Howdy all, The plane is now ready to be primed as I have installed another set of slats. This second time is much easier than the first and I will post some pictures showing the easiest way to install them. I just discovered Flightdecks in Canada produced F86 decals that has the scheme I want to build (Luftwaffe MK 6) and the decals come with a MUCH more accurate sugar scoops than the AMS ! Needless to say I ordered them right away. I will go ahead and prime the model/fix surface flaws then pay attention to the scoops after they are installed. These photos are from ARC and LF Model

Hi all, Tonight I assembled the CMK gun bay/cockpit to see how it fits. Impossible as the tub interferes massively with the intake trunk even with serious sanding to make things fit. I have tried many after market cockpit kits. If you install the gun bay then these will NOT work as they interfere with the bays. The only combination that works is the left Verlinden bay with kit's tub. Even with that I had to sand massively on the bay to allow the tub to sit. So if you want the bays along with resin cockpit, I would look into the Academy kit. Dai

Greetings, Upon examination, I sanded so much on the bottom wing that I lost the profile. Toward the leading edge the profile should be a gentle curve rather than flat. Luckily I have a spare set and a spare F-40 wings that I will try again. Now I know where to cut so it should be much better second time around. I will post the photos of the cuts so you can see where you need to cut to make things fit. The slat length is a little bit shorter than the outline of the slats molded onto the plastic toward the tip. Dai

Hello everyone, This project is done. Here are my takes... PROS: 1. The best 1/48 scale Defiant. The ones by Trumpeter and Classic Airframes did not fare as well based online reviews. The Trumpeter suffers from serious outline issue and CA is harder to build. 2. Detailed cockpit and turret. 3. Good fit and engineering. I really like how the turet goes together and the fact it can be installed after the fuse is painted. CONS: 1. Simple surface details without rivets. A big flaw that makes the surface boring and lacks refinement. As such

Can you please elaborate? I use refrence photo as well as decal illustration to place the decals as exactly as possible. Dai

Hi all, Weathering time. The Prisma pencil works very well over the black base. Dai

Hello all, I plan to use the Luftwaffe scheme. These are the decals I plan to use. How do I know which scheme is the LATE MK6 with slats? The illustrations all show slat-less MK.6s 😞. I include the instructions for your guidance. Thank you very much! Hello everyone, Continued on with the conversion. Sanded the raised rectangular panel in front of the vertical tail and removed the scoop on the right side. Refined sugar scoops. Now I come to think about it. Some companies just slap on decals and call it another version without really modifying the parts to make it the CORRECT version that the model is supposed to be. Although in this case Hasegawa did correct the wings with slats but left a bunch out. Another example is the S3A/B Viking that Italeri reboxed. It says S3 A/B but the B cannot be build unless a bunch of mods are ne

Hello friends, Applied the decals today. I use the Xtradecal and the decals are thin, strong and respond to Mark Fit Strong. However they suffer from off registry on some decals, wrong spacing and sizing. Also the clear film is affected from solution as you can see from the photos. I think once the clear coated applied, wash, weathering the issue will be resolved. I do not understand why many decal companies got the decals wrong with references easily are at hand. It seems like the illustrator just looked at the photos once then draw from memories ! I had to trim way oversized rudd

Greetings, I could only locate one photo of the Defiant engine. This will give you an idea to dress up the engine as it is very bare and basic in details. The scratches on the fuse and wings can be easily duplicated with Prisma grey or silver pencils. Dai

From my post in the build thread... OK gangs, I see the problem now. If you assemble the tube as IS without shaving the side tubes, then you will have the proper width (barely) to fit the resin seat. But then the fuselage may not close properly. You can see the gap pointed by the arrow on Ammo test piece. Second if you use the 3D panels this will reduce the width even more making the resin seat impossible to fit. Conclusion? The resin seat is oversized and should be at the same width as the plastic seat. You still can use the resin seat if you do not shave the tubings

I did not see any more responses. The resin seat is over sized but it will fit the tub if you do not use the cockpit 3D decals and tighten the tub as advised in the addendum sheet. I used the 3D decals and did some shavings as advised so the tub will not cause a gap in fuse. Then the resin seat will NOT fit. Also the ladder is undersized and incorrect. Needless to say the Premium Edition is a waste of money. The quality of this kit is typical Trumpeter, HB and nothing to rave about. Dai
