  1. OK, another question... Why do Russian military airbases often lack hangers and other support buildings? I can't even see a control tower here. Lot's of interesting secured areas to the south though.
  2. One thing that really puzzles me is why it would take 14 years to go there the second time when it basically took the same amount of time to go there the first time. Would not today's computer aided design and more advanced technology shave a lot of development time? Especially when a lot of proven technology is being borrowed. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20061205/ap_on_sc/nasa_moon In any event, I think social security is scheduled to be bankrupt about the same time, so I doubt anyone is going anywhere. Ok fellas, what do you think?????
  3. That effect was tough on planes like the f-106, just as you wanted to rotate on take-off your elevators are imparting a downward force, adds to the take roll and speed required. I believe the fixed canards produced a vortex that increased lift which helped somewhat. The fly by wire "unstable" aircraft are different in that the center of gravity does not have to be inbetween the center of lift and the moment of control, that reduces the advantage of canards.
  4. http://www.f-16.net/news_article2059.html William Tell winners, 0 accident rate, converted to a under-equipped transport outfit. Sad...
  5. This is my first winter with an airbrush. I use it in the garage and now the temperature is below freezing. Does anyone have any tips? I prefer to spray acrylics.
  6. nobody died, a jet got a little banged up, no big deal, they will figure it out. life goes on, lets have fun here!!!
  7. look at the last two pictures, the details around the cockpit vary alot. For example that triangular patch in front is visable in one and not the other. That paint is doing odd things with the glare.
  8. Here is a good tip. On the left side of the google earth interface is a long list of folders. Double click on google earth community. There will be another list, one of which is Military. Click on it. Now when you zoom around you will see little icons where other google earth users have flagged various military sites. Click on the icons and sometimes a brief user forum will appear where users discuss these sites. North Korea has a lot of new coverage. Check out each air and naval base, there is always somekind of underground facility nearby. Taiwan does too.
  9. there are some other nice photos on that site, check out the mig-31 take-off http://www.airforce.ru/photogallery/galler...-31bm/index.htm
  10. notice the retractable wheel chocks in the deck, they can spool up the engines then release. I am puzzled as to why the deck was not designed to allow longer take-off rolls, it seems like a minor extension to the port-aft deck would allow a lot more room.
  11. All the aim-54 needed was the air-2a's warhead. Then you would of had something!!!
  12. AIM-7's on a F-111?? Tell us more!!!! Anyone have photos?????
  13. Your comments are right on. They stretched a one hour show into a two hour show. The continual misery was tiresome. Hopefully they are setting something up for later.
