Great finish, David. The color demarcation lines are just perfect. Keep going....Only 30 days left, and I want to see this one complete. Chris -
Dave, Great job! That thing is sweet. The painting looks flawless, and I really like the colorful Luftwaffe scheme. Chris

When I returned to the hobby in 1998, I started building 1/48 because that's what I built when I was a kid. I have continued in 1/48 to keep all of my subjects the same scale. Maybe someday I'll start a new 1/72 flightline! Chris

Let's do a "preemptive" kit analysis...
Chris Kethan replied to Impatient Pete's topic in Jet Modeling
I'd really like to see a 1/48 P-3C. I could really go to town detailing that one. There were quite alot of countries that flew it and the High Viz schemes from the 70's & 80's were really colorful. Since a 1/48 skypig will NEVER happen, a F11F would be really cool. Or maybe a F7U Cutlass. Chris -
Nice job, Grobber. It looks like you never had a break in modelling - especially not a 15 year one! What's your next project? If you want another good luftwaffe plane to do some more mottling, try one of the hasegawa 109 series, or the Tamiya 262. Great kits. This one turned out really nice. Chris

Navy mandates toning down of Super Hornets
Chris Kethan replied to ARK HERKY LOAD's topic in Real Aviation
When my reserve squadron painted our colorful paint scheme, the corrosion shop did all of the painting after hours. The skipper told the MO that the project had to be done after hours, after all the corrosion gripes were completed. IIRC, the project was strictly voluntary. The whole shop volunteered - must have had pretty good Esprit De Corps. I'm with Karl on this one. There are alot bigger fish to fry in the Navy without spending so much time worrying about trivial stuff. Chris -
I've got a 1/72 tweet for sale or trade if anyone wants it. It was given to me by a friend. I'll never build it since I don't build 1/72.. Chris

Scott, I built the A-36 boxing of the Mustang and it was great. No gotchas, with great detail. It went together alot easier than the other AM kit I built. Chris

Drew, That foil looks GREAT! Someday I hope to build my 1/48 Hustler and cover it with foil. If it turned out half as well as yours I'd be ecstatic. I'm glad to see an update on this project. Chris

I think I saw Murph in one of those cockpits... Chris

Looks great, David. I can't wait to see this one out of the paint barn! Chris -
Great looking work there Bill! That Me-110 is phenomenal. Glad to hear you're feeling better. I'll be watching this thread with interest, as I do with ALL of your builds. Of all the builds I see on ARC, Bill, yours is the work that really motivates me to build ! Chris

Great job, David! Those belts look really convincing! Keep posting. Chris -
Chris, I'll tell you what I think.... I think you have done a great job! That SBD looks outstanding! The finish is superb. I really enjoy following your builds. What is the next project? I hope you stay with the USN theme, or build another one of your Luftwaffe masterpieces. Great build! Chris

That is sweet, Leo! Keep posting pictures of this build! Chris

Hemi, Welcome aboard! I'll echo what everyone else said. I'll recommend 1/48 scale because it is a good compromise between size, detail, and price. As I get older( and my eyesight deteriorates!) , I think it is easier to work with the bigger scales. Also, even though you may want to throw a kit away that you screwed up, stay with it. Try to fix it. I still have the first kit I built when I returned to the hobby sitting on my display shelf. It looks awful, but it reminds me how much I have learned! Above all, have fun with the hobby. Build your kit, YOUR way. Chris

David, I actually like the pewter color of the new NW livery, but they DID screw up the logo. Some marketing genius was obviously responsible for that one.. At least the new paint job looks better than the "Bowling Shoe" scheme that they used to sport. Even though I hate our livery, I'll throw in a vote for Delta since they paychecks I get haven't bounced yet! Chris

I was a LTjg in the Navy at the time, on my first deployment to Keflavik, Iceland. I was busy keeping the red hoard at bay while my comrades ousted Hussein from Kuwait. Like everyone else, when I wasn't on the flight schedule, I was watching it on CNN. (and I HATE watching the news). Chris

display cases or shelves or hanging from the ceiling?
Chris Kethan replied to jotter's topic in Tools 'n' Tips
Thanks for the ideas, guys! I have been watching Ebay for 6 months, trying to find a suitable display case. My 29 completed models are just on regular shelves, and are getting really dusty. That IKEA case looks like a good low cost solution! Chris -

Progress on the Me-410
Chris Kethan replied to Chris Kethan's topic in Defense Of The Reich Group Build
Here she as after a marathon painting session last night. Shawn, you were correct. That canopy was a beotch to fit. I practiced dryfitting it for a few times before I actually applied the glue. I used clear 5 min epoxy, so I only got one chance to get it right. ;) It's not perfect, but it's about as good as I could do. Also, for those of you building this kit, be sure to trim the rear gunsight before you add the canopy. The kit part is too wide to allow the canopy to fit. I cut my gunsight apart & shortened the base to get it to fit under the glass. Enough BS.... On to t -
Here is a repost of the photos that were lost when Steve moved the forums. This is the 1/48 PM kit of the Fw-190 D11. From what I've read and been told by others, this kit isn't a very accurate one. Of course I didn't find that out until I had already started it. This was just supposed to be an OOB, easy build while I waited for the subassemblies to dry on my 410. Here is how it looked as of last night when I got the first camo color painted. I hope to spray the RLM 81 tonight and have it ready for clear coat this weekend. I'll post more as soon as I get it painted and ready fo
