  1. Mental!!! I know what I'm getting when I win the lotto.... Although, the ship model is a mish-mash of refits, the large mast behind the island is only relevant for after 1986/before 1999, (Trumpy's 1/350 makes the same mistake..) the ship is missing CIWS for the same period, has the later sea sparrow launchers but is missing the directors for same, although some of the platforms for the directors are there; this is not correct for 1978, as isn't the placement of the "68" on the starboard side of the island....
  2. Just found this; http://s362974870.onlinehome.us/forums/air/index.php?showtopic=255446 All I need to know. that'll teach me to do a search first....
  3. Hi all, This is my constantly evolving/updating want list of spare parts and decals. Wondering if anyone has got any of the following to spare.. I'm looking to raid your 1/72 AMARC Davis-Monthan collections... Will buy or trade and cover postage costs!!!! (Thanks to those who have helped out in the past, much appreciated!) Decals; New wants; Caracal 72-087 and 72-013; Just the first prototype option from Caracal sheets for the F-15 and F-16. Fox-One decals 72-001, just the VF-92 section for Curt Dose's Silverkite 211. 4. It's not the same as a C-1 is it? I know that I have to fill in the underfuse radar, cover and fair over the sonobouy launchers at the rear of the nacelles, delete the searchlight and pod above the cockpit. What else? Cheers, Roy edit; just found that Hasegawa do a special boxing of a US-2B, but I don't see any windows in the kit. Should there be windows?
  5. Hi all, Just recently picked up an old issue Italeri C-130E (Fat Albert Boxing) at a show, for a song and while the decals are probably shot it did come with a set of resin longer engine nacelles. Are these applicable to the -E model, or should I leave them off? I will need to get some aftermarket decs for this, so to ensure I get something appropriate what marks of Herc can I build from the box with/without my resin engines? I'm aware that the kit may have some shape issues, but if the only difference is a few aerials I'll plug on. (I'm not going to put AC-130 or C-130J decs on a C-130E, b
  6. Starting to look like a shuttle..... Was fun trying to get all this lined up at once... still not convinced it's right.... Have to stop getting ahead of myself with decalling, more paint is needed on the white areas.... (yellow white, grey white, off white.... oh dear, I'm starting to sound like an interior designer....:hypno:
  7. Got paint on the orbiter as well, and then got ahead of myself with decalling.. I've experimented with trying to create a representation of the tile effect. The longer the Shuttles have been in service, the "whiter" the underside "black" tiles have become. To their credit, Revell Germany's painting instructions advise this and also to give a soft demarcation edge between the underside (belly) and cheek (fuse sides) "black". I could tell you how I did this, but then I'd have to kill you. Suffice to say it involves Bare-Metal Laser Printer compatible decal paper and the latest generation bra
  8. I've finished painting the ET and SRBS. Clipped together here, I reckon I now own shares in Tamiya for all the masking tape I've used. I'm happy with the result though. I still need to add a few patches of yellow to the top, just noticed...:-$ This particular tank was damaged during Hurricane Katrina but repaired for flight status and used on STS-134, hence all the patchwork. And the other side... The photo flash tends to washout the various whites used on the SRBs. Here's the real deal from STS-134 (Photo credit; NASA)
  9. Hey Bill, It's been over a year but I'm still here and still making glacial progress on this one. Hope you don't mind me adding a few more pics of mine. If so I'll start another thread.. Ok, no updates for a while but I was going somewhere with it. I thought I might have it finished in time for the nats but I decided I didn't want to rush it. So here's some more recent pics... got the Mobile Launch Platform painted and last bits together. This is really only an approximation of what a real MLP looks like. However, it is fine for my purposes as a display base and looks slightly more inter
  10. Don't know what I was doing wrong. Searched Ford Mustang, mustang configurator, ford 2012 mustang, 2012 mustang and several other combinations, and never got anywhere. Best result was from "Mustang" which brought up about 40% of all posts ever.... and even though I scrolled through 12 pages of results before giving up, still never saw it... only arguments about Tamiya prices and Dragon shapes & panel lines.... Cheers Flyboyf18, many thanks, Roy
  11. Need to see the pics of the black 1:1 car again. TIA Roy
  12. Yes, it's a dual exhaust. Surprise for the OH. So needs to look right, at least on the outside.... as I said, engine is not a huge priority. Cheers, Roy
  13. Hi Wayne, I need to make a replica of a particular car, have plenty of reference photos but it is a stock V6 convertible, identical to the one in the link save for tan interior rather than black. So I need the stock wheels and the front bumper, (dunno about the rear one) instead of the GT one in both kits (snap & regular). Looks like I'll have to scratch both. The Shelby bumper is closer but too large.
  14. From the Revell 1/25 2010 Mustang? I'm not too worried about the engine bay but is there any conversion available for the front bumper/grille and wheels? Any other notable differences? I'm trying to build this car.. http://www.everycarlisted.com/fl/orlando/ford/mustang/vin-1zvbp8en3a5172189 I have a couple of the Revell snap convetibles on the way and a pair of the regular 2010 hardtop kits and will mix'n'match to get a detailed convertible. Is there any source of the wheels on a diecast for example? TIA, Roy
  15. Hi John, The Arii Midway while stated as 1/800 actually works out at very close to 1/730 so fits in lovely with the Italeri and Revell carriers. Nice build here; http://www.shipmodels.info/mws_forum/viewtopic.php?f=59&t=18158 Scroll down about 2/3rds on the first page. Then a few pages after shows a conversion of Midway kit to Coral Sea. Much, much, much later is one to FDR. Big long thread there... HTH Roy

  17. And second time around, after only 5 bids, it went for....... Drum roll..... US $719.25 What are these people on?
  18. Well, (unsurprisingly) it's been relisted. Just to be clear, I never called into question the sellers ethics. I've seen them on ebay for a long time, and I think I may have even bought from them in the distant past. What gets me though is not just the strange bidding of the newbie (Bid on 185 listings with no feedback) but that two other experienced ebayers were willing to pay $605 and $653.99 respectively. Why don't my auctions go like that?
  19. Matchbox Flower-class Corvette. http://www.ebay.ie/itm/380362177916?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 A great kit, no doubt, but I bought mine on ebay a couple of years ago for €25 including post. Admittedly, it was a Revell Germany re-issue, don't know how much the original Matchbox packaging adds to the price. But this is just pure dumb..... And looking at the bid history makes it even weirder....
  20. Interesting. Guess there's no money in casinos these days. http://www.china.org.cn/china/2011-08/10/content_23176582.htm Now, what do I need to do to convert my Italeri Kuznetsov kit into this?!!
  21. Looking for the following, DECALS; Partial sheet of Wolfpack Decals 72-003 (Getting desperate!) I'm just after the B-52 bit, but willing to purchase the full sheet if needed. Have loads to trade, if preferred. It's from this sheet; http://www.modelingmadness.com/scotts/decals/wp/wp72003.htm Now also looking for the AV-8A VMA-231 USS FDR option from Wolfpack thanks 2010 sheet. If you have any spare decals for the old Monogram F7F Tigercat and F8F Bearcat, got 2 original issue kits, but the decals are shot in both. Anything usable considered. KIT BITS! Emhar 1/72 F3H Demon windscreen.
  22. So I took file in hand, took a deep breath and filed away as much as I dared to get a straight line on order to fit a 1mm shim cut from a sheet of plastic card. Some cursing and filling later, here's the result. Almost ready for primer. More later.. hopefully!
