  1. CH-53D at Pearl Harbor Aviation Museum, HI.
  2. Afghanistan sandbox 2009. These aren't as clear as the originals, will try to figure out whats up with that.
  3. As a large helo guy, I'm diggin' these pics. The complexity of these beasts made me appreciate the simpler layout of my CH-47s. Still, when those guys set up camp next door in the sandbox, there was a good-hearted exchange of information & stories between the crews and the civilian contractors. I'm going to go through my files from back and see whats good enough to share.
  4. Hello all. After a few years of trying, I finally made it to Honolulu to see the sites. Pearl Harbor and the surrounding museums were visited day one. I also took several gigs worth of photographs for all the displays, indoors and out, so if you see something that you would like me to post the hi-res pics I took, just let me know. Part 1 : Part 2 : Part 3 :
  5. Be wary of the upcoming Buzz Lightyear movie, Fulcrum. It’s being banned over here in the sandbox because it’s got a scene with two ladies kissing. I hear what you guys are saying. I’d also like to add that watching documentaries can be just as entertaining for some of us. I just spent 4 hours straight watching a documentary of the Three Mile Island nuclear power plant accident. Time well spent for me, just that kind of guy.
  6. I know I'm in the teeny, tiny minority, but this movie is a hard pass for me. I just can't suspend my belief enough when it comes to the hollywood treatment of all aspects aviation in general. Instead, I'm going to go with this: Like a great many of you, I'm a history buff, so I'm going to spend the rest of the summer reading this really thick book on the true history of the program. If anyone is interested in the author being interviewed, its on YouTube and on the podcast channel:
  7. I just flew on a MAX 8 for the first time back in April on a long holiday weekend trip from Dubai to Tbilisi, Georgia. I did notice the mood lighting, but its almost to be expected now. I was genuinely surprised at how large and how far forward & high the engines are mounted. I'd only seen photos and tv shows about the whole MCAS issue to this point. All the low cost carriers operate out of Terminal 2 at DXB, and its all remote stands, so you get to see a lot more of the aircraft as you get off the bus, and go up the stairs.
  8. The "most extended" configuration happens during the roll-out portion of a runway landing. The flaps/slats are already fully extended, the engine nozzles & airbrake panels would be fully open. The key feature here are the wing spoilers. Rather than try to explain, read para. 2.23.4.2 Ground-Roll Braking:
  9. Are the areas around the engine nozzle plain like the B & D, or is the scribing there for all the panels from the A model? I recall reading years and years ago that the molds were permanently changed, looking for a little confirmation.
  10. Hope everyone is doing decent. Ward Carroll has recent YT channel where he talks about his time in naval aviation, among other topics. Worth a subscription.

Intake shutters? Are you taking about the hinged panels on the outboard side of each intake? IIRC, those panels are only open at low speeds to increase the airflow into the intakes, so they would be closed . By Left vs Right, do you mean Left as in engines 1 &2, and Right as in engines 3 & 4? If so, yes they are symmetrical.
