  1. If someone is not going to use their decals … I Am looking for decals for the underwing fuel tanks, especially the red circular markings. the kit I am building does not have them 😞
  2. wasn't all that satisfied with my old build, so here's my redo: \
  3. late to the conversation .. Though I am a Warthog fan (have 3 models built and would do more),an interesting point about it's DS use, The loss / damage rate was too high that they eventually imposed altitude restrictions and disallowed gun use until the ground war. There were 11 F-16 squadrons deployed compared to 6 a-10 squadrons, yet A-10 loss / damage were proportionally higher. Imagine if the F-16s predominately carried the Maverick on each sortie like the A-10 did; how many tanks / vehicles would they have destroyed?
  4. looking for piece 68A, this is the part that extends the refueling probe away from the fuselage. Somehow I've misplaced this part 😞
  5. Looks great! I suggest a Midway TBF or TBD now 😉 can you describe how you have it that weathered look?
  6. VB-6 only carried the 1000 lb bomb McClusky and VS-6 carried a 500lb bomb and two underwing bombs
  7. I found that site fascinating with all the information available, especially the after action reports. The people that made the most recent Midway movie used a contact at Midway Roundtable as a resource, yet they still put bombs under the wings of the TBD Devastator's on the film ... BTW, maybe a useless fact in terms of modeling. Thach flew two planes, "23" on the escort mission, and "1" on the sortie to defend the USS Yorktown. I built my F4F-4 as Tom Cheek's plane on the escort mission, his story was pretty captivating to read.
  8. The Midway Roundtable is a great resource which I've used Battle of Midway RoundTable (midway42.org) In the Jan 2022 post, scroll down to you see the article on Best's plane.
  9. Decent reference pictures from that time are few, but scroll down this link and you'll find a pic of a damaged Hornet SBD. Condemned Men - Rear-Seat Gunners at Midway | SpaceBattles You can make out the ammo box on the side. Unfortunately, no one makes a gun arrangement like this in 1:72 or 1:48 I also read recently that the SBDs in Enterprise's air group painted their landing struts to identify the plane while landing. Apparently Best's plane had both struts in red.d
  10. Very nice! Any particular plane marking you will pick? I like the subject as I’m working on Midway builds too minor detail, if it matters or not, the .30 dual guns on the SBD did not have shields on them at the time, and had the magazine boxes on the side of the guns.
  11. my first completed build of 2022 .. my take on the Hasegawa kit, using the Type 11 boxing to build a Battle of Midway plane. This is supposed to represent a Nakajima built plane from the Akagi that was shot down and crashed on Midway. Paints are mostly Tamiya, the iphone camera can't really pick out the colour well. The tail code was a bash of decals.
  12. Not much new to see, gotta rescribe some panel lines and then it's ready to paint in few days.. The fin is dry-fitted. working on the bombs at the moment, they are cluster bombs purchased from Shawn Hull's line. Will be using Hasegawa AIM-9 missiles to match all my other DS builds. The LANTIRN pod and ALQ-131 will also be from Hasegawa. The Tamiya F-16N boxing unfortunately doesn't include TER; DonG graciously donated a couple. another problem I haven't worked around is getting the proper markings on the fuel tanks. Will need the red circles and underside markings
  13. Hi Nate, I’m not using my AIM-120 from the Tamiya kit. PM me your mailing address and I’ll send sometime next week. Might be interested in F-16 Triple Ejector Rack if you can spare.
  14. Started a Tamiya 1:48 F-16 using the aggressor boxing, unfortunately it does not include the parts for the TER. Anyone have two they can spare?
  15. Just starting the thread for my current build. Am using the Tamiya F-16 Aggressor boxing to build a Block 40 jet of the 421st TFS in Desert Storm. Just doing the basic assembly at the moment. Not building this particular jet, but will look similar: 88-0432_1.jpg (1024×672) (dstorm.eu)
  16. nice work! .. impressive number of models built, when are you gonna admit you have the prison population building models for you? 😉
  17. definitely watching this build, very nice work. It's inspiring me to continue on my 1:72 B-52 I started years ago.
  18. Thanks Gianni I was trying to decide whether to make this build a Bitburg or Langley bird; I chose Langley as it was cheaper requiring less aftermarket. I started this build as part of Desert Storm group build on Britmodeler, but I wasn't able to finish in time. Family life with a newborn occupies much of my time. Thanks for the sim link, I don't play .. but it's cool to watch, especially if it's DS planes 🙂 Do you mean the model specifically or my Desert Storm collection? If you mean the model, it was several months as I worked on it off and on. So
  19. I'm happy to see the Midway subject and especially the SBD-3 coming out again. To bad I'm currently working on the Hasegawa A6M2, might have saved me the trouble of trying to put decals together. Noticed they put fuel tanks on the F4F-4 when they didn't use them in that battle.
  20. I see Eduard made a resin twin .30 for their boxing of the SBD-5 kit, surely it can't be that much effort for them to make an early version of the twin .30. ... me being hopeful. I might have to build one together. Great Wall Hobby easily could have done with their TBD Midway boxing if they had done their research. Their single .30 in the Wake Island boxing looks right with the proper ammo box and holder attached to the side of the gun.
  21. interesting article, thanks for sharing kind of answering my own question, saw these screen captures of VT-8 at Midway, can see the ammo cans on the side of the rear .30 guns. T13.png (2376×1558) (midway42.org) I think it's fair to say the GWH guns aren't done properly. Too bad no one seems to do a correct 1:48 early dual .30 rear guns.
  22. researching what I need for a Midway SBD-3. Having built the Accurate Miniatures SBD-2, I've set my mind on using the Accurate Miniatures SBD-3 kit for a Midway plane. So a few things I've noticed about the flexible rear gun from various pictures, someone can correct me if I'm wrong no armor plating on the guns no small sliding doors on the side of the fuselage to help stow the gun ammo cans on the side of the guns, not the single large ammunition container Given that, any .30 dual gun available in kit form will need to be modified still?
  23. looking forward to this for my Midway collection. I trust they will add the missing frame from the windshield when the kit is released ..
  24. Thanks. The two ghost grays are Gunze Sangyo paints straight from the bottle. Yes, those are indeed most of of my builds on Jakub's website. Though I haven't bothered with my duplicate builds such that I didn't show all my A-7Es or A-10s. Some of those are not my builds on his site. Being such a long project, products have come out after some of these model builds have been done. Both resin stuff and decals that would have been made things easier. Some of my builds are going through an update in that respect. A simple one was replacing a scratch built
  25. Those that have been part of ARC for years will know I've been building 1991 Gulf War subjects for a long time. My Indefinite Desert Storm Group Build is still going, though the end is somewhat in sight. I still want to build an A-6E, F-16C Block 40, F-16C Block 30, and am currently redoing a RAF Tornado. I've already started my next build topic, The Battle of Midway which I'm finding more interesting at this point than Desert Storm. But anyway, here's my take on another Hasegawa F-15C with a few mods done. I don't really post in-progress pics anymore but more pics to come late
