  1. Hello to everyone - both the members I remember and the new ones I haven't met yet!

I have been in a funk for a couple of years and I am starting to get the urge to build. My twins are getting old enough (6.5) that I don't have to watch them like a hawk.

I was working on a 1/32 scale hornet for a friend when I got discouraged by the sheer size of the kit. (I normally build 1/48) It's huge. I'm finally to the paint stage, so I hope to finish it this summer and get started on something for my display case.

  2. WOW!

Another Luftwaffe progress build that I have missed! Outstanding work! I really like your willingness and ability to super detail in this scale!

PS. Great tip on how to make rubber inserts in the engine breather pipes! I'm going to commandeer that one, giving you full credit, of course.

  3. Carl,

Nice looking model! You really did a nice job on that paint job. Nice choice of decals, also.

I actually have quite a few hours at the controls of BuNo 161592....

I was in VP-94 from 1995-2002. I'm sure that I flew with your boss. I even have a copy of the picture that you "borrowed" from your boss.

    Once again, great looking model.

  4. While taxiing, we had a wing walker walk our left wing tip right on top of a fuel truck. They had to let the air out of the truck tires so we could be moved back. Luckily it amounted to very little damage.

    Gotta love that....

Fortunately, I haven't run into anything (or been run into it!) but I had some REALLY close calls with broken towbars - Late afternoon push in ATL on a crowed ramp, just as the tug driver is turning the plane.... and a ice covered ramp in Syracuse.

  5. The question would be how'd you ever get it to speed up in the first place? A friend of mine in high school had one and I'd only catch a ride with him if I didn't have to be anywhere in a hurry.

Always remember David, "better a poor ride than a proud walk".

  6. Larry's Hobbies is a decent hobby shop. It specializes in model RR and RC stuff, but they do have a good supply of kits. They have a good supply of paint (especially in the RR section), but they have no resin or decals.

    Larry's is located at I-45 North & FM 1960.

I don't know of much else in town. Hobby Island was such a great shop, it really sucks that it closed.

  7. Hi Boats,

...That is the pilot's decision alone. It is up to the crew to do a thorough review of the landing conditions, and not to press a bad situation. Where was his dispatcher on this one? I can't tell from the video if the winds were out of limits, but it sure looks like it..

    Regards,

    Pig

They may not have been out of limits, but they sure were out of good headwork. This should have been a go-around long before they got close to the ground.

  8. Bosco,

Depending on the size of the window, you can make a new one out of Testor's "Clear parts cement & window maker". If the missing window isn't too big, you can paint your model as you normally would and then apply the window maker to the opening. As it starts to dry, use a toothpick to stretch it across the window frame. It's a pretty neat trick and the window comes out crystal clear and very thin.

EDIT: I see Greg posted the same tip while I was typing....

    Good Luck,

    Chris

  9. Sweet!

    I really like the paintwork.

I currently only build USN and WWII Luftwaffe, but lately I've developed an interest in the Mig-21. I have decided (before I die) to build a -21 in the color scheme of every country that flew them.. (It's quite a list - something like 48 counties). I've already started buying kits and decals for the stash.

I hope my Mig's look half as good as yours. That is one great looking build.

  10. Thanks for the help, guys.

Lenny, I'll include some pictures after I get done with the sanding. Right now all I have painted is the wheel wells and cockpit.

Now I have another question. Do the slats droop after hydraulic power is removed, or are they positioned down when the aircraft is shut down? All the pictures I have show the slats down on an unpowered aircraft..
