  1. Now I know why there is no Hasegawa F-14s in local model shop........ Outstanding work! (secretly glad to know the master also has troubles with Has Tomcat canopies.....) What DO you do for a living to have the time for all this? A jealous Roy
  2. Andy, nice work. What's your formula for spraying Hu 21 to get a gloss (non orange peel)? PM inbound.
  3. Oh, and if anyone is wondering why I have two from the same squadron, see here.... http://s102164210.onlinehome.us/forums/ind...00346&st=15
  4. Well 2 years in the making.... Well, as a thanks for all the help and advice Here's a few pics of the damn thing.... Notice the canopy gap here.. Notice the different paint between the two here... AJ207 is the Fujimi kit started at the same time as the Has.. Aeroclub seats fitted better that the kit ones, decals are a mix of kit-supplied, Fujimi, Hasegawa old tool Hi Vis, and some Expert's Choice for the Nat Insig. Engine fairings turned out a different shade than the rest of the fuse, as did the u/c doors but you don't see it there.. Considering all the grief I got from this
  5. Thanks folks, maybe I was spoiled by building 3 Fujimi F-14As first before this? But it's not any one big issue, but the loads and loads of little things that are getting to me. Like the gap under the vertical fins, the ones painted and decalled before being attached (yes, I did dryfit and trimmed off the mould lines before doing anything.....)
  6. Thanks Andy, The issue with the canopy is that it fits on the forward sill line, or the rear, but not both. Also, the angle of the rear frame doesn't match with the surrounding fuselage area! And if I put the 'shelf' in the canopy (bit behind the RIO's seat) the canopy wont touch the sills at all behind the front frame. Only for your site I would have ran into more trouble. Admittedly, I am not happy about a lot of this build that is a result of my own fault (orange-peel and not full coverage of topcoat paint). But then I put the seats in and when placing the canopy on top it bent the ejecti
  7. Please. I know there are plenty of posts and info on how a tough build this is, but really, everything seems to be twice as difficult as it needs to be. This is my first Has new tool. I have 2 more -D kits, VF-31 and -213 last cruise boxings that I really want, and the -B boxing that I bought specially for the VF-103 decals, as well as another -A. Just wrapping up a kit I started nearly 2 years ago, for the ARC F-14 GB (the first one, not the Sunset build). After bouts of neglect from fatigue with it's fit issues, and fiddly-ness of some of the components, I've tried to make a spurt on it re
  8. Voted for all (currently in the majority ). would only buy one set though!
  9. What about cutting the steel frets that GMM use for some of their 1/720 carrier sets? Any ideas?
  10. 23-24 Galway, Ireland :( First time any US display team will have displayed here! :D I can see all the anti-fun protesters getting fits when they here this...... :) I am assuming there will be no Red Arrows this year then, pity, but for a free airshow, not to worry. The only dissapointment is if you want to see the ground demo and get pics of the planes you'll have to be in Shannon Airport, and the display is in Salthill, so you can't see both!
  11. Some possible useful items here.... http://www.jbmodels.co.uk/kits.html Also some in the Hasegawa equipment sets (but no trucks) scroll down, sets 5 and 6 http://www.hlj.com/hljlist2/?Scale=72&...p;GenreCode=All Also, maybe consider soe of the new chinese made diecast cars, Newray or Cararama brands, I think they do trucks as well, they are listed as 1/72 and the detail is amazing.
  12. I dunno, check the video here.... going fast enough for me! :P http://www.patricksaviation.com/videos/Richard/931/
  13. Heller 1/72 SAAB AJS-37 Viggen. Model Alliance (Hawkeye Models Australia) Decals, Tamiya tape seatbelts, wire seat handle. Staple pitots. Rest OOB. Roy
  14. Well, she's finished! Only dropped her twice when attaching undercarraige. Only damage is a small dent in trailing edge of one wing and the lead ballast that was stuck to the back of the cockpit is now loose. Replaced the pitots with a staple that was rounded with a file, cut and superglued into pre drilled holes. Used a Tamiya Smoke/IPA wash on the U/C. The formation light decals (Hawkeye ones) were translucent, the Heller ones were so badly printed to be useless, So I backed the Hawkeye ones with spare slime light decals from an old Detail & Scale sheet. It was also fun g

Buy with confidence, no problems here! Cheers, Roy
  16. you can also squeeze some out into your airbrush colour cup, add some cellulouse (lacquer) thinner, stir and spray away. Seems dry enough to me that way!
  17. Here is as far as I've got with the 2 seater, painting (and masking )will take a bit of time methinks... B) Got a lot on at the moment (looking for a new job.. :D ) so modelling way down on the priority list.....
  18. Update on progress... decalling underway... and finished... The underside wing pylons were taked in place before painting began, then removed before decalling, so the ghosts could go under the pylons. The corresponding areas were painted white before the pylons were permanently attached. She has been finished. Will post pics when I get the camera out again. She's already had her first Sortie (model show in Waterford last Sunday).
  19. That's 3 decal sheets I owe him! Cheers RJ Roy
  20. I'd just like to get hold of the kit.. never mind decals....
  21. So drag it up here as well to feed the rumours a bit more, eh?

  24. The gripen is the Italeri tool; better get the italeri boxing as the decals are better, or if it's a lot cheaper and you plan to use AM decals, go for the Airfix box.
