  1. It was the first AIM-120 kill. The pilot was LTC Gary North, the 33FS squadron Commander..not a Captain. I'd bet a -119 pod. Thats what we were using when I was there 2 weeks prior to the kill. The fin flash in the painting is wrong. Should be a yellow flash from the 19th FS. The jet was on loan to the 33rf FS. LANTIRN NAV pod on station 5A HTH Pig
  2. Ahh..Ross Perot Jr.'s jet. Assembled by Chuck Thornton, I believe. Notice the AT-38 pylon on the centerline and F-5 boat-tail with drag chute box. What I would give to own that gem- Pig
  3. Terry, You are one hell of a modeler, but I'd stay away from the Collect Aire T-38. It has got major shape issues, and many of the parts are just resin copies of parts from the Hasegawa F-5E..and they are wrong. Not worth the money and aggrivation IMHO Regards, Pig
  4. Not exactly: In the 1950s the Strategic Air Command based the 12th Strategic Fighter Wing and the 27th Fighter Escort Wing at Bergstrom Air Force Base, Texas. These units provided fighter escort, air defense for SAC bomber forces from 1950 through 1957. In l950, the 524th fighter escort squadron flying the F-84 went to Taegu Air Base, Korea, where they served in combat until moving to Bergstrom AFB, Texas, in mid l95l. In l953, the unit was redesignated as the 524th Strategic Fighter Squadron and then the 524th Fighter Bomber Squadron in l957. That same year F-101s replaced the F-84s and the
  5. Hi Terry! Looking super excellent as usual! I read your dance steps for the wash process, but I missed exactly what you are using for the wash-Sorry if I missed it-What are you using? The result is outstanding! Regards, Pig

  7. Was going to jump in here with a proper response to this "absolute" statement, but Murph beat me to it. Gotta love the classics. Pig
  8. Rate X Time = Distance ie..At 480 kts, how long will it take you to go 15 miles? (480 kts is 8 miles per minute..so about 1 minute 49 seconds) You can solve for any of the three variables. Doesn't have to be time/speed/distance either. You could use the same formula to figure a problem like: You can dump fuel at 2400 pounds per hour. How long will it take to dump 18000 pounds? Stuff like that- HTH Pig
  9. Not a conversion set, but here's how I did mine- Pig's Polish block 52D in 32nd scale HTH Pig
  10. Hola! FSM was kind enough to do a review of my book, "The Scale Viper" in the October issue- Made my day! Pig
  11. Those wheelie-things are called "rollerons", and help stabilize the round in flight. These Zacto/Eastern missiles are beautiful!! Gotta get me some! Pig
  12. As a professional pilot, I've learned not to pass judgement on anyone until all the facts are on the table. Regards, Pig
  13. Glad Alf rang in on this one..He's the guy to listen to. He knows enough and is experienced enough to say "lets wait and see". I'm not a Hornet driver but I've got enough fighter stink on me to know that sometimes the answers will elude a casual observer..so, lets wait and see. SH seat! glad the pilot is OK. One swing sucks, but I'll take it- Pig

  20. Dude, what's that all about? Who are you talking about? Are you channelling Kurt Plummer? Pig
  21. No. The 363rd deployed 2 of their three squadrons during DS flying the block 25. The block 42D kill was during Operation Southern Watch after the wing had started its conversion to the block 42. Conversion to the block 50 started in the Summer of '93 IIRC- Regards, Pig
