  1. Like he has just said - looks really good - you are a dark horse! David. PSI have some pictures of the one in Hendon if that is of any use - picture quality not your standard of course!
  2. From what I have - including the "Manual" it appears the lamps were coloured and the lenses clear. This seemed to have been the norm for most RAF aircraft.
  3. I am fairly sure they were mainly the Brit. Interior green - but as has been said they did get dirty, so a bit of weathering will not go amiss! It is quite possible that some were black - or even bare metal - it was very much a case of using what was available. PS Sorry Willie - had not seen your post at the time I did mine
  4. Yes they did have oval windows and it did become the general practice to over paint them - in some cases replace them with a plate. I have seen quite late photos showing the windows in aircraft recently received from the factory and so it would appear that the idea of not installing them never really caought on! The over painting was not univerasl and so you really need to check with a photo of the aircraft you are modelling. I think the "Dambusters" ones were overpainted. David.
  5. You might like to contact desmojen on the britmodeler site - she does some bits and also works on the real thing!
  6. I have a set of the Royal Resin wheels and U/C bays and although have not incorproated them in the model yet they do look rather good. As to the "sag" in the covering well this varied greatly according to temperature and humidity etc - as well as age. Personally I would leave as is. It cannot at the most be more that a few mill out and at 1/48 scale it must be unnoticeable. David (another one)
  7. Thanks Ian - Metheringham is one of the most atmospheric old airfileds I know. David.
  8. Yes - thoroughly enjoyed myself - believe it or not our "Doc" is a very nice chap - good at organising GBs - builds a very creditable model and is house trained. David.
  9. Well I suppose as group builds go it was not that bad - tell me Doc has that grubby old Swordfish you entered sunk yet - amazing if it has not!!!! I trust you will not be putting your name in the Raffle - or if you insist on doing so then only once please - not 500 bits of paper with it on!!! I hear the neighbours clubbed together and bought your house in order to get you to move?
  10. Hi Phil - like that lot - but bearing in mind your amazing efforts with the fuselage may I ask how you are going to get the tanks control rods linkages bomb bays and all the other bits and bobs in those apparently solid wings???? :) Seriously though it is looking very good - have taken your advice about a rest very seriously (!!!!?) - actually we are getting a bit straight now so may feel able to concentrate on it soon - and if Tigger can help with the transparent bits there wil be no excuse!!! David.
  11. Have to admit - it is jolly good - can't think of anything else to say!!! David
  12. Yes we all knew who Bader was - but what about Colin Hodgkinson - lost his legs in a flying accident that was not his fault and the amputations were more significant than Baders- much shorter stumps. He also found he did not like flying afterwards but overcame it - got back in to the RAF with flying duties flew Hurricanes Spits (various Mks) became a POW - survived the War. Curious how although seemingly he coped with just as many problems but did not make the limelight!! Did not have a lot of money either - entered a prize fight at a fair (befoe losing his legs) - won but gave some of his wi
  13. I rather suspect this is like asking if anyone has experience of going over Niagra Falls in a barrel - you need to be a rather brave kind of person to attempt it!!! From my own experience with conventional sized vac form kits one of that size may be a bit easier but you will need - I guess- to put in quite a bit of "stiffeners" and spars etc. When faced with that kind of problem I find that following full size construction helps! Do let us see some pictures please - there are quite a few bods present who will have very useful hints and tips. David.
  14. I find with a lot of the PE that the 2 dimensional effect rather spoils things - I have just bought some Bobs buckles - they are tiny and three dimensional! On balance they seem better to me. David.
