I am going to use Humbrol's Metal Cote "Polished Aluminium" on my first NMF kit, a Trumpeter 1/48 MiG-19. Also, it will be my first time using Metal Cote. So, I have some doubts that I wish to clear before starting the AB paint job: 1 - It does not need thinning. Is that right? 2 - Is it necessary to apply a base coat? In such case, which color and type? (surface preparation is excellent) 3 - Is it buffable? Any additional recommendations from who had previous experiences (good, or bad) with this kind of finish, will be appreciated. I confess I am afraid to start, because I am used

Cleaning airbrush after Tamiya paint spraying
amflores replied to EagleDriver's topic in Tools 'n' Tips
Yes, yes.....a powder or liquid detergent solution with water, the best and safest! That's what I use. Flores -
"White glue works just as well....", to which I added some water and drops of liquid detergent to make it flow/spread better. Had no problems when applied over acrylics. Take care with detergents, though: just a few drops. If not, it may remove/discolor acrylics. Flores :D

Habu, And how do you remove, or repair the AS-12, if something goes wrong? Regards, Flores

Washing powder soap mixed with water. Just dip the kit/part in for 15 minutes or so, and use a soft wide brush to remove what is left - usually, very little. That easy. Flores

I still use enamels for the base coat. If fumes were not so harmful to your health, if cleaning not so messy; if paint removal were easy in case something goes wrong, I would RATHER USE ENAMELS instead of acrylics. Acrylics are not harmful, cleaning and paint removal are much easier. If something goes wrong I simply ditch the kit in water mixed with a liquid detergent or a washing powder, for half hour, and then I easily remove he paint with a soft brush (the enamel base coat is preserved) However, what drives me mad with acrylics is the sandpaper looks I get most of the time. I only us
