  1. Now, that's funny! And a whole lot "warmer" than normal Northern sledding! Alvin5182
  2. Alex: I know they did in black and they also did a sheet (C-63-72) with "RESCUE" in dayglo............no "SAUVETAGE" tho. Others may know more. Alvin5182
  3. Gents: I have to go with Les on this one! He had vision and a heart. Sad to be struck down so early in life. "Just give me some truth", "Imagine"! Alvin5182
  4. Gents: You didn't have to be a Cowboy fan to like Don Merideth! He was bright, funny, fair and a great "foil" for Howard Cosell. He had knowledge of the game, as it existed back then. Wish those types of guys were still around. Chris Collingsworth is about the only one who comes close. Joe Buck? PffffffffT Alvin5182
  5. Gents: In with 72nd scale Harvard IIB. (academy-converted) Alvin5182
  6. It sure has been a fun ride! A few "bumps" along the way but this is still the place to come to. Congrats Steve on 11 Yrs! May there be many more. Alvin5182
  7. RIP Walter! Poor guy isn't even in the ground yet and people are planning how to get the collection and what they want to do with it , all on line. Pretty sad. Check out the "shennanigans" on Warbird Information Exchange. Alvin5182
  8. Armando: I have the verlinden instructions for you along with a set of landing gear and wheels. Anything else you need? Al
  9. Andy: Nothing wrong with that at all. Keep posting and welcome aboard! Alvin5182
  10. Armando: I'm pretty sure I have the instructions for the Verlinden set. I'll get back to you Monday if you haven't found out anything else. Al

    D-Day Stripes

dews: Re: Invasion stripes Look up RAF and RCAF aircraft (spitfires) and you can see they were painted with everything from hand brushes to brooms to mops. They went over EVERYTHING. But of course, there are exceptions. You need to find a photo of the particular plane you want to model and go from there. Lots of people on here who have an interest in that "era and have lots of resources. Try spitfiresite.com to start. Alvin5182
  12. Gents: That looks to be Walter Soplata's (sp?) farm which has been documented in the past. He has some real "gems" in that pile. The artsy video only shows about 10% of it. Well worth looking for articles about the gentleman and his "junk".. Alvin5182
  13. You mean I don't get the pony? I'm crushed! Alvin5182
  14. Mike: It would be the extended/modified "shock cone thingy" located at the front of the two intakes. Al Davis (alvin5182)
  15. Jay: Yes there was (and is) a real Y2-K ser #MK304. There is a pretty well known photo of that particular a/c having an engine pulled shortly after the invasion while serving with 442 Sqn (RCAF). A "real" Y2-K is presently undergoing restoration in British Columbia but will eventually end up at Vintage Wings of Canada. I worked from the photo when building the model. I think I have a copy of the photo somewhere on my hard drive if you really want to have a look at it. Can't seem to find the photo I worked from on my hard drive, but the photo appears in "Spitfire-The Canadians" by Robert Brac
  16. Joseph: I've built quite a few of them over the years and YES, they do require some extra work. Lots of sanding off the thick sprue gates and cleaning up of parts BUT they do look right when done. Parts from other commercially available Spits are easily adapted to work with these planes. I've used Italieri, Academy, Hasegawa and the old Cooper details set on them with what I think was reasonable success. The first one I built was the Spitfire Mk 18 which I backdated to make an FR14. I've built two MK VIIIs, Mk IX, MkXI, Two MK 14s, Seafire 15 and Seafire 47 still have a few in the stash. I'v
  17. Mike: I'm pretty sure I have a coy of that "somewhere" if you want it. I'll check and get back to you if the other thing doesn't "happen"! al davis
  18. Gents: I'm guessing FIFA doesn't pay that well! Alvin5182
  19. Todd: i would like (as well as many others) to see any photos you may have. They are interesting aircraft in an interesting era. As well they are a pleasant change from the European Theatre Hurricanes for the modeling community. Looking forward anything you may want to offer up. Alvin5182
  20. Stunning photos from an absolutely fabulous looking airshow. Well done! Alvin5182
  21. Shane: the instructions for the Azur 72nd scale NA-57 have Aeronavale markings circa 1940 as one of the choices. Have you seen that? If not I could scan the sheet and send you a copy. Alvin5182
  22. Nice clean build! Reminds me, I should restart mine! Straight out of the box? Alvin5182
  23. Patrick: Very nicely done! A great looking model. alvin5182
