  1. Netz has the right idea! Here is how I store my tube of superglue, and this is why I think mine seldom clogs up. I use a very small piece of PTFE tubing inserted in the end of the manufactures tube. By standing it up all the time the superglue makes it's way back down the tube and into it's reservoir. The only time it really ever clogs up is when my wife uses it to glue her fingernails back on... Moisture is the accelerator and inevitably puts a ball on the end. Usually it's an easy matter of taking the ball off the end, but sometimes it's a little deeper. The tube in the picture was just ch
  2. Like this or something else? Cheers Larry McCarley 21045
  3. I have a bunch of shots of 160775, living and working at China Lake helps. I really don't think it represents a prototype F-18A Hornet very well though... It's in great shape with a couple tons of paint on it, it should last forever... Graves_09, when were you at China Lake? Cheers
  4. Those raised panels are not on any Navy birds I've looked at. Take a look at this "N" and tell me where those raised panels are.... This one looks pretty slick to me except for that Antenna...
  5. BuNo would be helpful... I'd think they likely did but with the Numbers we may be able to narrow it down for you. Cheers Larry McCarley 21045
  6. Morning Ingo.

I've been correcting things along the way but mostly been engulfed with the rear cockpit these days. I won't be near the A/C intakes for a while.

I've narrowed down most of the troubled areas with the stabs and still trying to get the drawings done so I can move forward there too. All the fasteners and scribing had to go though.

    Cheers

  7. If you've seen, touched the kit, or looked at the many posts about Academy's F-4B release; you should know that; every short nosed version is gonna be released in the near future... To many parts not used to entertain any other conclusion. One can only assume that the E, EJ, G, and RF aren't to far behind... Wow, a real life thin winged RF-4B is in the wake? Some will be very excited about that... Cheers Larry McCarley 21045
  8. Outstanding Jeff, ETA on the finished product? Cheers Larry McCarley 21045
  9. You are so right! Hey Darren, did you finish your Academy F-4B? If you did I haven't seen it posted... Would love to see some pictures! Cheers Larry McCarley 21045
  10. Ingo, stick with the Academy Stabs, fill and rescribe... They really are the correct shape and look better than all the rest. I spent about 30 minutes filling in ALL the panel lines and then replotting correctly where they go with all the dimensions I've taken from the 1/1 example. I filled the panel lines and fastener detail with super glue. It's smooth as can be now; scribing to commence soon. I plan to post the corrected plotting soon so if you can wait a little while longer I'll have it up... Cheers Larry McCarley 21045
  11. Even with as many detail items found wrong this is still a very nice kit. Tain't no shake-n-bake kit fer sure, but when completed whether; out of the box, a few details corrected, or a full blown fix all the things that need fix-n to make that beautiful F-4B/N, it's gonna look like a Phantom II! I have a few things to write up concerning details and will do so in the thread I started, soon. Cheers Larry McCarley 21045
  12. More to come this coming week stay tuned... LOTS to talk about!!! Cheers Larry McCarley 21045
  13. This is a great way to discuss the Academy F-4 series. I was thinking of adding something about a hinge idea I'm working on for the Flaps and Ailerons but not sure if a new thread would be appropriate or just continue on with the detail post... Your thoughts on that? Oh yeah; Tommy Thomason's stuff is a very good reference! So look forward to all his posts! Good Job Gene! Cheers Larry McCarley 21045
  14. Both are included in the kit. Cheers Larry McCarley 21045
  15. Sounds great Ryan, looking forward to see that! Cheers Larry McCarley 21045
  16. Well there ya go! So would you feel the scrape or is there a warning light that tells you that you just "dragged your stabilizer, so put your nose down a little bit?" Learn more about this aircraft everyday! Thank you for the information. Cheers Larry McCarley 21045
  17. This is an interesting detail for the stabilizer. Wonder what it's actual function is (stiffens the end maybe) and how they came to the conclusion it was needed. Not that anyone would notice them on a 1/48th scale model but I think I will add them to the stabilizer just to see if anyone notices them. Cheers once again Larry McCarley 21045
  18. @ dehowie, I doubt the small percentage of people that read this thread and don't buy this kit due to the problems we are finding will make a dent in total numbers sold. Don't worry about more Phantom II's being produced, Academy will produce all the versions that the basic kit will adapt too. Next up will likely be a decal change to an "N" then onto a "C" "D," and so on and so forth... Just a guess at how it will go. The nicest thing about this kit is; the overall outline of it is very accurate as I've helped to illustrate (the nose issue from the beginning for one). The details are where
  19. A lot of people may like that approach as well as the IFR light. I have exact measurements for that light and surrounding metal if you'd like them. I will fill er in with super glue and plastic dust and take a stab at scribing in that puppy! The IFR light too. Good suggestion! Cheers Larry McCarley 21045
  20. I'm not sure where you picked up that I said this is a horrible kit. On the contrary, I think this is a really nice kit with a few glitches I'm trying to point out to those that might want to correct them. It will build into a fine replica of an F-4B/N right out of the box. Check D-Robs OOB build, it looks terrific! http://s362974870.onlinehome.us/forums/air/index.php?showtopic=258653 As far as the stabilizers go check this picture and those white lines should be going with the flow of air. Cheers Larry McCarley
  21. Here are three photo's that show how the burners go in as Academy states. There is a notch on the bottom of the wing panel that the burner slips into. Hope that helps with what you are looking for. Cheers Larry McCarley 21045
  22. Tomorrow or the 1st I will be taking some measurements of the Stabs and will report back with dimensions from the YF-4J I have access too. Should be quite interesting. Happy New Year! Larry McCarley 21045
  23. I forgot to mention that the well is sunk into the fuselage opening about .010... Also Academy didn't scribe in the Refueling light... See photo. I simulated approximately where it should go, what you see in the photo is Photoshopped. So if you are so inclined to correct... Happy New Year!
  24. I just keep finding more problems that will need attention from you that want your Phantom II's to look the part. I'm one that does...! I'm sure you all saw Elmo's fantastic F-4S right? Well after viewing his magnificent model I contacted him to find out how he did those remarkable "see-thru" stabs and he graciously let me in on his procedure! The Phantom I'm doing is BuNo 149452 that was a VX-5 F-4B and was ultimately turned into a China Lake QF-4B. Yep a "B" not an "N" and I have to have those see thru stabs like Elmo created for his "S." So I grab up the Academy stabs and start lookin
  25. NICE!!!!!!!!!!! VERY NICE!!!!!!!!!!!!! Mike Valdez told me about this F-4S and said the Slotted Stabs were remarkable. I am here to say they as well as the rest of this model is REMARKABLE! Crisp and well put together. Like to know how you did those stabs if you'd like to elaborate! Wish I'd been in Phoenix for this one... Would have loved to see this in person and snap a few shots. I'd still like to photograph it! Happy New Year! Larry McCarley
