  1. I am using kitchen foil to cover a Monogram 1/48 F-80C. I am using cheap, thin foil, not suitable for baking. I am using Microscale Foil adhesive and following the instructions. I am applying the glue to the less shiny side of the foil. I am applying the glue using a dropper and then brushing it with a 1" brush. I am having this problem: the glue is 'fish-eyeing', where after being applied smoothly with a wide brush holes or gaps open up in the glue layer. I have tried the following to alleviate this: 1. Thin the glue with a little 100% IPA 2. Thin the
  2. Thanks...but have you found any others with the fuselage and wing tank stripes? It seems to me this aircraft had very unique markings. Jon
  3. I'm beginning to think you're right. Which is annoying because it's not entirely clear how many stripes there are (I think two) and what their geometry is! Nevertheless, I shall have a go at adding them... Jon
  4. Thanks for the replies! Here's a higher res image: If you follow this link it should be a bit bigger: https://jonbryoncom.files.wordpress.com/2019/03/spirit-of-hobo-2-big.jpg Jon
  5. Hello, I am making Monogram's 1/48 F-80C in markings from Microscale (48-164), which seem to be rather poorly researched. I am attempting to make this aircraft (FT-591 'Spirit of Hobo' from the 80th FBS in 1952): I have the following questions: 1. Is it just me, or does it look like there are yellow flashes on the *horizontal* tail surfaces in the second photo above? No manufacturer who has issued these markings (Microscale, Aeromaster, Airfix, Hasegawa) has interpreted the scheme in this way, but I am sure I can see some
  6. Yes. And if you have the VF-111 boxing, the markings are for an F-4N anyway. You just need to change the undernose pod (it comes in the kit). Jon
  7. I'm thinking of taking this approach and will start looking out for a very cheap Revell/Monogram A-10. Has anyone compared fuselage cross sections around the cockpit area? I've no interest in building an entire Monogram A-10. Rescribing is a PITA. Jon
  8. Thanks Larry. A very fair point. I usually don't flatten tyres as I have enormous problems aligning them, and that would have been much worse with this kit as the wheels flop around on a conical attachment peg. But I wish I did have an easy way of putting a little flat in the right place! Jon
  9. Hello all, This is my first kit of 2019 and plugs a gap in my series of MiG jets. It's ICM's 1/48 MiG-25PDS in kit decals and with Cold War Studios resin ventral fins. The paint is a mixture of MRP and Akan finished with Gunze GX113 matt coat. It was a a fun kit, although not without it's problems. It's also huge! Many more photos and words on my website: https://jonbryon.com/icm-1-48-mikoyan-gurevich-mig-25pds-foxbat-e/ Comments welcome and thanks for looking. Jon (Apologies to those for whom the images are distorted. No idea how or why that occ

  11. Yes, I believe the items are still made in Russia. That's certainly where they are posted from. I have not tried to fit the intakes to the HB kit although I've been led to believe they will fit with some minor work. Jon
  12. Are you sure? I ordered from DMold in December and, as usual, the items came from Russia. I'm in the UK and postage was very reasonable. Jon
  13. Thanks. That one is in Ukranian markings. Was it the same airframe? Cheers Jon
  14. Thanks HomeBe - I've seen that too. I've not given it much credence as the artist thinks the nose and tail dialectric panels are green! One of the things I'd like to establish is whether the anti-glare panel was neatly painted with a hard edge, or badly sprayed with a fuzzy edge. Cheers Jon
  15. Hello, I'm building ICM's 1/48 MiG-25PDS, which is pretty nice. I want to use one of the kit options, which is Blue 56 from 146GvIAP at Vasilkov in 1989 (according to the instructions). I've done a fair amount of googling and have two monographs on the MiG-25, but cannot find any photos of this aircraft. Does anyone know of any that ICM may have used as their source material? And while I'm at it, I've not found a single decent photo of the top of an operational MiG-25, especially around the engine area. Anyone know of any? Many thanks for any help
  16. I'd like to get a turn table to assist with painting and I see Tamiya do one. My question is, can it be clamped in some way so it doesn't rotate when you don't want it to? Does anyone know of any turn tables with such a feature? Thanks Jon
  17. Some people prefer the Italeri to the Hobby Boss. I think the market is still waiting for a better A-10. In the meantime, I have gone with HB... Jon
  18. Thanks Marvin - that's really helpful! Jon
  19. Hello, I'm building ICM's 1/48 MiG-25PDS, which is pretty nice. They say I should paint the inside of intakes in steel, but the problem is I don't know where the demarcation should be between this and the camouflage grey. Does the grey wrap around the intake lips, or not? I'm making the Soviet option. Thanks for any help Jon
  20. Here is my latest and final build for 2018: Hasegawa's 1/48 F-40E Warhawk in Brazilian markings from 1953. The decals are by FCM and are absolutely terrible. The paint is Mr Color 8 Silver. A full build article is at https://jonbryon.com/hasegawa-1-48-curtiss-f-40e-warhawk/. I am aware the area behind the rear canopy should probably be silver. Comments welcome and thanks for looking. Jon
  21. He must be recently out of stock as I ordered one last Wednesday and it's on its way. From experience I'd keep checking and he'll have it again soon (except for the Do17 tail which is permanently out of stock and which I REALLY WANT!). 🙂 Jon
