Thanks guys, and yeah Benjamin, I HAVE been on (and worked) a real shrimp boat. Chris

Hello to everyone - both the members I remember and the new ones I haven't met yet! I have been in a funk for a couple of years and I am starting to get the urge to build. My twins are getting old enough (6.5) that I don't have to watch them like a hawk. I was working on a 1/32 scale hornet for a friend when I got discouraged by the sheer size of the kit. (I normally build 1/48) It's huge. I'm finally to the paint stage, so I hope to finish it this summer and get started on something for my display case. Chris

That pencil drawing of the GT350 is stunning. Chris

WOW! Another Luftwaffe progress build that I have missed! Outstanding work! I really like your willingness and ability to super detail in this scale! Chris PS. Great tip on how to make rubber inserts in the engine breather pipes! I'm going to commandeer that one, giving you full credit, of course.

I don't know how I missed this great build. Fantastic! I just spent 30 min and 2 cups of coffee reading the whole thread! Great looking 110. I never bet tired of looking at WWII Luftwaffe paint schemes. Chris

Pretty sweet. I never get tired of seeing Focke Wulfs...... Chris

I assemble the intake, then putty and sand until it's smooth, then I cap one end and pour some paint in it and swirl.....Works like a champ.. ;) Chris

Remember, You can only tie the low altitude record. It's impossible to set a new one... Chris

Carl, Nice looking model! You really did a nice job on that paint job. Nice choice of decals, also. I actually have quite a few hours at the controls of BuNo 161592.... I was in VP-94 from 1995-2002. I'm sure that I flew with your boss. I even have a copy of the picture that you "borrowed" from your boss. Once again, great looking model. Chris

Gotta love that.... Fortunately, I haven't run into anything (or been run into it!) but I had some REALLY close calls with broken towbars - Late afternoon push in ATL on a crowed ramp, just as the tug driver is turning the plane.... and a ice covered ramp in Syracuse. Chris

That is one sweet looking Dora. I wish I could understand the build thread where he chronicled the build! What a gorgeous model... Chris

Superb paintwork! I REALLY like it! Chris

Nice paintwork, Bill. I really like that scheme. That is something different for the display case! Chris

Larry's Hobbies is a decent hobby shop. It specializes in model RR and RC stuff, but they do have a good supply of kits. They have a good supply of paint (especially in the RR section), but they have no resin or decals. Larry's is located at I-45 North & FM 1960. I don't know of much else in town. Hobby Island was such a great shop, it really sucks that it closed. Chris

VERY NICE! I love the paintjob. Nice attention to detail. Chris

What would your dream new model release be?
Chris Kethan replied to chuck540z3's topic in Jet Modeling
How about a 1/48 P-3 kit. I'd really be into that. While we're dreaming, how about a 1/48 727? Chris -
Close call: A320 crosswind landing in Hamburg
Chris Kethan replied to ChernayaAkula's topic in Research Corner
They may not have been out of limits, but they sure were out of good headwork. This should have been a go-around long before they got close to the ground. Chris -
Sweet paint job, Joe! That is one SUPERB looking Dauntless. I always enjoy seeing your work. Chris

Bosco, Depending on the size of the window, you can make a new one out of Testor's "Clear parts cement & window maker". If the missing window isn't too big, you can paint your model as you normally would and then apply the window maker to the opening. As it starts to dry, use a toothpick to stretch it across the window frame. It's a pretty neat trick and the window comes out crystal clear and very thin. EDIT: I see Greg posted the same tip while I was typing.... Good Luck, Chris

Sweet! I really like the paintwork. I currently only build USN and WWII Luftwaffe, but lately I've developed an interest in the Mig-21. I have decided (before I die) to build a -21 in the color scheme of every country that flew them.. (It's quite a list - something like 48 counties). I've already started buying kits and decals for the stash. I hope my Mig's look half as good as yours. That is one great looking build. Chris

KMC 727-200 1/72nd scale airport Diorama
Chris Kethan replied to CW4 Erick Swanberg's topic in In-Progress Pics
Very cool project, Erick! I really want to build that kit someday. I love the "Studebaker". If you have any specific questions about the 727 just PM.... I've got 4000 hours in it. Chris -
Focke Wulf Fw 190 D-9, 1/48 Italeri/Dragon

Nice paint job... Can't wait to see this one finished. Chris -
Thanks for the help, guys. Lenny, I'll include some pictures after I get done with the sanding. Right now all I have painted is the wheel wells and cockpit. Now I have another question. Do the slats droop after hydraulic power is removed, or are they positioned down when the aircraft is shut down? All the pictures I have show the slats down on an unpowered aircraft.. Chris
