Hot Damn, found a couple old shots of 151473! First one from 1979 Airshow... Man those were the days, live ordinance and and Ejection seat firing! Second shot 1984 and it does have a nose number... Sorry for the rotten scans but I couldn't find the negatives to use, so I just scanned the small photo's! Cheers, Larry.

Just saw 1473 two weeks ago at China Lake's Aircraft Survivability Lab. It's assembled but not refurbashed... Don't know the timeline for repainting. Thanks Craig for correcting it's designation of YF-4J! It was great watching it spit a seat out! Cool stuff. Cheers, Larry.

Thanks Brian! I hope you get that one too! Have you seen the Weird Al video about ebay? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HYokLWfqbaU...feature=related Cheers, Larry.

Hi Cyrus. No the model is in tack now, the accident happened a few years ago. I put just a little to much pressure on the top of my display cabinet and the glass shattered all over my collection. Almost distroyed my VX-5 Monogram F/A-18A did a little damage to an Hasegawa F-14A and took it's toll on the SR-71A. I will rebuild the F/A-18A some day but the F-14A was awarded to the "X" in the divorce. So it's lost forever... Got pictures of it though! Cheers, Larry.

Hi Nick! Weeeelllll sometime ago I was at an Edwards AFB open house and the Blackbird was on display. I snapped a boatload of pictures or at least what I could see and used that as my reference for all the covers. The Aerofax book(s) were out as well and used them for other items... It's a big mutha too but mighty impressive to look at both in model form and in real life! Thanks for the comments and for all your help on the F/A-18E!!! Cheers, Larry.

Hi Brian. I'm not trying to steal this thread but thought some photo's of the 1/48th Testors kit might be appropriate. I built this kit in 1985 and did a few things to it to enhance it a bit, front wheel well was rebuilt, Cockpit was enhanced with a few items I scratchbuilt, re-scribed completely and made the intake and probe covers. The problem with the kit for me was the long seam on the bottom around the chin, wings and the like, as others have suggested. Overall it built like most kits that I was building at the time, Monogram mostly. Here are the photo's I took after I re-built it

Very nice, thanks for answering my questions! Are you taking "Pre-orders?" Cheers, Larry McCarley 21045

Hey Ryan. How's it going Take a look at this Monogram Mirage 2000 I did a long time ago, the side consoles and Instrument Panel were all scratch built and I used the punch & die that you've got. Still doesn't look to bad for mid 80's... Cheers, Larry McCarley 21045

And where are the VX-9 Super Hornet sheets? <_< But really folks, Very nice lookin sheets you've got there. :D Some time ago I asked if you could include the Yellow/White with Black pinstripe warning placards for the Spin Recovery panel, the Master arm panel, and the ECM panel on the instrument panel and you were going to see if you could print those up...is that a possibility on these or some furture sheets? Oh and when will these sheets for VX-23 and 30 be released? Great contribution to modeling you are doing. Cheers, Larry.

Sounds good Dale. Can't wait to see that when you're done. Cheers, Larry McCarley 21045

Check here for the BRU-55/57A I think that's what you're looking for... http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/ac/equip/bru-57.htm Hope that helps... Cheers, Larry McCarley 21045

You can use all the acrylic you want it won't hurt the enamal one bit, although I'd rather use artist oils for a wash. Most use Future before they attempt the wash though. Looks like you've done a very nice job of sanding and it's ready for more Model Master to check seems, right, or is this the top coat? Whichever you've made the right choice to stick with your original brand...much safer that way. Cheers, Larry McCarley 21045

You can spray Enamal over Lacquer but not Lacquer over Enamal unless you use a barrier of some kind. Or, you mist it on really lightly. I've used Floquil Crystal Clear (very harsh on enamal) over Model Master many times though. That is a classic example of Lacquer over enamal! Which is what you said you did, Tamiya Spray can Lacquer over Model Master Enamal! Hope that helps Cheers Larry McCarley 21045

Great start on that EA-6B Benner and you should take Randy's advice on that Windscreen how too!!! That fared in Windscreen looks sweet! Great Job on that one Randy you don't see fared in Windscreens enough! Cheers, Larry McCarley 21045

According to the Meteor instructions and rhetoric, sounds like the cockpit might have been different at least in the rear. Not having the ARF probe when delivered but later retrofitted, the side consoles might have been different. Sure would like to know one way or the other. BTW the Meteor kit is very nice and has a very nice decal sheet that has the particular VX-5 F4H-1 that I want to build. The ejection seat from what I can tell is the early McDonnell seat. Does anyone have any good shots of one ( saw the drawing on the ejection site, http://www.ejectionsite.com/frame_sg.htm) so I can at

Having a minor problem with the Tamiya MLG Bay and Intake
Incaroad replied to AnthonyWan's topic in Jet Modeling
That's a good observation however that shaded area is suppose to be there and piece F-23 is suppose to fit down over the top of it, kinda making a snap fit. Then you apply cement and viola it's happy. It kinda looks as though piece F-23 was assembled first? That may be a solution for Anthony's Viper but that doesn't explain why it's necessary to alter the kit part "that much" to get everything to fit. Anything to get it together at this point is what's important though, great tip! Cheers, Larry McCarley 21045 -
Having a minor problem with the Tamiya MLG Bay and Intake
Incaroad replied to AnthonyWan's topic in Jet Modeling
As far as the step in the intake goes I solved that problem buy assembling the entire bottom and top separate and then assembled to entire unit to be stuck in as one piece. Cleaning up the sides seams looks easier than trying to do it where the step is. I can't bare the thought of closing up the intake so a little extra fitting and sanding the side seams looked like the best approach. Again to each their own but that's what I've done. The entire assembly can be attached to the lower fuselage half easily. Hope that kinda helps. Larry McCarley 21045 -
Having a minor problem with the Tamiya MLG Bay and Intake
Incaroad replied to AnthonyWan's topic in Jet Modeling
When I assembled the MLG bay I assembled it while it was sitting in the lower fuselage in it's final resting spot so all the bulkheads would sit where they were suppose too... Wait one I'll take another shot of the other end to see if it looks canted or not... I don't know...you be the judge but it looks pretty straight to me... again they aren't attached permanent yet. Hope that helps. Larry. -

This link will show you a couple miles from where I work and if you look real close; you will see one of 2 surviving F-111B's that are here! http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&...004275&z=18 Happy New Year! Larry. 21045 -
We need a new 1/48 scale F-5A,B,E,F & RF-5A & E.
Incaroad replied to aerofan's topic in Jet Modeling
No Black Box in 1985. If the kit couldn't supply what I needed then I built it myself. I can't remember where or how I came up with the closing mechanism. I wish I could though... Thanks for the comment! Cheers, Larry. -

Holy Crap the Monogram kit is a "PIG OF A KIT?!?!?!" I agree it would be nice to have a "New Tooled" kit but it doesn't take that much work to make a decent F-5E! Spent less than 40 hours on this kit back in "The Day" to make a very nice (In my opinion) model of a Top Gun F-5E You be the judge... Cheers, and Happy Modeling... Larry McCarley 21045
