  1. Don't know enough about civil aircraft to know the sub-type Aer Lingus used. Don't even know if the Revell kit has the right engines. And is there any 1/144 Aer Lingus 747 decals (tried Max decals... don't know any other manufacturer who does Irish stuff....) Cheers, Roy

I still think, all politics aside, that if you are going to build a pair of new carriers from scratch, build them with catapults and arresting gear, that way the ships won't be limited to the life of one aircraft type. You can still fly a V/stovl type from a conventional carrier, but not the other way around. To me (no politics here) it still makes more sense to go with the French proposal to share the carrier building program and buy Rafales off the shelf. And my long time question, why was there never a Naval version of the Eurofighter designed?
  3. Thanks, that makes sense except..... Do they really need a whole squadron of backseaters? Seems like that could be accomplished with 4 airframes, like the TARPS Tomcats. And for the other roles, are the -E drivers at a disadvantage in having to do everything while still driving the thing?
  4. Ok, I'll ask it again another way... What will the -Fs be able to do that the -Es can't?
  5. So the F/A-18As and -Cs were front line combat aircraft, the -Bs mostly trainers (but combat capable) as were the -Ds but some of them were also 'night attack', in the style of the A-6. Correct? So..... The Super Hornet replaces the F-14, in the attack (first) and fighter (second) role, where the F-14 was the other way around, so why is there need for a second seat in the -F, if it has the same role as the -E? Or if it needs both crew, why is the poor -E driver expected to do it all on their own? The -Fs aren't all trainers, and they don't have a different radar than the -E, do they? Oh, br
  6. What he said.... Also I've found on my older D&S sheets that the 'glue' for the decals has yellowed to some degree, so give them a good soaking and a wash with the brush IN THE WATER before you remove them to place on the model. You will see the glue break away in chunks in the water. Got some brown/yellow stains on a Fujimi F-14 to prove it, and they didn't show up until the decals were on a couple of days. hth

    JackMan

Cheers Jega, thanks for the trader trade! Folks. Trade with confidence! JackMan is A1!
  9. Probably won't get the SplinterViggen done either, as I just posted my airbrush back to Testors today! GRRRR.....` this is where she's at....
  10. Before you argue, it's the pair of A-7s in 1/720 scale. Also built the old Monogram 1/785ish CV-67 USS John F Kennedy to put them on, my first carrier with an airbrush finish. Used a lot of Italeri spare fittings and some left-over GMM PE for the radar mast. The ship's own mast has new yardarms from strip styrene. More aircraft on the way, but the real ship herself is about to be decomissioned within the next few months, so this is my little tribute to her.
  11. Very nice. Looks a lot better than mine! C'mon now, show us the alouette!
  12. Nice portrait shot here.. http://www.dodmedia.osd.mil/DVIC_View/Stil...SC-92-04281.JPG hth Roy
  13. Do you mean something like this? http://s102164210.onlinehome.us/forums/ind...=100346&hl= Depending on what scale you are talking about I can help. Mine are 1/72 scale. I used the deck from an Italeri Nimitz-class, which just happens to be 1/720 scale. Seeing as it's 1/10th 1/72 I just measured and multiplied everything by 10. I also suggest the forum and features on this site... http://www.carrierbuilders.net/ Roy
  14. Who's St Patty? I have heard of St Paddy. Distant cousin maybe? Get it right guys! Nice scheme too!
  15. See here for my last build with Hasegawa (and others) decals. Decals are a mix of Hasegawa new tool F-14A, Fujimi, Hasegawa old tool Hi Vis, and some Expert's Choice for the Nat Insig. http://s102164210.onlinehome.us/forums/ind...mp;#entry935236
  16. Sounds normal then. Cheers, Roy
  17. Got a compressor that bears an uncanny resemblance to one marketed in FSM as an Iwata sprint jet. See here http://www.dickblick.com/zz250/48/ It's identical except for not having any badges. Anyway, when I set the pressure to anything above 24 psi the pressure drops to 20 psi when I spray. Even setting it to a full blast (35psi+) when cleaning the airbrush, the pressure drops to 20 when the trigger is pressed. It's not really an issue, as I spray almost always at 20 psi or less. Just wondering.
  18. Let me check the pile of junk and see. I built that kit about 9 years ago. Might still have the instructions.
  19. Thanks Bob, but mine is an A430 model, no roller adjustment. I think Glockster's post answers the question, I always thought the Aztek "THING" was a sudden failure, but mine's been slowly getting worse over the last 8 months or so. I tried Steve's suggestion last night, filled the 8cc colour cup with lacquer (cellulouse) thinner, kept the air line primed and left it overnight. No change. Looks like it'll be going back then. I'll try the shop where I bought it first. If they'll take it back I won't be down time for modelling. If not, nothing lost. Cheers, Roy
  20. Aztek A430, about 4-5 years old now, no issues so far, cleaning tips and inside of nozzle as per ARC proceedure for as long as it's pinned. Spraying Humbrol enamels, occasionally Xtracolour and (once only) Klear. Been happly spraying away until the last few months, where the thing was spraying a little as soon as the trigger was depressed (but not pulled back). Assumed the tips were wearing out (as in the needle hole had got too big) so bought another set of my 3 suspects (tan, grey and turqoise). They seemed to be worse, so put in the old grey that is now over 2 years old, and was slightly
  21. Interesting, am I the only one who sees 2 completly different shades of light gull grey on the 2 Phantoms in the pic?
  22. Um, the Airfix (and it's Heller VF-84 boxing) has the probe and door option for opened or closed. No detail in the well, but yes the door and probe is there.
  23. I also wondered the same thing. The rest of the series seems to be well repected, so why not this one? Yes, the claims are outlandish, but if you are semi-sceptical, and assume one kill report has grown legs over time and become 6 or 7 confirmed, that still means the Ali-Cats scored around 20 kills. The truth is we will never know for sure, but so far that book is the best info we have. They must have had significant success though, and for the following logical reasons; IN the 1991 'second' Gulf War even the US admitted that the Iraqis ran like hell when US Navy F-14s were threatening them
