  1. Jakub, Beautiful job! The finish looks flawless and you really did a great job on the mottling. Chris
  2. Great work with the airbrush. That is truly amazing! Chris
  3. I took a "Growler" at Whidbey when I passed through there back in 1996.. I'm sorry, I couldn't help it. That name is just wrong, and isn't growing on me. Chris
  4. This was a great GB. We really had some cool entries. Thanks to all. I'll miss reading our forum every day to follow all the progress. We need a new GB that will allow me to build alot more of my Luftwaffe kits! Chris
  5. Thanks, Mods for a great GB! Thank you also to everyone who donated prizes. Thank you Mark Toillie for donating the 1/48 Aircraft Bunker set. What a great prize! Chris Kethan
  6. You picked a good one to build in 6 days, Doc. I don't think I used any filler when I built this kit. Quick progress.. I could never build one that quickly because I always let my Paint, future, dullcote dry for at least 24 hours each. That wouldn't leave me much time for the actual build! Looks like you have a good shot to make it.. Chris
  7. I really like the black nose tomcat.... Chris
  8. Great job, Bill. I always look forward to seeing your work. Those black decals really make the markings stand out! Chris
  9. It's certainly a great technological achievement, but the 380 looks very ungainly to me. It just doesn't have very graceful lines. Oh well....My company will NEVER buy it, so I don't have to worry about flying it. Chris
  10. That thing is coming together nicely. Those painted on markings look great. You better start a clear-coating, washing, weathering frenzy.... the end is nigh. Chris
  11. Back when they had the NAVCAD program, it wasn't uncommon to see fleet aviators as Ensigns. The NAVCAD's actually got their wings and their commision at the same time. In my fleet P-3 squadron, we had a PPC (patrol plane commander) who was an Ensign. He went through the RAG in 6 months, then upgraded to PPC in about 17 months (which was above average). We were required to complete the upgrade process in 24 months, but most guys got it done in about 19 months. So this guy was an ENS PPC - in command of the flight, with a LT 2P (second pilot) and a LTjg 3P. Chris
  12. Great job , Bob! That cockpit is sweet. I've got one of these as well. I have rescribed about half of it. I have come to the conclusion that rescribing kits is my least favorite modeling chore. I really don't like it. I also want to try and finish mine with foil. If you want some inspiration to finish yours with foil, look at the stunning example in the Gallery. Amazing... Chris
  13. I actually brushed future on my watch crystal to see if it would fill in scratches. It worked like a champ. I have since replaced the crystal, but it helped me extend the life by about a year. Chris
  14. Very Nice, Chuck! A different camo scheme to break up the mottled monotony on your Luftwaffe flight line! Chris
  15. Don, I was deployed to Kef back in 1990 with 56. When we got back from deployment, they decommed the squadron and I got sent to 45. Deployed back to Kef in 1992. Is it possible you may have briefed/debriefed me a few times? Chris
  16. Don, Were you in VP-26? I assume you were a VP guy because of your SS3 name. I was in 56, 45 & 94. We probably know some of the same people! Chris
  17. WOW! Sebastian, that A-6 kicks ***! What a great paint job. Chris
  18. Last night I finished my Me-410. This kit was great. The ONLY negative I can say about the kit is the 5 piece greenhouse canopy. It really is a challenge to get it to fit and look halfway decent. Other than that, I really enjoyed this kit! When I chose this kit to model for the Group Build, I didn't realize that it would be such a popular subject. I thought mine would be the only one of the GB. Little did I know that there would be 2 other outstanding 410's completed! Here are some pictures of the finished model. I included a shot of the cockpit that I took during construction for
  19. Mike, I've always wanted to add this aircraft to my USN flightline, but the vac-u-form kits scare me...I've never built one. You are making this one look easy! Great job. I will be following this thread closely. Maybe someday in a moment of insanity, I'll try to build a vac kit. Chris
  20. That don't scare me..... Work on it! Chris
  21. Thanks, David. The mud on the gear doors was just some burnt umber and raw umber drybrushed fairly heavily. I brushed from the bottom edge, angling back as if the mud were splashing up while taxiing or on T/O roll. Chris
  22. Here is my second entry. I know it's not accurate, but this was strictly an OOB build while I waited for parts of my Me-410 to dry. I just had some fun with this one.... Here are some completed shots. I apologize for the photos. I'm not much of a photographer. I took 40 photos and I only found these 5 images worth posting (kind of). I added Eduard PE belts. The markings are the kit markings for Stab/Vaerbandsfuhrerschule des Generals der Jagdflieger, Bad Worishofen, 1945. Chris
  23. Great looking lightning, Cop. That BMF looks great! Someday I'll muster my courage enough to try one, and I hope it turns out half as nice as yours! Keep posting progress. Chris
  24. Those painted markings look great. You have done a great job on that D9. Chris
