  1. Great work, I love these sort of projects! Keep up the great work Cheers Anthony
  2. Thanks for the feedback guys, and thanks for looking up Bobs plane RCAFFAN....saved me a job! I remember once Bob telling me that whilst flying a 487 Mosquito low level thru some valleys an AA battery opened up on him. He said that "In an instant I kicked the rudder and gave a squeeze on the trigger, I am unsure what really happened, but he stopped shooting at me which was my intent!...Those 20mm can really pack a punch" A snippet on Op Jerico was that he was sure they were going to can the mission due to the weather conditions and he remembered the utter sadness when he heard Pickard went d
  3. Great news Jen. Bob Fowler was a good friend of mine whom I visited regularly. He flew on that raid with 487 in EG-H or J (I will have to look up my notes) I cant remember off the top of my head. Such a gentleman and full of great stories flying with 487. He has a collection of photographs packed deeply away and over all the years we never actually got to find and go through them together before he passed away. I will definitely build Bobs bird with the Tamiya kit, he showed me in the pics which hole it was he put in the wall! I miss him, all I have left to remember him are nice memories
  4. Michael, this is going to be another amazing build from you! I cant wait to see more
  5. I can vouch for the Tamiya paddle blades being correct as it was me that measured them up for Mr Tamiya. I measured, re-measured and took contour and 'twist' details for them and we even dispelled a dia issue/myth regarding the blade. Cant vouch for HK but can with Tamiya HTH Cheers Anthony
  6. Thanks guys Just at the moment I have a friend making me up some teeny tiny cockpit stenciling and placards. Once I get them and on the centre consul I will post pics. Cheers guys Anthony
  7. Thanks guys, LD I struggle to get a nice sharp edge as well, without getting buildup on the tape for me is tough. What I tend to do is spray most of the area to a solid colour then (spraying very slightly away from the tape edge) is very lightly build up with extra thinned colour. I found you don't need to get the same density of colour (I know is sounds strange) and it looks slightly odd before you remove the masking tape as you see a very slight variation in tone. However when you remove the tape.....the slight variation disappears as the colour next to it gives such a contrast. I don't k
  8. Hi Ray, thanks mate, its great to be back around here, although most days I pop into see what you helicopter boys are up to!
  9. This one is for Oliver....yes there is still life left in this project!! Just sprayed yesterday, have to mask off the hub to spray titanium and the leading edge strip... Edit: That white is hard to photograph with my limited skills!
  10. Thanks for the info on how that B35 ended up looking like that. Ouch! I didn't realise they actually cut the nose right off! Oh dear. Where did the nose section end up? I hope they saved it. Big Daddy, I had a look through my drawings, I have fin and rib drawings but they are poor also, I suspect we have the same ones. I do however know where there is a fin in need of repair. I am unsure if the chap will part with it, but I will ask in about 2-3 weeks if that is ok? Do you have any spares yourselves? I am heading away for a few days to go to Classic Fighters Airshow. But we can chat
  11. Hey Scoob Sorry for the late reply. Yes I have met Glyn many times, he is a thoroughly nice guy and I have the utmost respect for him like all Kiwi aviation enthusiasts do. He has helped me out with my own Auster T7 rebuild and even had great advice with woodwork and fabric. You are right indeed we live in a small world and I have come across many characters along the way. So I am glad to hear our Kiwi reputation is the same the world over! Big Daddy, we were all in amazement when your fuse came off the mould. I got to have a good look all over it many times before she left our shores. Ho
  12. I agree with everyone here in both respects, a Mossie would look just plain wrong covered in rivets, but it IS your model, so go for gold if you like artistic flair. There might be another way around this for you. I have been very involved and around Mosquito's for the past 35yrs odd and one thing that is apparent is that original build Mosquito aircraft are not as smooth as you might expect. Take a look at the FB version for instance around the nose section fwd of the leading edge, you can often see the ply strips curving up to the nose cap, the fabric tapes are thick and heavy, see imag
  13. Hey Ernest, you absolutely should post your NK here!! We can all benefit form seeing your great workmanship. By the way.......Love your humor!! Something us Kiwi's can relate to! Cheers Anthony
  14. Hey Ernest, I let Niek know about your project on LSP and sent him a link to your awesome build. Between the 2 of you, you are both putting me to shame! Hope you guys can compare notes and help me out get mine finished! Cheers guys Anthony
  15. Awesome to see you have loaded your project on here!!!! Sorry for the late reply and not noticing this. Been a bit frustrated at my own one and not modelling much. Looking forward to watching you work on this one. Cheers Anthony
  16. Thanks guys! Mike & Oliver I will try and take a pic on the weekend. Things have been a little busy here as I am going on holiday with my Wife, son and friends to Rarotonga on Monday and wont have internet connection I know...sad. I am gonna have internet modelling withdrawls!!!! I am sure I can track an internet café down! To be honest I haven't felt like looking at it after that. I had a friend over and he looked at it and said it was brilliant, don't know whether he was just saying that to make me feel better, but it dosent look too bad after sulking about it for a week! Cheers
  17. Haha, trust you Oliver.....cant sneak one past you! Well, you have heard the saying to STOP before you wreck something.... I decided that before I take the photo's I would paint it and show you guys how good it all came out so I could do a REALLY good update. Well, It started out ok, then went from bad to worse!!! Belynda kept telling me, put it down Anthony and look at it again tomorrow, but me being me and being somewhat pigheaded decided that I could 'sort it'. You know, she was right, darn it! I hate it when that happens. So now I gotta try and paintstrip this blasted centre consu
  18. Will take some pics later today to show progress. Now, the reason I posted without pics is because I have just used 2 products that I have never used before and was really happy with the results. Firstly I used Microscale Metal Foil Adhesive and it did a fantastic job giving you a little 'adjustment' time whilst working with the photoetch. The second product I used was Mr Metal Primer. This is another from their stable of awesome products(I use Mr Color for practically all my painting). This stuff is like water and I brushed it over my metal parts, once dry you could barely tell it had bee
  19. There is nothing like not being happy with something, every time you look at it, all it does is bug you. Looking forward to seeing how this comes out with the framework. Cheers Anthony
  20. Chuck this is a hugely informative and inspiring build. I have l learnt a lot and after you sprayed those beautiful winders(I have some of those and the resin AGM-65's for my RNZAF Skyhawk) I decided to have a go at spraying my tailrotor on my 32nd BK-117 rework using some of your suggestions etc with the metal colour. Great stuff and thank you very much! Cheers Anthony
  21. That is one AWESOME 212, it just looks so mean with all those extra bits on........waaaay cool!
  22. Wow nice work Floyd Love how you have made that interior look so good, busy but not cluttered. Especially like the ratchet handle and those bags I reckon would look great in my BK! Do you know where I can get photoetch straps with latches etc?? Masterful work as always Cheers Anthony
  23. Yes possibly(I know that dosent make sense) I often paint the edge dk grey or black, depending on the model. You don't want to replace the internal reflection with another non matching colour. Experiment and trial is the key. Hope that helps a little, sorry if it dosent Cheers Anthony
  24. Yep, I agree with everyone else's comments! Well done mate, you put in the hard yards and have an awesome model to show for it. One thing that may help for future builds is that I find that painting the very edge of the canopies the appropriate colour (being careful not to get it on the outside) takes away the reflection you can sometimes see after it is glued, and hides the gluing process. This is in no way a criticism, you have an awesome model and one I would be proud to have in my cabinet. It is just little tricks like this and what Oliver said that I wished someone had told me in the
  25. Yep, I think you fit in the awesome category with Oliver and Eastern along with a few others here. Still not convinced guys like you are actually human, but 3D printed robot humans or something. Awesome work mate!
