  1. As a former maintainer of F-117 Avionics, I was on the airframe for 3 years, 88-91, and deployed to Desert Shield/Storm. Initially when the 117 was displayed publically there were 4 radar reflectors, 2 cylinders and the 2 diamond shapes. The cylinders were placed behind each main gear and the diamonds were in the usual spot on the side of the fuselage. After a little while the cylinders weren't used anymore, I've no idea why. The Anti-collision lights are NON-retractable and were removed and the area rammed over for combat ops. Hope this helps, Brad
  2. I'm old enough to remember watching the last few missions launch, Ive always loved the Saturn V. I'd like two of these kits to put on top of my 1/48 Saturn V and IB. I am not too concerned about the details either, I can scratchbuild well enough to make it look alright. Its amazing how huge those boosters are compared to the Redstone stack. One of these days I'll attempt a Titan booster for the Gemini capsule to have the full set.
  3. Anyone know when its being released or should be hitting store shelves? Over at Cybermodeler.com it dropped off the release list. Originally it said Dec. Also the Revell site has it on the Dec release list. Curious that no one in here has mentioned the kit. I know its based on the blk 1 capsule, but it is a release I havent seen since for decades and I want one...or two! TIA
  4. As a current avionics specialist on the Hawg, I can verify it is the glidesope antenna for the ILS. The radome is not painted black, its a rubberish coating to allow for signal pass-through. Ingrediants in aircraft paint blocks rf energy, no antenna on aircraft is actually painted, if it is, it should be replaced. The antennas for the radar altimeter, yes radar, are located under the horizontal stab and on the outsides of the verticals.
  5. Nope, no honeycomb on this plane. That is fuel absorbant foam.
  6. I was hoping for the tile decals. Real space doesnt have 1/72 tile or marking decals. If he does, he has'nt updated the site since early 2010. I really would have thought with the re-issue of the stack kit that more aftermarket parts/decals would happen.
  7. Where is everyone getting the aftermarket decals for the 1/72 shuttles? I checked realspacemodels.com and cultman, neither has them listed. I know a few years ago some were put out by Cutting Edge but those seem to be discontinued. My purchase of the shuttle stack depends on if I can get the decals. TIA. Brad
  8. "Weird how it caught fire. I'm wondering if there wasn't already a fire when they put it down. Electrical perhaps?" I just read and article that said the plane had been grounded over the weekend due to mechanical issues. Shortly after it took off to leave the area the tower recieved a call saying it had a fire onboard and was returning....didnt make it sadly. The scene in the video looks like it could have happened at an airfield in France or England almost 70 years ago.
  9. Just saw on Fox News that a B-17 went down near Aurora Il. Looks like a G model, overall silver with a yellow formation stripe on the right wing, a yellow rudder and a boxed-J symbol on the tail. Anyone know what aircraft this might be? All crew are safe but we should mourn the loss of a historic aircraft that is becoming rarer by the day. Brad Update. I searched Airfighters.com for pics and it looks like the aircraft was B-17G 42-97849, nose art "Liberty Belle', operated by the Liberty Foundation. All the pics there are copyrighted. http://www.airfighters.com/photo/33067/M/Private-Liberty
  10. None...Bf-110's were pulled from attacking bomber formations for at least the last year of the air war. They were too vulnerable to allied fighters, at first the P-47 and P-38 then the P-51. Even the 110 replacement the Me-210/410 was pulled from that duty. Before then some were used as night-fighters but those went the way of the dodo too. The 110's usefullness started to decline during the Battle of Britain and was pretty much over by 1943.
  11. I hope 'WIF' means 'what if'. Because the USAF has never, and probably 99.9% won't aquire any 'I' models. Those are built specifically for Israel using alot of thier own electronics. And for that matter, E's or F's either.
  12. I'm glad your way works for you and no it isnt difficult, but he asked about an Air Force plane, we dont use port or starboard. Thats Navy talk. So instead of remembering "long words go together, short words go together", I (and apparently a few others) remember "red isnt right".
  13. According to international aviation laws, all aircraft have green on the right, red on the left. I always rememeber that "red is not right". And its always the same on top and the bottom.
