller on the later F-16As that the Thunderbirds used. The ones in the Tamiya kit are fine. I am not sure which Isracast set you have, but if it has a different instrument panel and vertical fin base, you are on your way to an F-16A. I think you will have a better building experience using the Tamiya F-16C Thunderbird kit as a basis.
